Viking Horse Ride and Gulfoss and Geysir Express Tour from Reykjavik

Viking Horse Ride and Gulfoss and Geysir Express Tour from Reykjavik

Reykjavik, Iceland

For a full-day experience with a difference, ride a Viking horse in the morning then spend the afternoon touring Gulfoss, Geysir and other Icelandic natural phenomena. It's a nature-lover's dream, and the best way to make the most of your visit to Reykjavik.

The Icelandic horse breed has remained virtually unchanged since the Vikings brought them to Iceland in the 9th century. These sure-footed, docile and good-natured animals are ideal for beginners and experienced riders alike. The one-hour riding tour takes you through the outskirts of the capital.

In the afternoon, your day's activities continue with the Gulfoss and Geysir Express half-day tour, to see Iceland's best known historical sites and natural phenomena. The tour begins with a visit to Thingvellir, a geologically unique place where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. The Icelandic parliament Alpingi was established here in 930, and in 2004 Thingvellir was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List.

You will also see the majestic and beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, the incredible spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur. The tour then returns to the capital.

The viking horse ride was so much fun!! The horses are well trained and the staff is very friendly. Really made me feel like a local to go horseback riding through the nearby roads, trails, and river.

One of a kind experience! Went in Jan and it was so cool! The people at the farm were really nice and the animals were treated very well. This is for sure one of our tours we won't forget. Riding in the snow on these beautiful horses was great. Nice and warm with the gear they provided. I would love to come back and do it again.

I am rating the horse riding experience a 5 star event. And the half day golden circle only a 3 star. I would recommend the horse riding experience to everyone as it allowed new and more experienced riders a chance to shine. The guides and horses were top of the line. _br/_ The golden circle half day was long, boring, too much time at each stop and guide was not very good. This was with Gray Line.

The stable and horseback ride was wonderful, the tour of the golden circle was packed full of waterfalls, geysers, and amazing landscapes.

The horse part isn't that great, even though the people at the farm were very nice, the experience could be improved. You get dropped off with no instructions on what's happening, paired up with a horse that they deem fitting, and off you go with the herd. No basic instructions/tips on how to properly ride, no information about the horses and what makes them special. The ride itself was nice but again, you're in a big group 30-ish and following the leader in a single file line. The guides don't do any talking during the ride. You get off a little more than halfway through the ride, they don't tell you why, I assume to give the horses a break. The people and horses were just standing there with nothing to do. My horse tried to eat some snow, it would have been nice to have a snack to feed them. My horse also didn't seem to be too happy, but I'm no expert so maybe my assessment is incorrect.

Me and my 2 girls deeply loved this experience. The Icelandic horses are among the sweetest animals I ever met, they were very docile and so easy to ride! I adapted very quickly to the Icelandic riding style and loved every second of my ride. My 7 years old and my 10 years old loved it too down to their hearts. The farmers felt true local people as well as the food and their simplicity transmitted a true warmth to my soul which I discovered in that moment was longing for a real escape from a crazy tarmac and bricks world. I didn't mind the stinging cold and rain a bit. My young daughter played for hours with the farmers' dog at was bringing back a tiny stone to her to be thrown over and over again._br/_ The afternoon geysir tour has also been nice and very interesting from a geological point of view.

The horses and the farm were very fun and friendly! We did this tour in the winter, which meant dark was falling middle of the bus tour and by the time we reached Strokkur it was completely dark.

The actual tour itself is nice because it combines all key points to see in Reykjavik. Gulfoss is HUGE and beautiful! The viking horse-ride was good until my horse slipped on the ice and I fell really hard on the ground! I was disappointed in how the company handled the situation. It was one of my fellow tour travelers who caught the horse. The trail leaders who were in charge did not show any concern for me. They just made me get back on the horse. I could barley walk and I was bruised all down my leg. I finally made it back to the stable.

This tour was really good. The horses were lovely and gentle so my 8 yr old and I who are complete beginners had no trouble at all riding them. Even though it was an express tour of the Golden Circle we still got to see lots. Darren our guide was funny and informative. Highly recommend this tour!

The Golden Circle tour was amazing. We had a great time horseback riding for the most part. We were part of a HUGE group 30 people which made it feel like you were being herded at times more than on a trail ride. My husband's horse also fell while trotting and he was completely knocked off the horse. Luckily he didn't suffer any injuries except for some soreness, but after the ride the employees didn't even mention it or ask him how he was doing, which we found a little unbelievable. The scenery during the ride was gorgeous though and about halfway through you get a chance to get off the horses and take some pictures. The ride then splits off into two groups- a slower group and a faster group for experienced riders or those who want to go faster trotting the entire way back.

The Golden Circle tour was great and something that you should definitely do, but the highlight of our Viator trip was our visit to the Laxnes Horse Farm. Pori and Heida the owners were wonderful and took care of us like we were family. The Icelandic horses were very well-behaved and a joy to ride. My group had people that ranged from experienced riders to people who had never ridden before and we all felt comfortable with the horse choices that were made for us. Besides getting to ride the most adorable horses in the world, we were also treated to a ride through the beautiful Icelandic countryside. I would absolutely recommend this trip in whatever tour combination you are considering. I am definitely coming back to Laxnes on my next trip to Iceland!

