Hill Country Magic Tour

San Antonio, United States of America

The tour begins in Stonewall, Texas where you will visit the LBJ Ranch located on the Pedernales River. Here, you will see the "Texas White House" and hear all the tales of one of Texas favorite sons, Lyndon Baines Johnson, 36th President of the United States, and former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson. Trace the history of the Johnson family in the area, beginning with the establishment of the ranch in the 1860's. You will also see several displays explaining life in the Hill Country and the cattle business. There's even a chuckwagon and longhorn cattle. The park exhibits two video presentations - one about the Johnson Administration and the other concerning Mrs. Johnson's life and achievements.
In addition to museum exhibits, you will see:

  • A working cattle ranch, true to how it existed in the 1860's.
  • A reconstruction of his birthplace that President Johnson personally oversaw.
  • The ranch is also the site of the former President's final resting place.
  • In the spring, behold the beauty of Texas wildflowers, a longtime project of Mrs. Johnson's.

Come along and enjoy the culture, beauty and history of this unique area. The exhibits and history of the ranch give visitors a thorough look at the life of an American president.

The tour continues along scenic Hill Country backroads to the charming German community of Fredericksburg, once the edge of the frontier and home to brave German pioneers, beginning in the mid-1800's. Lunch is on your own at one of the many fine restaurants in Fredericksburg, many of which feature authentic German culinary specialties. You will have the opportunity to enjoy shopping and browsing in the quaint antique shops and gift boutiques along the Hauptstrasse (Main Street). There will be time to explore the Admiral Nimitz Museum and Historic Center, as well as the History Walk of the Pacific War and the Japanese Garden of Peace.

The actual tour of the LBJ Ranch was very good but I rate it only a three because we were hoping to get some information or stories from the driver but he didn't say a word on the entire drive to and from the ranch. The actual date that we went was Feb 20 because they didn't have enough people to go on the 19th.

We were fortunate Joanne and Tish to have our tour guide, jim mcduffie, as our personal tour guide with only two of us on tour. Jim was very informative and knowledgable, as well as personable. We started out in Fredericksburg and visited the war museum and saw the sights and then went to the LBJ Ranch......very interesting. We would recommend this tour and any future tourists will be lucky to have Jim as their tour guide._br/_ Thank you

We enjoyed our tour, the LBJ ranch and history is very interesting. Fredericksburg is a neat town, has good food and shopping opportunities. Our stop at the wildflower seed farm and also the Peach Haus were nice treats. Perry, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and accommodating. This tour is well worth the money!

Edward was the guide and he knows his subject. We went where he said we would and he was most courteous to all, answered all the questions, is an excellent driver it was a great time of year to go to the hill country and LBJ's home.

Excellent trip and tour...but my Viator price included admission to Nemitz museum but tour guide said that was a mis print.

Tour was fine - Fredricksburg was a yawn, but we enjoyed the LBJ ranch. It was annoying to have to wait in a hot line for 30 minutes after being picked up to get tickets for the tour, especially since we already had e-vouchers. Interface between Viator and local tour company needs to be improved.

We enjoyed this tour very much. First stop was the LBJ ranch. The bus driver drove us around the property and gave us a tour. We stopped at the family cemetery and also to view the Air Force Half of One, as they called it. The drive was nice and unlike other reviews I've read, we did drive through the small towns a good deal of the time. Photos are allowed inside the ranch, which was nice. On to Fredericksburg. We made a huge mistake by having lunch at Wheelers, which the driver recommended. I believe his recommendation was about saving time and not about the food. If you want to shop, go to Wheelers and be in and out in a decent amount of time. If not, try any restaurant with a German name and eat authentic. I wish we would have. They had some nice stores and I did make a purchase, but not enough time to see the museum.

Wonderful trip, LBJ ranch was unbelievable, same as I was when the President used it as the White house in the 60s, Government plane their to observe, a lot of history and plenty of beautiful spacious views, including animals being a working ranch. Tour in the house was done so well different tour guide in each part of the house. Trip to FREDERICKSBURG charming town dozens of shops and restaurant and the Nimitz and world war II museum. Driver was very knowledgeable.

This was an excellent day trip with a very knowledgeable and funny guide. We are Canadian but we enjoyed the visit to the LBJ ranch very much. The Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg was just amazing but we had less than 2 hours, which is not nearly enough time. All in all, it was a great day.

Had a great time, Tour was nice, bus was clean, driver informative. LBJ ranch was a blast from the past, learned things I did not know. Ate fabulous homemade German food at Der Lindenbaum in Fredericksburg, the potato salad and sauerkraut were especially delightful. The National Museum of the Pacific War was hands down one of the best museums I have visited in a long time. My only complaint was that there were no benches to sit and contemplate the displays. We spend 1.5 hrs there and wished we had another hour.

FRDERICKSBURG IS NOT A TOWN BUT A TOURIST STRIP WITH A HIGH VOLUME 8 LANE STREET. MIOST OVERRATED "TOWN" IN TEXAS. ALTHOUGH THIS TRIP WAS THRU HILL COUNTRY THE FREEWAYS WERE TAKEN INSTEAD OF THE COUNTRY ROADS WICH IS OF COURSE DISAPOINTING. THIS TRIP INCLUDES THE OPTION OF GOING TO THE JOHNSON RANCH OR A WINE TOUR. WHY NOT DO BOTH? THIS TRIP WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER IF IT WAS EXPANDED TO ABOUT 12 HOURS AND INCLUDED A DRIVE ON COUNTRY ROADS THRU HILL COUNTRY, A VIST TO A CAVE SUCH AS NATURAL CAVERNS CAVE, AND A VISIT AND IDEALLY A CONCERT AT NEARBY LUCKENBACK TEXAS WHICH IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST, NO LONGER OFERRED ON THE TRIP. THIS IS A TRIP WORTH DOING BUT IT COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER.

LBJ's ranch was a 30minute tour and it took almost 2 hours to get there. Not worth the trouble. Even the flowers were a disapointment.
