Skagway Shore Excursion: Full-Day Tour of the Yukon

Skagway, United States of America

Spend time in port in Skagway enjoying a full-day shore excursion into the Yukon, Canada's westernmost territory. Explore some of North America's most stunning wilderness, stop for lunch at Caribou Crossing, a wildlife museum, and visit a dog-sled camp, where you can meet the adorable huskies preparing for the Yukon Quest dog sled race. Be prepared to stand in awe of natural beauty of southeast Alaska, British Columbia and the Yukon Territory on this Skagway sightseeing tour.

Upgrade to Dog Sledding Option

Make your time in port complete with the addition of summer dog sledding. You'll be guided by an authentic musher on a thrilling 15-20 minute wheeled training cart along a forested trail, which was once traveled by the Gold Rush stampedes.

All passengers must have a valid passport.

When your cruise ship docks in Skagway, begin your adventure by climbing the Klondike Highway north to the US/Canadian border, which parallels the 1898 Gold Rush Trail. Cross into Canada and traverse through the spectacular Northern Boreal Forest, which includes Bove Island, Tutshi Lake and Tagish Lake. After you break for a photo at the Yukon border, you'll travel on to Lake Bennett, see the "World's Smallest Desert" and marvel at gorgeous Emerald Lake.

Stop at the Caribou Crossing Trading Post and Museum where you can relax and enjoy a tasty, satisfying lunch of baked chicken with BBQ sauce, baked potato, coleslaw, dinner rolls, donuts and coffee -- Yukon style! After lunch, visit one of the most spectacular wildlife museums in the North Country. As you stroll through the 9,000-square foot (2743-square meter) museum, you will find the quality of the wildlife exhibits to be truly remarkable. The museum's exhibits range from Ice Age specimens to animals more recently introduced into the Yukon. Also, included are exotic animals from both the arctic and sub-arctic regions of Alaska and the Yukon, as well as from around the world.

Also at Caribou Crossing are the lovable Huskies preparing for the Yukon Quest dog sled race. Pet the dogs and play with puppies, and hear the musher's adventures of dog sledding in the Yukon during the winter! As you journey back to Skagway, keep your eye out for possible wildlife sightings, such as bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep and mountain goats.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return back to the ship in Skagway for this activity. If your ship is delayed and you are unable attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

My husband and I did the Alaskan cruise 7 years ago and chose the White Pass Railway while in Skagway. It was a beautiful train ride, but we decided to do something different this time so we picked the bus tour of Yukon with Frontier Excursions. It was awesome! Instead of only getting a glimpse of the wonderful sights while on the train, we were able to stop and enjoy them on this tour. Our driver HEIDI was AMAZING. She was knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. She stopped on the side of the road for us to enjoy a mama bear with her cubs and entertained us during the drive with wonderful stories. The White Pass takes you to the Canadian border, this tour takes you much further in. I highly recommend this tour! My only pet peeve is how many tourist don't tip their tour guide, especially after 7 hours of hard work.

This was about the best day tour we have done! We were met and welcomed at the pier after leaving the ship. The bus held about twenty passengers and our guide Candice, was absolutely delightful. Well informed, an excellent driver, and she was obviously also enjoying the perfect weather and friendly atmosphere on the bus. We were fortunate to see two lots of bears and the scenery was breathtaking. Candice stopped at all the view points and was careful to ensure that we avoided any other tourist buses! She would select the best time and best viewpoints all along the way. Our main stop at Caribou Crossing was fun and a tasty barbecue lunch was included. We saw the Husky dogs pulling their wheeled sleds as part of their summer training program and we met a couple of Husky puppies. A very worthwhile trip..

Wonderful scenery with multiple stops for taking great photos. Patrick, our guide, was both onformative and amusing. Lunch at Carcross with opportunities to pat puppies and an excellent museum. Some also took a ride on a cart pulled by dogs. Icong on the cake was an encounter from our bus with a bear who wanted to walk down the road! Patrick turned around and took us back for a better look. Fabulous day out.

This was a great excursion. Our guide, Heidi, was friendly, knowledgeable and just great overall! The views of the mountains and lakes were spectacular. Lunch was delicious and we even saw a bear on the way back! Heidi was great to get the bus in position for us to have the maximum viewing of the bear. The price was very reasonable for what we saw.

Brooke was our guide for the day and she was amazing! This tour was wonderful! We seen a bear climbing a tree, a porcupine, eagles, Brooke always tried to let us get photos of everything we wanted. The scenery was beautiful, the drive was relaxing and informative and apparently you get to see more on this tour than the train ride and it's cheaper, plus the train can't stop for photo opportunities and doesn't venture out as far as the bus can. I highly recommend!

