It was very nice and we had a pleasant day around wine country. We tested a lot of wine. If I compare this with wine tour that we went on in Tuscany Italy there is a big difference. In Italy I think they are more professional and we learned more about wine making and it also included a restaurant visit at one of the wine makers. So if you have been on a tour in Italy this will not get better but it will be money well spent. We had a very engaged guide Don that worked hard to make the day pleasant. One thing I learned from several wine tours is that it is better to go on a small tour. I recommend all to take this trip if you are in San Francisco.

The tour was on time, very informative, fun and definitely a great value with opportunity to see small winery operations as well as estate wineries. Frank the tour guide was excellent, well informed and funny. We toured the Providence, Dutch Henry, David Fulton and Behringer wineries. All different and enjoyable. The only part I would be critical off is the vehicle itself..the luxury van was older, poor riding shocks with lots of noise and vibrations. Would highly recommend Extranomical Tours upgrade the transportation. I still give the tour a rating of a 5 as a 4.5 rounded up.

I had a great time with a great group of travelers and a very dedicated and knowledgeable guide. Extranomical were very professional. They informed me about my pick up point via text and email. Their vehicles were in mint condition. The wineries that we visited were expecting us and were great hosts. Overall, it was an informative and enjoyable visit to the wine country.

This was our second time on this tour. Great trip and the guide is very knowledgeable about the area. I'm giving 5 stars as the tour company and guide were amazing However, when I booked this online you can request some wineries and the tour company will see if they can accommodate. The first time I did this trip, the tour company received my request and we were able to go to the winery I chose. On this trip, the tour company did not receive the wineries from Viator that I listed when I booked. I would call the tour company directly after booking to see if they received the requested wineries.

Frank, our guide, and the tour, were both excellent. After all parties were promptly picked up, he began with a spot near the Golden Gate for a photo op which ended up being our favorite bridge photo after a week vacation which included biking the bridge. He shared his great knowledge of San Francisco and Napa Valley during the ride, asked for everyone's input on destinations, and managed expectations well ex - we won't be able to return to wineries throughout the trip, so if you would like to purchase a bottle there you should do so during the tasting. Ultimately, we stuck with the itinerary he had planned and were very pleased. He even knew the best menu items at our lunch spot mid-day!

This tour was fantastic. We were lucky enough to have a small vehicle and there were only 4 of us on the tour, so this gave us the flexibility to spend as much time as we liked at each wine estate and to come to an agreement with our tour guide and among ourselves, as to which wine farms we would like to visit and where we would like to have lunch etc._br/_ Our tour guide was fantastic! He was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area and about the best wine estates to visit. We visited some in the Nappa Valley and some in Sonoma Valley, and we stopped for lunch in the beautiful little town of Yountville, which has a few fanstastic restaurants, two or more of which are Michelin starred, like French Laundry. We managed to obtain a table at a beautiful Italian restaurant called Bottega, which had fantastic food and very friendly staff._br/_ We visited St Francis Wine Estate which was an amazing experience. We tasted many excellent wines and learnt a great deal about their estate and about Californian wine in general. We then visited Sunce tasting room, where we were able to taste a wide variety of excellent wines. We also visited Beaulieu estate and Carneros Sparkling Wine Estate which was magnificent and had superb views. We had a wonderful tasting of their sparkling wines - I really recommend this visit to Carneros! All in all a wonderful tour and an excellent way of seeing the Winelands. The countryside is really beautiful, apart from the wines. Cannot fault the tour or the guide at all ! Excellent value for money. Even if we had had the full complement of people, one really gets the benefit of a semi- private tour for little more than the cost of a normal tour. It is so much more enjoyable to move around without a huge group of people on a tour bus.

I sent a detailed letter describing the problems with the trip. Please refer back to that. I would gladly talk with someone if necessary.

We had done one wine tour before this with a different company and had a great experience. Unfortunately, this was different. Thank god we had a great time with the people in our group. Otherwise, I would have been furious. I made two recommendations as suggested in the tour listing. We did go to those wineries. However, nothing beyond that was planned!!! Our driver was saying things like Oh we could maybe go there, or maybe we will go here. He took us to his favorite one which was just a small store on the side of the road. Also, the listing said we would be going to Sonoma Plaza for lunch with time to go into tasting rooms and shop around. I was so looking forward to this because I got recommendations from a friend. Instead, our driver took us to the local IGA grocery store. He also was planning to take us back at 1:30. The tour description said 8-9 hr. day! A gentleman in our group was also furious and called the company and spoke with the driver. We had to ask to be taken over to Napa. Our driver seemed annoyed with us. After pushing to get what we paid for, we did go to a couple nice wineries and did enjoy the people in our group. This is definitely not what I paid for though and I would like to get my money back. The tour we did the day before was cheaper and a much better experience. Not sure I'll ever book with Viator again.

