Founding Fathers Tour of Philadelphia

Philadelphia, United States of America

Experience the best of US history with a modern twist on this small-group tour of Philadelphia. See where the Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, take a photo of the Liberty Bell, visit where past presidents like George Washington lived, and learn about William Penn, Pennsylvania's founder. You’ll discover the lively neighborhood culture of Old City as you pass art galleries and cafes, and top off your outing with a refreshing beverage at a local establishment. Numbers are limited to 12 for a personalized experience with an informative guide.

Start your 2-hour tour at the Philly Tour Hub, where you can view local art and photography inside the historic building. Outside, get a glimpse of the Betsy Ross House and hear stories from your guide about the birth of the American flag.

From here, weave through the charming back alleys of Old City and walk down Elfreth's Alley, one of the country’s oldest continuously occupied residential streets. In this vibrant neighborhood, you’ll pass trendy cafes, shops, art galleries and buildings featuring industrial architecture.

When you reach Christ Church, where the Founding Fathers once worshipped, head inside (if it is open and available) to learn about the birth of the Episcopal Church in America. Then stop at a local coffee shop, where you may grab a quick snack or beverage (own expense) and relax with your guide — it’s the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you have about Philadelphia history.

As your small-group tour continues through the Historic District, pass Franklin Court — the site of Ben Franklin's home — and view Independence Mall, the National Constitution Center and the US Mint. Follow your guide across the Mall and visit the President's House, once the home of George Washington and John Adams during Philadelphia’s tenure as the nation's capital.

See the Liberty Bell, with the possibility of going inside, crowds permitting, and continue to the Curtis Center, where you’ll enter (weekdays only) for a view of Maxfield Parrish's Dream Garden, a beautiful mosaic mural.

Then, it’s off to Washington Square for stories of William Penn, the state’s founder, and a possible visit to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Stroll Independence Mall - the three block section of Independence National Park and the must-see Independence Hall (tour does not enter Independence Hall), where the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were signed. As you walk, learn about Congress Hall, Old City Hall, the Philosophical Society, the Second Bank of the US and Carpenter's Hall.

Making your way back to the Old City neighborhood, end the tour at a local establishment. Enjoy a craft beer or refreshing non-alcoholic beverage before saying farewell to your guide or upgrade your tour and join us for a historical beer tour to learn about how beer and various pubs played a role in shaping our nation's history.

This tour wasn't exactly what I expected. It was less about constitutional history and historic sights and more about the neighborhood and Philadelphia history. All very interesting and some unexpected local treasures like the Tiffany mural, just not what I was expecting. The tour guide Nina was great, well informed but it was just a little too much walking for me.

Owen was a very nice guide and knew a lot about the history and the city. Weve enjoyed it very much.

Average. Not sure I was on the right tour as this tour was more about philadelphias neighbourhoods. I thought it was going to be more about the liberty side but tour didn't even take you through some of the historical sights only the liberty bell. Fortunately I did most of these prior to the tour as I had been prewarned.

It's a pretty interesting tour with a good, friendly and fun guide, but after a while of walking particularly in the cold it gets a bit much. I'd booked to be on the pub crawl straight after, but the tour overran and the guide struggled to get me there in time.

It is so cool to here not only the rest of the story about history, but very possibly the other story you never hear about!_br/_ Loved that about our guide, fascinating and fun...a worthy walk about town!

It was interesting. Enjoyed the places we did get to see. Would've loved to have gone inside Independence Hall. The other folks are the tour were great and fun to have shared a drink with. Thanks, Josh!

The guide was really good and knowledgeable, but we didn't care that much for the sights that we visited.

This was an excellent tour. Our guide, Josh Silver, was very knowledgeable and we visited several places that a casual observer would not even notice. He went out of his way to learn all our names and find a little about us. Made it very enjoyable and we are very glad we chose it. Highly recommend it.

This was the perfect tour for our family. All four kids, ages 17, 12, 10 and 6 thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an easy walking tour and our guide was engaging and funny. If you only have a day or two in Philly, do this tour.

This could have been a great tour. We seen several historical place. _br/_ Our guide talked before grouped together, talked mostly to one person, and we left tours and he did not notice until a block or more later. _br/_ If not much time go visit place instead of learning from outside what great places they are.

