El Yunque Rainforest and Luquillo Beach from San Juan

El Yunque Rainforest and Luquillo Beach from San Juan

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Enjoy the best of both worlds - Luquillo Beach is a huge crescent of white sand lined with coconut palms with the mountains of El Yunque as the backdrop. Then explore the cool, mountainous and semi tropical El Yunque Rain Forest, home to unique plant and animal species. Perfect for families!

Departing from San Juan, you can combine a visit to the rainforest with an afternoon at one of the world's most beautiful beaches. On the Northeast coast of Puerto Rico, Luquillo Beach is the island's best and most popular public stretch of tranquil waters and golden sand. Offshore are coral formations and spectacular sea life and tropical fish. The water is calm and comfortable - the perfect place for families!

From here, you'll explore the cool, mountainous and semi tropical El Yunque rainforest. The abundant rainfall is shed through rocky rivers, creating many cascades of waterfalls and pools. El Yunque hosts a number of unique plant and animal species such as the endangered Puerto Rican parrot and the tiny coquis, an indigenous tree frog.

According to ancient Indian legend, the good spirit 'Yuquiyu' reigned on his mighty mountain-top throne, protecting Puerto Rico and its people. The name Luquillo is derived from this god's spirit's Indian name.

Great experience! The tour guide was knowledgeable. I will recommend this tour to get a taste of our rainforest and Luquillo beach!

Transportation to and from the hotel was great. We had Jaime again as our tour guide. He was good about talking about Puerto Rico history and life on the island for the 45 minute mini bus drive to the rain forest. The nature walk was a very mild, very small hilly walk. My 80 year handled it just fine and she's not too sturdy on her feet. It was a little taste of the rain forest. The only other walk was back into a pocket of water called the Banyo Grande. Again another easy walk. Other than this, the bus took you to the sites where you could take pics. Jaime will take your pic for you, just ask him. Luquillo Beach was beautiful! It was a nice to cool off in clear ocean water where the beach was made up of FINE brown sand. There was a couple of small outdoor restaurants to grab some lunch. My big disappointment in this trip was that the beach time was listed as 2.5 hours. However, we were only allowed to stay about 1 hour and 45 minutes. We were even back at our hotel an hour before the scheduled return time. I guess Jaime wanted to get home to his family. : We needed all the 2.5 hours just to have a quick lunch and spend some time on this gorgeous beach. Other than this one thing, this trip is worth booking.

Jaime our tour guide was super knowledgeable and very nice. He has a great sense of humour that kept us laughing through the entire tour. The beach was amazing and beautiful. The water was calm and the food there was great too. All in all a great experience!

The rainforest tour was very short, we spend maybe 20 minutes walking in the forest, the rest of the time was driving and stopping here and there. There are other tours of the rainforest in which you really spend 2 hours or more hiking. Next time we'll do that, because the rainforest is really worth it, I wish we had spend more time there. This combined tour supposedly combines two different things, but at the end you don't have enough time to enjoy. As for the beach, it's an OK beach, nothing spectacular, and also we went there Sunday and it was full of locals, really crowded. I'd recommend another tour that takes you with a boat/catamaran to one of the islands, the beaches there are excellent and not crowded. If you really want to see the Luquillo Beach just take an Uber or rent a car and go there yourself, it's a public beach, lots of facilities, easy access. Also this particular tour was shorter than promised, we were supposed to come back at 5pm, he returned us at the hotel at 3:30pm. I wish we had spend the missing 1.5 hours in the forest, then I'd give it higher rating. But as it is now, I wouldn't do it again.

This was an interesting tour. I had signed up for the tour that included more hiking in the forest, and seeing a few waterfalls. This was a good taste of the some areas that I will return to, and hopefully have enough interest to see.

I was disappointed with this tour. Our group of 7 made 4 stops in El Yunque Visitors Center, La Coca Falls, Yokahu Tower, and Juan Diego Falls in about 2.5 hours. It was basically a stop-and-go van tour with little commentary and no hiking. Juan Diego Falls was the highlight. We then had a 2-hour 20 per person lunch at the Desperado followed by a visit to Luquillo Beach 2 hr. Our tour guide Javier is personality-plus but seemed bent on cutting the day short until a couple of us reminded him it was a full day tour. I would recommend this tour to a friend as an introduction to El Yunque/Luquillo Beach, not as a hiking experience Note: Viator's online description of this tour is confusing and should be corrected to avoid confusion.