This tour was quite excellent, and exactly what we were looking for. We had a large group of about 10 adults, including my 82 year old grandma - so we didn't want anything with too much walking. We got to see a lot of beautiful views, breathe the fresh air, and even stumble across a few grizzly bears. And all this was significantly less expensive than what the cruise line was offering. It was all quite exciting for our group, and we would totally do it again!

This excursions was phenomenal! We had Brooke as our tour guide and she allowed us to stop for fantastic photo ops and any animal we may have seen. We had so much fun and got to see so much! She even took our pictures at the Alaska and Yukon signs for us and they turned out great! If we go back we will definitely go on this tour again. So beautiful and worth it

We went in October whilst on the Norwegian Sun. Tyler was absolutely brilliant. It was the last trip of the season and he was so enthusiastic and made sure we had time to see everything with plenty of opportunities to take photos and enjoy the scenery._br/_ He also has a good sense of humour, which made the day fun.

Wonderfully varied terrain! From mountains, to valleys, rivers, lakes, glaciers, and a desert! Our driver/tour guide, Mike, was very well informed and entertaining! Lunch was tasty and the animals in the preserve were varied and included sled dogs. Emerald Lake the private one was beautiful and emerald! We highly recommend this tour! There were many photo stops that we would not have gotten on the train tours. Thank you Frontier Excursions!

Had a awesome tour guide in Hiedi, very informative made our whole trip exciting. Stopped very often got wonderful pictures and she even took pictures of us with our camera's. She saw mountain goats on the side of hills which were only specs. but sure enough they were there. She never rushed us and we had ample time to do everything. Can't say enough for her. Thank you for being our guide.

We had an excellant tour of the Yukon with a perfect size bus. The limitation of the bus size about 26 people was perfect to make access on and off the bus rapid for taking pictures, etc. Our guide Tyler aka Tbone was great, very knowlegable. We learned about Skagway then travelled through 5 different eco-systems en route through British Colubia into the Yukon territory. I certainly didn't expect to see 'a desert' on a mountain but we did! Stopped and had barbque chicken lunch and my wife got to hold future sled-dog puppies. Some of our group extended their excursion to include a sled dog ride! I am not a geologist but if I was I would have been in heaven. The territory is so different than other land areas we've visited. Tyler made the day with his jokes and commentary. Definately worth the time and money. It was great.

We really enjoyed this excursion. The sights were amazing and thankfully we had a nice, sunny day. Our guide John was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about Alaska and the Yukon. The sled dog/museum/lunch stop was a little less than expected, but acceptable. We would definitely recommend this excursion to anyone looking for good sightseeing tour to the Yukon.

I was wary of a 6.5 hour bus excursion. After the first stop I was afraid 6.5 hours was not going to be enough. The scenery is stunning. Our guide, John (the mustache) Sharp, has been guiding in the area for 9 years and has hiked most of the major points and was very entertaining and informative.

We had a wonderful knowledgeable driver, Brooke, who gave a terrific audio biography of the area as we drove to our final destination, Emerald Lake. It was breathtaking. Like a post card! We had perfect weather all the way up to the summit. Brooke mentioned that the visibility of the mountains was highly usual and that we were the lucky few, able to capture such beautiful full views. Some of the passengers saw a bear that quickly ran into the trees. I gave it a four star rating because the animals were not cooperating, we saw no wildlife. It was worth the money for a drive into the interior. Driver narrates, you sit and enjoy the beautiful view, have a hot lunch at Caribou Crossing, stretch your legs at all the right stops and get a nap on the way back. Better than renting a car! Our driver Brooke passed up the other buses at the crowded Yukon sign and stopped for that all important photo op on our return down. We didn't miss anything, but the crowds, smart driver!

This was a great day out, with plenty of stops for photos. Our guide and driver, Candice, really made the day, sharing her great knowledge of the area. She is obviously a very well travelled young lady and has just the right aptitude for this kind of work, with her combination of humour and knowledge.

Awesome tour! Our guide was Tyler. All I can say is he was informative, funny and made our day in Skagway. We saw bears, snowshoe hair and he never rushed us. Loved being in a smaller group instead of big tour bus from cruise ship. This is a much better way to see the white pass than riding the train. We talked to several people on the cruise that were very disappointed with the train and bus tour. They did not see bears and were rushed.

Mike was a great guide. Very knowledgeable. BBQ chicken dinner was bad. Found the tour itself to be very interesting and scenic. Appropriate opportunities for photos. Stop at some marginal store in Carcross was questionable. I thought there might have been more interesting places to stop.

Our guide, Tyler, picked us up on the dock on time. After a quick drive through Skagway we were on our way to the Yukon. We had frequent photo stops. We stopped to see Dall Sheep grazing on a hillside and later a black bear grazing on the side of the road. Stopping for wildlife sightings never happens on the cruise ship tours._br/_ Tyler was very knowledgeable and was able to give insight on the geography and wildlife of the area. Several time Tyler spotted eagles and pulled over for us to watch them fly.