My family and I loved the walking tour of Historic Philadelphia. Our guide Josh was so informative. We learned so much about the birth of America. _br/_ I would highly recommend this tour. Next time we go to Philadelphia I would sign up for another one of their tours.

This was a perfect way to get an overview of the Old City and many historical high points. Our tour guide, Marianne, was knowledgeable and funny. Worth every penny-highly recommend!

This walking tour provides many highlights of the major historic sites. Tour guide Josh is extremely knowledgeable and provides many inside tips on local areas for dining. Small group size allows easy opportunity to see sites. If you would like to see Independence Hall or the Liberty Bell, tour these locations on your own. This tour does not allow much time at these sites.

This tour tries to cover too much in a short amount of time. The tour really should be an all day tour, with a break for lunch. The pace was too fast and you don't really get to see the sights.

Vince was very knowledgeable. We had already visited Independence Hall and Liberty Bell so we're pleasantly surprised to visit other spots. Loved Elberts St and more history of Benjamin Franklin. Loved visiting the old church where many of founding fathers prayed.

Unbelievably great tour because of the history and because of our guide. Kenny was the best guide I ever had, so much historical knowledge with incredible orator skills. It was like watching a proffesional actor. Would highly recommend. One of the best tours ever.

The tour was really amazing. Our guide Ben was very knowledgeable and took us to a lot of little out of the way places. I really liked the fact that our group was small so it allowed for flexibility: we had all seen the liberty bell so he showed us other cool places - awesome guide and tour.

It was a good overview of the city. Got to see the main attractions without too much hassle and as we had limited time, this meant that we got to experience a little of everything. The guide was great and really knowledgeable.

Our guide was great. Good pace, interesting facts, non-scripted, knowledgeable about all of Philly in general. The guide, Kevin?, Kyle?, Keith? was able to keep my 8y/o, 11y/o, and 13y/o interested and asking questions. Tour was of places I would not have thought to have seen but was happy with the diversification and their relevance to the build up to the Revolutionary War. I would only use this tour company again. The company's headquarters is great. They have coffee and tea, soft drinks and water for purchase, restrooms, lounge area with tv's. Foos Ball Table. Top Notch, great experience. Would not think of trying a different company.

Review by:   Jennifer C,    April 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The positives were that they let us change the day of the tour after reserved because of bad weather and the guide was friendly. These account for the two stars, not one._br/_ We didn't see everything listed in the description and there was tons of talking but no real content. I am used to learning a good amount of history of the city and relevant people on these type of tours. There was a lot of commentary about things that were not relevant to that and my group felt we learned very little. The guide seemed unsure of a several things I think I read.... or just not focused enough on the expected content of the tour. There were some interesting architecture bits thrown in, but most of the time we felt like we were left hanging for additional information. He pointed to Independence Hall and said that's where the two most important documents in the United States are and then moved on. I had to ask which documents he was referring to. Maybe he assumes people know history already and are looking for supplemental information?

Even though it was very, very cold outside, it was still sunny, so we showed up for the Founding Fathers walking tour. I am so glad we did! Our guide, Ben, was super knowledgeable about the area and through experience, able to navigate us around areas to see things without waiting in lines that are too long and would hog up valuable tour time. We didn't go inside every place, but we definitely saw loads of places. Frankly, the experience of Christ Church alone would've been worth the entire price of the tour, but only if it was our guide and the museum curator of the Church. They gave us so much information, I'm still thinking about it days later. Definitely sign up for this tour!

Ben, our tour guide, was fantastic and his enthusiasm was infectious! We loved walking around and getting a feel of old town. Elfreth's Alley was a treat! The only reason it was not a perfect tour was that we did not get to go inside Independence Hall or see the Liberty Bell close up. But in all fairness, the tour did not promise that. The beer with Ben and the other tour customers was also very special. Great time and money well spent!

Our tour guide, Joshua, was really informative and we really enjoyed our tour. My favorite part was Elfreth's Alley. Federalist Architecture is very rare. My husband loved Independence Hall. We took the tour on the first day and it helped us navigate the city for the remainder of our stay.