This is a great tour for people wanting to see the highlights of the rain forest, try some local food and spend some time at one of the most beautiful Puerto Rican beaches. They pick you up at your hotel if your hotel is on the list, and from there, you just get to sit back and enjoy the view mostly. Carlos was amazing! He was our driver/tour guide and was very knowledgeable. The forest is beautiful and the local food for lunch is definitely something everyone should try. Luquillo beach is gorgeous! The water was calm and the view of the mountains was breathtaking. As someone who wasn't too interesting in renting a car, this was the perfect solution to get to these places with someone who not only knows the area, but also knows the history.

This tour, was at best, mediocre. To be fair, we went on July 5th, the day after a big holiday. We went to the beach first, which was probably a mistake in retrospect. The beach was filthy and the bathrooms were beyond disgusting and unusable. I wouldn and #39;t do this tour again.

Ricky was our guide and a great one! He told us all kinds of history and knowledge of San Juan on our drive to the rainforest. Then he guided us all around the hiking paths and found frogs and other small animals and told us all about them and the forest plants. Then we stopped for lunch at a small stand with Puertorican food, Then off to the beautiful!! beach of Luquillo. Lovely. Again Ricky is a very good guide and does his job well. He made our day!

I expected a walk on a trail in forest. Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 circular walk. Got a scramble up hillside to see small waterfall and pond. Driver 100.

Frankie was fantastic! His sense of humor combined with knowledge of El Yunque made this breathtaking trip a must. Our 10 and 13 year old boys enjoyed the tour. We were not able to visit Luquillo Beach simply because there were not enough people signed up for that part of the tour. Still worth it. Be cautious of bringing young children. There are narrow pathways with steep drop offs.

We had a great time seeing the forest and hanging out at the beach. Our guide victor was great. Our hotel was not one of the pickup places but we had an easy time meeting up with the group. We could have used less time for lunch maybe 40 minutes rather than 70.

Our tour took place on January 31st. Our tour guide, Robert, was very knowledgeable and informative. Not only did we learn about the rain forest and the beach, Robert also explained to us about the history, culture and people of Puerto Rico. After hiking, it was wonderful to be able to relax and swim at a beautiful beach. There are food stands on the beach and wonderful drinks. Thank you, Robert, for all that you did for us on our tour. We highly recommend this tour.

This tour was the highlight of my trip to San Juan, PR! Our guide was Victor Martinez. He was wonderful! He has such a wealth of knowledge of Puerto Rico and the rain forest. The tour was very laid back and relaxing with a nice easy hike in the forest and some stops to take photos of the beautiful scenery and views from the observation tower. If you are looking for a challenging hike, I suggest you take another tour, but it was perfect for what we were looking for. Luquillo Beach was also nice, but I think if I were to do this tour again, I would stick with just the rain forest, but it was nice to see another beach aside from the resort beach. I would definitely recommend this tour with Victor!

I'd thought that a tour of the rain forest would include actually walking through the rain forest; instead we were just driven to a few spots for people to take pictures and then back into the van. I didn't need all the time at the beach at the end; I'd rather have used some of it hiking. Maybe I misunderstood the tour, but it was disappointing.

the tour 'advertised' was NOT the tour i was taken on. the tour guide did NOT take us on a hike, we spent a total of about 15 minuets outside of the car in the actual Yunque rainforrest. I was expecting a physically challenging hike, instead the driver would drive the van to different points along the way and tell us we had some time to take pics and just meet back at the van. Very very very dissapointed that there was no actual hike on the tour. Once we arrived at the beach we were forced to eat from one crummy restaurant right on the beach. Instead of driving us to the strip of restaurants next to the beach (which is where all the locals told me to go) the tour guide took us directly to Luquillo beach where the only restaurant was a snack shack type place with a very limited menu. I was very dissapointed in the tour overall, the tour guide himself seemed to be in a hurry to just get us through the tour and on the drive up to el Yunque he talked non-stop on a loud speaker speaker which was projected through the vans sound system. I feel the tour was a waste of money. I could have easily rented a car myself and driven to the rainforrest and beach and it would have been much more enjoyable. I do want to add though that Viator (which is only the booking company not the actual tour company) was wonderful to deal with. They were extremly helpful on the phone and made the booking process quick and easy.
