Mountain Horseback Riding Tour from Santiago

Go off the beaten track on a horseback-riding tour through the mountains of the Santiago area. With an expert guide, you’ll follow local ‘arrieros’ (cowboys) across streams and along scenic terrain. Beginners rest assured: these small but sturdy Criollo horses -- known for their stamina -- will put anyone at ease. Don your chaps and cap for a rugged ride!

After your guide picks you up from your Santiago hotel, relax on the 30-minute drive into the rugged mountain range (known locally as the ‘cordillera’). When you arrive, put on your chaps and mount your Criollo – a stout and hardy, long-distance horse breed known for its stamina in mountainous terrain. You’ll get a brief safety training and some riding instruction, but no prior experience is required to ride one!

When you’re ready, follow a local cowboy who guides you onto the trail for a 3-hour ride on horseback. Take in the magnificent scenery as you scale the mountain paths, and cross some streams along the way.

Admire the breathtaking panoramas of Chile’s gorgeous natural surroundings as you learn about the horses, abundant bird life, and native flora and fauna from your arriero guide. There’s plenty of time to stop for great photo opportunities during your ride.

Afterward, stop to visit an authentic arriero ranch. You’ll be welcomed by his family to enjoy a cup of coffee or try mate – a traditional South American drink typically sipped from a gourd through a metal straw. While you’re there, enjoy a picnic lunch including locally baked bread, seasonal fruits, cheeses, cookies and more!

Your horseback-riding tour ends with return transport to your hotel.

A fantastic trip, geared more for the inexperienced rider I would say as its a gentle walk through the mountains. We have never ridden before other than donkeys on the beach but felt totally at ease on the horse following direction from our wonderful guide Lorraine. Would highly recommend this experience. Lorraine was extremely knowledgeable about the area which again added to the experience.

This was an excellent tour, Felipe was our guide and we were so luck to have a Private Tour. He was very attentive, funny and spoke great English. The horses were so gentle. We were a party of 4 my husband myself and our two adult children. We were all experienced riders so Felipe took us to parts of the mountain that made the ride fun and challenging. Juan was also in assistance to make sure we were all ok. We had a great fantastic time, it is so peaceful and the views of Santiago were amazing. Afterward Felipe prepared a wonderful picnic lunch for us with a nice bottle of wine. I would highly recommend this tour and Felipe our guide.

I highly recommend this tour. My wife and my daughters boyfriend had never been on a horse before. The guides made sure that they got gentle horses. All the horses are well behaved and easy to ride, The views were awesome, the guides never leave you alone and are always there to help you. This is not a follow the leader on a flat circle trail. This is up and down and around trail that never gets boring. We saw eagles and a condor flying high up. We liked it so much that on our next trip we want to try one of their overnight tours. Also at the end of the day there is a delicious lunch waiting for you with good Chilean wine to wash it down. I highly recommend this tour.

On March 5, 2017, we a group of four had scheduled our sunset horseback riding tour. We had a wonderful experience during our tour. The staff was very friendly and helpful, taking time to explain things that enhanced our tour. This tour especially perfect for people who have never been on a horse. The horses were well behaved and knew the trails wells. The sites were breathtaking and we were able to see a most beautiful sunset while riding in the foothills of the Andes._br/_ I highly recommend this tour so you can experience the beauty of Chile and the Andes. Everything about this tour was spectacular. Thank you to our tour guide David for an excellent experience!

Fantastic day, very relaxing and a beautiful way to see the Andes. Tour guide brilliant and we had a fantastic Chilean lunch washed down with red wine. Neither of us had any experienced horse riding but had no issues going over the mountainous terrain as the horses were very well trained and the guide kept a close eye on us and coached us well on the way up.

This was EXCELLENT. We were in a tour of two other couples--which apparently was one of the largest tours they had done for a while. We had an excellent trail ride through the hills with an incredibly knowledgeable guide Juane who spoke perfect English and was full of really interesting facts about the area. The lunch was simple and delicious, and everything was capped off with a great glass of wine. We would HIGHLY recommend this tour--probably the best part of our 12 day Chile trip.

..............................................................FANTASTIC............................................................._br/_ Firstly I must say my wife and I are not horse riders, or very young._br/_ When we booked this we somehow imagined it to be a gentle clip clop along the track, looking up at mountains, we were totally wrong. When our Columbian guide from the horse ranch set off down a steep slope into a dried up river bed I almost refused to follow, but he showed me how to do it and we were soon 2000 metres above Santiago enjoying an amazing view. There was just the 2 of us , our guide from the ranch and our very helpful and friendly guide from the tour company. The ride back down was exciting and was followed by a relaxing picnic with time to discuss the experience. We were then taken back to our hotel. Just one note of caution: Because of the morning traffic in Santiago, the company cannot pick you up from a city centre hotel, so we took a taxi to another one, they did take us back to our hotel. an excellent, personal service. I cannot rate this brilliant experience too highly, thank you.