A very hot day - over 100F - buy very interesting and enjoyable. Surprised that wineries charge so much - 20 plus for tastings but appreciated that one of them did take the charge off if you purchased a bottle of wine - seems sensible business to me., Also with a long day tasting plus some wine at lunch not included in the tour cost though! sharing a tasting flight with your partner is sensible but some wineries do not allow this - pity!!

Frank was very helpful, fun, and accommodating. Although he does drive like a maniac. Most of the really good small wineries require reservations so we could only visit one from our list.

This trip was great! Phil was a very knowledgeable and personable driver. He was able to get us into Stag's Leap which was the winery we most wanted to visit! Other members of our tour were also able to get some of their requests met. Overall everyone was happy!_br/_ The stop at the Golden Gate Bridge on our way back was breathtaking and we got some amazing pictures.

The brochure said 6 wineries but the driver said anymore than three and we would be drunk ! He then took us to North napa and pointed out we didn't have time for more than 4 for sure. He talked to much and got cross when all of us wanted and extra 15 mins. His name was Don. He treated us like childr

Great driver and tour guide. We were able to give our recommendations on places to go based on preferences and budget. The views from the wineries we visited were amazing and the wines were delicious. I wish we could've had more time for lunch as well as visited one more winery. Ultimately worth the price for a great experience and I will use this tour company again.

This was a great experienced. The tour was tailored to the groups request and as we were a small group this was relatively easy. The driver was great just the right amount of command (to get people back on the coach) and information both about the wine area and trivia facts as we drove there.

Very interesting tour for someone like me who knows nothing about American wine._br/_ Visited a number of wineries and the driver was able to arrange last minute visits to a couple of wineries that people expressed an interest in visiting._br/_ Note that lunch and tasting costs are not included.

One of my favorite tours I took... We were a small group and this gave us the flexibility I wanted and allowed for a totally personalized tour. We got to see behind the scene things like a wineries wine cave, enjoyed private tastings, were able to select wineries not normally visited by larger tours

What was good: Our tour guide was great. Very knowledgeable and friendly and gave some very good restaurant commendations. We were picked up at our hotel right on time._br/_ What was not good: The buses are too darn big. All the buses are huge. The seats are high so it is very difficult to see unless you have the window seat and most of the tour is driving around. Because the bus is so large if people are chatty in the back it is hard to hear and a lot of people were chatty. We found out the next day that Great Pacific has the same tour but ONLY has large vans.We wished we had gone with them.

The trip was awesome! Pick up was right on time and the guide was very informative. Only 8 people on the tour, so size was perfect. My request was met and we were able to go to the winery I chose. AND, the best part is that we did not have to drive.

Was disappointed went on this trip because it promised to go to five or six vineyards went to 3. It mentioned it was customizable sent in a couple of vineyards when booked and driver said she would try to book them that morning. A little more effort would be nice. Expensive ,+ you pay for tasting

A most enjoyable day, well organised with comfortable transport. Our guide Don was knowledgeable, helpful and entertaining. Our only concern was the way in which wineries keep creeping up the tasting fees.

This was a wonderful day, spent with a small group of people and a fantastic guide Don, who had arranged some really interesting places for us to visit, and taste a variety of wines from Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Cannot recommend more highly. Visitors from overseas should be prepared though for higher than anticipated tasting costs.

This tour was absolutely wonderful, in large part to our wonderful guide, Safiya. We visited four diverse wineries and Sonoma Square. Safiya was very knowledgeable about San Francisco, Napa, and Sonoma. She made the entire trip comfortable, informative, and extremely enjoyable, even for the two persons in our party who do not drink. She was flexible, and suggested the stop in Sonoma Square when it became clear that we needed a small break from "tasting". We requested a stop at a winery that also had tastings of olive oils, and she knew just the right place! Our two non-drinkers gave the highest compliment..."we were not particularly looking forward to touring wine country, but this tour was a highlight of our trip to San Francisco".

Review by:   Reid K,    August 2012 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
Our guide was full of information about the area and the wineries and it was nice to go to some boutique wineries. That said, it seemed like each group on our tour thought that it included something different (tasting fees, lunch, or a ferry trip back from Sausalito). It made everything a bit confusing. All of the wineries that we went to had a tasting fee of $10 (which is pretty pricey for 2) and the "gourmet" lunch was picking up sandwiches at a supermarket. Word to the wise - make sure that you do a lot of research before settling on a tour.
