Winery Day Trip to Texas Hill Country from San Antonio

San Antonio, United States of America

Get the most out of your stay in San Antonio with a day trip to Texas’ wine region, Texas Hill Country. Stop in the quaint German town of Fredericksburg to browse local shops and antique stores before visiting three wineries to taste some excellent wines and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You’ll also take guided tours of the wineries, depending on availability, and enjoy commentary from your friendly guide. Round-trip hotel transportation by air-conditioned vehicle is included.

You’ll be picked up from your San Antonio hotel or the Alamo in the morning and taken to Texas Hill Country, located about 70 miles (113 km) away. This region in central Texas features tall, rugged hills, and has emerged as the center of the Texas wine industry, with more than 30 unique and beautiful wineries scattered throughout the scenic area.

Stop in the charming German town of Fredericksburg and take a stroll down Main Street. Browse the local shops and antique stores and have lunch at a nearby café or restaurant (own expense).

You’ll then take a short drive to two different wineries, where you’ll sample several fine wines and learn about the wine-making process. Try Texas-style wines and a several grape varietals including sangiovese, viognier, tempranillo and syrah.

Depending on availability, you’ll also tour the wineries. After your tour, relax on the drive back to your San Antonio hotel.

I highly recommend this tour. We were a group of four, and we had a blast. Our scheduled driver called in ill, so Edward, the owner of the company, took care of our tour personally. He was extremely knowledgeable of San Antonio history. The two wineries were very nice, but we got through them quickly. Fortunately, Edward wasn't worried about time and took us to a third winery which was our fave of the three even though they didn't make their own wine. The town of Fredericksburg is very quaint, the stores were full of friendly folk, and we had a great time. If you're travelling to San Antonio, I suggest you book this tour.

Disappointing. We only stopped at 2 wineries. We enjoyed Tuscany of Texas the second one was awful it was mins from the 1st. The tour combined ours with people doing LBJ hill country tour. Which left us on the Main St. of fredricksburg for almost 3 hours. Waste of time.

The guide was great! The company seemed a little disorganized, though. The night before the trip, they weren't sure if they were even going to do it the next day, even though I made the reservation weeks before.

Skip this! Very disappointed with this tour! They drop you in a town where nothing opens for almost a hour. It was 20 degrees the day we went. Each wine stop is a tasting not a tour. And the "tour guide" was a driver. Very disappointed in this tour

We had a great day! Fun wineries, beautiful area to explore. Would recommend this excursion to anyone who loves wineries and quaint areas. We would take this excursion again if we were in the area.

Almost cancelled due to a lack of people signed up but they combined 2 tours and it worked out great. While we were in Fredricksburg, the other group went to the LBJ Ranch and then they shopped Fredricksburg while we went to the wineries. The driver was born and raised in the area and had a lot of personal knowledge. The wineries were interesting and we had personalized service at each.

The guide was very well informed, he needed a small microphone in the mini van. The winery tour was good and the samples were plentiful. Time allotted was good. Fredricksburg was interesting but mainly shopping.

The wineries were very nice and the people were MORE than helpful and friendly. They also offered us more than the allotted amount of tastings plus let us "re-taste" when trying to decide which ones to purchase. One of them even gave us our glasses to keep! Our tour guide was informative but not "over-the-top"… The visit in Fredricksburg was nice but not long enough for me… That's not the tours fault though… Just gives us a reason to go back on our own some day! _br/_ Hotel pick up was convenient and on-time. _br/_ The drive fro San Antonio to Fredricksburg was just under 1 1/2 hours… so plan for that…_br/_ I would do this tour again.

The bus was an hour and a half late. We were supposed to leave at 9:00 and did not leave until 10:30. When the bus driver did show up he seemed apologetic and told us that the trip would not be cut short at all and we would still get to have the allotted amount of time at each stop. He kept his word, however about half way through the tour he became a kind of rude and grumpy and remained that way the rest of the trip. When we got back to San Antonio my friend accidentally left some gifts items on the bus and we tried to waive him down but he didn't stop. She called daily for the next week trying to recover her items but the tour company kept saying that the bus hadn't been cleaned yet. Then when it finally was cleaned her items were no where to be found.

the best thing about the tour was are tour guide his name was Bob. He made are day the best day of are nine day trip. He told us so much history of the area and was in no hurry to make us do anything we did not want to do. Please let him know how much we enjoyed the tour and how much we enjoyed him as our guide, we loved every minute of the tour. Thanks so much Pat and Ron Coughlin from Iowa.

We had a wonderful time and our tour guide was excellent. However, our group was combined with a group going to the LBJ Ranch. We didn't have near enough time in Fredericksburg and we had to wait an hour for the group to get back from the Ranch so we could go to the wineries. I think we would have had plenty of time to do everything we wanted to do if we wouldn't have been waiting for the other group.

Booked the trip on a Sunday and was told stores in Frederickburg would be open. When we arrived at 10:00AM very few stores were open. On Sunday the store if they open at all open at 12:00-12:30. The driver picked us up at 12:00 so we could not enjoy Fredericksburg. It was very disappointing walking around with nothing open. Would advise taking this tour any day but Sunday.
