Travel beyond the resorts and get to know the real Dominican Republic on this full-day tour from Puerto Plata. Admire gorgeous landscapes aboard a festive, safari-style vehicle and meet farmers, a Dominican family and schoolchildren, learning about the island's rich history and heritage along the way. Spot wildlife, boogie board on a beautiful beach and sip as much rum, beer and soda as you’d like during this all-inclusive tour. Don’t miss this fantastic glimpse into local culture, an experience ranked by TripAdvisor reviewers as Puerto Plata’s top activity.
Climb aboard a colorful, jungle-themed safari vehicle from your hotel in Puerto Plata. Throughout the tour, listen to engaging commentary from your knowledgeable guide about the island’s history since its independence from Haiti in 1844, and learn about the plant and wildlife you see along the way. Rumble aboard your vehicle through the backcountry and enjoy a fair amount of walking as well.
Head into the jungle to visit a coffee and chocolate plantation, where you’ll walk the grounds, talk to the farmers and learn how they harvest their products. Then meet a typical Dominican family at their home and learn about their lives while you drink freshly brewed coffee or bite into locally made chocolate.
Receive heartwarming insight into the local educational system when you visit a school. A teacher introduces you to a classroom of children; don’t be surprised by how much is communicated even if you may not speak the same language.
Depending on the weather, cool off by taking a dip in a freshwater river. When your stomach rumbles in hunger, dig into a delicious family-style Dominican lunch and taste freshly cut fruit and sugarcane.
Stop at a local rum shack to try, what else, but rum. Drink as much as rum, beer, soft drinks or water as you like during this all-inclusive tour. The shack also sells rum, cigars, coffee and other local products if you’d like to purchase some to take home as souvenirs or gifts.
Get a kick out of seeing wildlife like crocodiles, iguanas, turtles and more at a local ranch. Next, continue to a 15-mile (24-km) stretch of secluded beach where you can boogie board in the Caribbean. Or simply dig your toes in the sand and soak up the sun with a cocktail in hand.
After your rich day of culture, history, nature and beach time, you’ll be transported back to your hotel.
Was a great day. Mannie was wonderful, what we saw gave us an inside look at the people of the Dominican Republic. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming to us visiting them, be it the school or someone home. Would highly recommend you spend a day this way. Will have great memories for a long time.

Perfect! We were a party of two adults, two teens and a 12 year old. Everybody enjoyed it thoroughly. Our guide Junior was lovely and really looked after everybody. Very knowledgeable and we got to have a more authentic taste of the island - some history, geography, horticulture as well as swimming and body boarding. Lunch was delicious! Take some money to purchase local souvenirs which help the community. Highly recommended.

The tour was fine. We got to see a lot of things and our guide was great. I was expecting to see a lot of animals since it is called a Safari. We only saw some caged animals at lunch.

Best day of our vacation! My husband and I and our 12 yr old son were the last to be picked up at our hotel around 9:30am. Everyone on the bus was friendly and Manny spoke very good English. He even translated to French for one couple. First stop is a typical Dominican house in the countryside, very interesting and we ate fresh fruit and learned about all kinds of plants. Then we went to a school that is supported by Outback Safari - bring school supplies, but no candy or money! We had a fabulous lunch chicken wings and rice and beans at a crocodile farm, then went boogie boarding in the ocean. If you don't want to swim, you can get a massage for free on the beach, but the boogie boarders had a blast! Oh yeah, unlimited beer and rum the whole day, don't forget to drink water too! A must see, and ask for Manny!_br/_

I would recommend this tour to EVERYONE who is interested in seeing real Dominican Republic sites. The company does great things for the schools in the rural areas of the city and souvenirs you buy help support. It rained so hard the day of our tour and I've never had more fun! Julien was the best.
