Really enjoyed this tour!! The horse farm is family run and everyone is so nice. The horses are very well taken care of and well trained to the extent that absolutely no experience on a horse is required for the tour. The view along the way was spectacular and there was tea and coffee waiting for us on our return. The blue lagoon, once in the water was lovely, however the changing room and shower area were extremely hectic. I had taken my own towel to avoid the expense of renting one, but at some point it got stolen and I had to drip dry which was...unpleasant. But yeah, cannot blame the establishment for something like that. It could happen anywhere.

Grayline provided incorrect information about the tour and the drivers were unfriendly and not helpful. The horseback riding was 2 hours, not 1. Because of down time after the horseback riding, the farm took us back to the Grayline terminal. Had we been dropped off 20 minutes earlier, we would have gained another hour at the Blue Lagoon. Instead we had to wait in the terminal for 45 minutes. Additionally they shuttle mass amounts of people in different directions. The transportation was totally inefficient which really affected our tour experience. We started at 12:30 p.m., two hours of horseback riding, and didn't get to the Blue Lagoon until 5:45 p.m. The last shuttle back is at 9 p.m. and because we had 9 p.m. dinner reservations, we had to leave at 8 p.m. For a 500 tour for two people, we had a lot higher expectations. The horse farm itself was terrific, the Blue Lagoon wonderful, but terrible experience with Grayline and their drivers.

Amazing riding this wonderful icelandic horses. 2 hour trek, clothes provided to keep you warm. Trekking through streams of ice, really comfortable, well behaved horses and great guides.

The staff was great! I forgot to get gloves when we were putting on the riding equipment, and when I was waiting to get on the horse one of the staff noticed this and brought me out some.

It was our last day in Reykjavik. It is now illegal for tour buses to pick up or drop off at downtown hotels, but the nearest bus stop was only 2 blocks away, in front of city hall. We were picked up from this location and brought to the bus terminal where we picked up the van to the horseback riding facility. We were offered water-proof pants, jackets, boots and required helmet. Please note, if you have your own waterproof pants and jacket and boots my waterproof hiking boots were perfect you can use your own. One person brought her own helmet, but when I read that they require you to use their equipment, I didn't bring mine. It wasn't true, you CAN use your own horse-riding helmet if you have one. They matched everyone to their horse, helped you mount and off you went. There was no instruction to start, but the people who had never ridden before seemed to have no trouble. The horses know their job. My horse did not like puddles and tried to evade them which was no big deal but made me a bit nervous when we had steep drop off on side of trail. Again, she knew the drill and was very sure footed. The horses' feet have a very narrow base of support, so they are perfect for narrow trails. I loved the tolt. The horses' necks swing side to side as they tolt, which is so interesting. Half-way through the ride, we dismounted and took a break at a beautiful viewpoint. There was a waterfall which I didn't see. I had just completed a tour where we saw about 20 waterfalls and I just didn't feel like seeing one more. Our tour guide, Oren, was charming. We did the tolt almost the entire way back, but people who had never ridden were free to walk, which they did. We just waited for them to catch up periodically. There was an advanced group which also tolted all the way back. I chose not to do that because I wanted the option of walking and didn't want to hold up anyone. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. At the end, we were taken back to the bus terminal and got the bus to the Blue Lagoon. We wished we had had more time to spend there. We spent about an hour in the water, opted for the package that included an extra mask and towels. Had we not had to get back for a group dinner, we would have spent at least a couple of hours there. I am only 5' tall, and there were some areas in the pool where I had to hold onto my daughter's shoulder to not be in over my head. I saw later, that they had floaties for free. Had I known, I would have used them. The return bus took us directly to the bus stop close to our hotel. They dropped everyone off similarly. Traffic during rush hour is crazy. Be prepared. I see that some people opt to go to the Blue Lagoon on their way from the airport upon arrival. I have to say, I was glad I was rested before going, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I had just spent a sleepless night on a plane. If you travel well, it's probably a nice option. If you don't, do it later in your trip. The Blue Lagoon is between the airport and Reykjavik, so geographically, it might make sense.

Awesome awesome awesome !!! Riding the Icelandic horses was a dream one true..beautiful scenery, waterfalls and tolting was soooo much fun. Blue Lagoon is almost indescribable how magical it is, especially on a misty day at dusk (and not too crowded), mud mask and cocktail upgrade was totally worth it

The horse riding was wonderful, so glad we did it. I was a bit confused as to the timing of the excursions when i booked the trip. The Pickup time was 12:30. The farm was outside the city. By the time we got our gear on, finished the ride, got the gear off, and got back to reykjavik, it was 4:10. Then we would have had to wait until 5 PM to get a bus to the Blue Lagoon, which would have arrived there close to 6. We had dinner reservations for a party at 7, so there was no way we could go to the Blue Lagoon, and we lost out on half of the trip we paid for. If the itinerary would have been more specific, we would not have booked it. I assumed the horseriding was a stop on the way to the Blue Lagoon, and we'd have plenty of time to get back on a 6pm bus.

Amazing! This excursion far exceeded my expectations! The Viking horses were well taken care of and the ride was so scenic and long .... close to two hours. Then off to the Blue Lagoon .... upgrade to the Premium package to get a towel and Algae face mask. We could see why this was one of the Wonders of the World!

Horses were wonderful. But make sure you honestly discuss riding ability with the guides. Not all lope-y pace, you get some really trotting and fast riding up and down hills. Transport was very easy and well done. Blue lagoon was fun. Worth it to upgrade for towel and drink.

We really enjoyed our Blue Lagoon and Horse Back Riding experience!! The family who owned the horse farm was absolutely delightful and made sure we had a wonderful experience! The horses were so beautiful! I highly recommend this combination tour. This was one of our favorite experiences in Iceland. I have two teenage kids and they ranked this combination tour in their top experiences.

Wonderful day, I highly recommend doing this. So much fun and the guides were very careful watching to make sure everyone was OK. You stop after 30 minutes to view a beautiful waterfsll.

While the horse riding was wonderful the horses are sassy and independent spirits and the Blue Lagoon is a wonderful place to unwind I highly recommend the onsite restaurant, the Lava Restaurant, the tour did not go off without a hitch. Although the tour was confirmed and re-confirmed prior to arrival, Greyline Tours local tour provider still had us set to tour on the wrong day, we almost missed our tour altogether. They did however, jump through all hoops to make the tour happen for us on our last day in Iceland. For this I was thankful.

Review by:   Andrew A,    April 2017 3 star review of Viking Horse-Riding Tour and Blue Lagoon from Reykjavik - worth doing.
The trip using the viking horses followed by the blue lagoon was very enjoyable. A ride on the local horses in spectacular scenery is truly awe inspiring and the horses seemed to know how to react to the novices on the trip. The blue lagoon was also a great fun tourist location and was the center of a great many tourist trips in Iceland. _br/_ However, there were some very negative items on this trip as well. The pickup was at 930 and we were down in the hotel lobby 30 minutes prior to the time. The travel documents did not indicate that they do not come into the hotel lobby as did all my other trip bus supervisors did on our other trips and there was not indication as to what bus was to pick us up from inside the hotel. As a result 6 people in our party were left stranded without transportation. We finally arranged with the gray line that we would take taxis to the Laxnes horse farm at the cost of 2 X 65. Fortunately this worked out, but was very costly and could easily been avoided if they had taken the trouble as did all the other tours we were on to check in the hotel lobby for our party. The Gray line also is a gigantic bureaucracy and these two tours were not well coordinated and relied on the participants to make the connections.