Incredible day. The horseback riding was fantastic with incredible scenery. We loved the lunch in between activities of soup, warm breads and cake and coffee (available for a very reasonable fee). Our afternoon tour was excellent led by an outstanding tour guide. Highly recommended !!

Amazing! The staff was friendly, the horses were friendly, the scenery was BEAUTIFUL! I highly recommend this! One note on the soup and bread for purchase, bread is good but the soup is just a broth (no veggies or meat). Not the best option for food, but the only one they offer so pack a lunch.

We enjoyed the horse riding. The food at the end was delicious and providing overalls for the ride to keep warm and protect clothing. It was very well organised. We throughly enjoyed the sites of the tour in the afternoon, however the commentary was tedious and some of the people on the bus were obnoxious, loud and offensive to the point that being on the bus was unpleasant and made the day disappointing. The tour guide should have addressed this behaviour early rather than leave it to the customers to work out.

We had a group of 7 riders. We all enjoyed this tour tremendously. The family-owned and operated horse farm was gracious in their service, and took us on a spectacular horse ride through the country side. We crossed over small rivers, and the horses were the best!! We enjoyed an amazing soup and bread lunch afterwards. The soup was made from scratch by the owner and was some of the best vegetable soup we have ever had. The whole experience was magical!

Fantastic experience for someone who has very little experience. Cannot fault anything. The team were so welcoming and the horses were so placid. The scenery was amazing and I was as warm as toast in the all in one suits provided. This was the highlight of my trip, highly recommended.

This tour was the highlight of our time in Iceland. It is a very long day but everything is amazing. The viking horse riding was our favourite part. The horses are so cute and friendly and fun to ride. I am an experienced rider but my friend is not so it is great for all experience levels. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone!

Everybody on this tour was so nice! Riding the horses was easily my favorite experience in Iceland. We had a little over an hour after the horses and before the Geysir tour, and the lady at the ranch was so kind making sure we all stayed nice and warm. For a small price, soup and bread was provided while we waited. The Golden circle area was gorgeous as well - a completely different landscape.

Sure, you can ride a horse anywhere, but there is something special about the Icelandic horse. I am so glad that I picked this tour! The family that runs the farm is outstanding and the location is stunning. I picked a fast horse and he galloped through the trails. It was one of the most thrilling things that I have done in a while. I will say, wear clothes that you really don't mind getting dirty. I was covered in mud after I got back. I stayed in a hostel in Reykjavik and had a hard time finding a place to do laundry. It was well worth it, though!

The horseback riding was a dream come true! The Viking horses are so friendly and lovable! The leads were so helpful. The countryside beautiful. The trip included lunch at the ranch. The food: soup, bread, and dessert are all homemade and delicious. We were promptly picked up by a coach bus and proceeded to the second half of the day to Gulfoss and Geyser. The tour guide gave us the history, culture and geological perspectives of the areas we visited. The entire 10 hour day was excellent from start to finish.

Fabulous experience, the owners of the horse farm are so welcoming and helpful. We had a lovely experience and we would definitely do it all again. _br/_ The Gulfoss and Geysir was wonderful, and we were given more than enough time to view them both. The driver was very knowledgeable about the area and the sights. This was one of our favourite tours of the holiday!

Loved riding the viking horses. The horses were good and the ride, fun. You could imagine yourself in the old days where horses were the sole mode of transportation. I wish the ladies leading the ride would have talked more or shared some stories, but the ride itself was good. _br/_ I had a problem with this tour with my hotel pick up. The ride never showed and the operator said it was my fault for not being in front of my housing. BUT, I stood in the cold in front of my building for more than 30 minutes and no one ever came. So I had to split up my tour and do the golden circle in the afternoon and the horses the next day. Fortunately, I had room in my schedule to accommodate this change, but I was not happy. Once I saw how close I was to the bus terminal, I cancelled all my pick ups and walked to the location. The drivers for the pick up were not very reliable. They should inform you when your location is close so you can avoid the hassle of hoping you will get picked up. The actual tour operators were good.

Great trip through grayline tours. Saw the geysir and gullfoss after visiting laxnes farms for the riding tour with about 2 hrs on the horse. We had a lovely time. Lunch of soup and friesh bread is available for purchase at laxnes. There is some down time. Wish it included fridheimar greenhouse

Excellent, much better than the tame old pony trekking we do at home. Great scenery, good length of trek and the horse responded as a horse should. Fantastic family ran ranch, a joy to meet them. GO you know you want to :- .

My wife and I had a remarkable experience, the horse are so adorable just to look at and to pat around. And that was just the icing on the cake, the rides are both thrilling and exciting. It was totally out of our expectation. The horse riding alone makes this tour worth it but that wasn't all, we still has Gulfoss and Geysirs to experience. Absolutely awesome!
