Skagway Shore Excursion: Half-Day Tour to the Yukon Border

Skagway, United States of America

Perfect for a short time in port, this Skagway shore excursion will show you a glimpse of Canada's legendary Yukon. On this half-day tour, you'll cross the border into Canada and drive along the Klondike Highway in British Columbia. As you travel, you'll see local landmarks and maybe even spot native wildlife roaming the spectacular scenery, including moose, bears, birds, mountain goats and more!
All passengers must have a valid passport.

The White Pass was a route that was used in 1898 during the Gold Rush by those seeking fortune and you will discover this famous trail on your half-day tour of the Yukon. After your ship docks in Skagway, you'll head out up the Klondike Highway, beholding impressive scenery as you go, from the breathtaking coastal mountain ranges to the stunning waterfalls. Travel past local landmarks such as WP&YR railroad, Brackett Wagon Road, Pitchfork Falls and Moore Creek Bridge; then climb a 3292-foot (1003-meter) summit to White Pass and enter into Canada and the "Tormented" Valley, a subarctic alpine tundra.

As you journey through Canada, keep an eye out for native wildlife -- you may spot moose, bears, birds, sheep, goats and more! While in the Northern Boreal Forest, you'll stop at Lakes Tutshi and Windy Arm, which are surrounded mile-high mountains. Lastly, take a photo at the Yukon Border sign for memorable photo souvenir.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return back to the ship in Skagway for this activity. If your ship is delayed and you are unable attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

The excursion and driver, Max, were excellent. The 28? passenger bus was full, clean, on time and in good shape. Max, our driver, was knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic. Really good! Scenery as we drove from Skagway up through White Pass (elevation ~3400 feet), through the alpine environment, past Fraser, then Tutshi Lake, and on to the border of BC and Yukon Territory was beautiful._br/_ The return trip back to our ship took about an hour and 20 minutes, Very enjoyable experience.

Our guide, Brooke, was fantastic. The scenery was great. We also saw a bear, a moose, mountain goats and Iditarod puppies. The tour was 3x deeper into the frontier and half the price as as the train tour. Also, because we were in a small bus, we stopped for photos a scenic lookouts and of the wild animals we encountered. Very nice.

We had a small bus and our driver Tyler was a local man who kept us entertained with information and jokes! He went out of his way to make sure we saw bears etc. Always happy to take photos of us at the borders. A really good trip! Value for money.

I highly recommend this tour, our tour guide Brook was the best, we stopped numerous times for pictures, the beauty of this tour was absolutely gorgeous, I felt like I was looking at a postcard. She was very informative about the area. It was worth every penny spent.

it was incredible.. the best excursion we took on our Alaskan Cruise.. our tour guide was Brook.. very informed and very entertaining.. the stops were beautiful, as were just looking out the window as we drove thru.. Any question we asked, she knew the answer.. I tried to review this excursion before, but for some reason it never took.. was disappointed because really wanted to let you know this was one of the highlights of our trip.. the price was good too

Amazing. Our tour guide was so informative and also very funny. The scenery is spectacular. Had lots of stops for photo opportunities our guide turned the bus around so we could get good photos of a black bear. He brought along his own book to pass around about history of the gold rush. Brilliant.

There were four of us on this tour and we agreed that this was much better than taking the train. The driver of the van was from Scagway, which is more relevant than someone just working in Alaska for the summer. She could tell us what it was like to live in Scagway. When we saw the mama bear with her cub, the driver pulled right over and stopped so we could take photos and enjoy watching them. She understood her passengers. She managed her time well and we got to see what we had hoped to see. Taking our photos under the Yukon sign was pretty neat!

Very friendly driver who was willing to slow down, stop and even at one stage to turn around for us to have photo opportunities, or to follow animals. Decided to do this instead of the train, glad we did, think you see a bit more of the area, plus we saw more wildlife.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour with Beverly. We saw so much more than what train passengers could see. We made about ten stops, some planned, others that she knew we would enjoy. It was a treat to be on the Yukon, even if only for a short while. Beverly was very conscientious about the abilities of all the passengers.

We originally thought this was a train ride and were disappointed when we found out it was only a bus tour. However, we soon found that to be beneficial as we made several stops along the route to get out and enjoy and take pictures of the most spectacular views! Our tour guide, JJ, was very friendly, informative and entertaining! Wonderful opportunity to see authentic Alaska!

Our tour guide, John Sharp, was simply THE BEST!!!!! He went above and beyond in helping me with a wardrobe malfunction I lost the sole of my shoe!!! He tracked down some shipping tape from a local vendor and - in his best Prince Charming impersonation - provided a short-term solution to my predicament, thus allowing me to thoroughly enjoy the rest of the tour with no concerns!

This tour was exceptional. Our tour guide Brooke provided the group with in depth history along the tour and assisted in picture. Brooke was very pleasant, a joy to listen to and provided some laughs along the way. So much better then a train ride. We could get out and enjoy each stop.

Due to our group size we were able to have a private bus which was very convenient, our tour guide Heidi was very informative about the areas we went to, were fortunate to see a black bear eating dandelions on the side of the road. Scenery was awesome. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time and saw so very many critters! Black bear, brown bear, Dall's sheep, a young moose, and bald eagles!! We ate a pine tree interesting that locals make beer out of the new growth. Supposed to be full of vitamin C! Our tour took longer than normal because of all the animal sightings, but our tour bus driver still got us back in time to do a little shopping before boarding the ship. We were disappointed that there wasn't much of a choice of places to eat, and those that were there closed early... Don't close before the cruise ship leaves! It was only 4pm Part of the experience is eating local as much as possible. There was an Italian place that was over priced, but we weren't in Italy... We were the first cruise ship of the season so that MAY have had something to do with it. We went mid-May and it is still a little chilly... wear a coat, ear muffs, and warm shoes!

Our trip with awesome tour guide Brooke was awesome and incredibly scenic. Starting in downtown Skagway, Brooke shared her knowledge of local history, pointing out interesting landmarks. As our small bus climbed into higher, we stopped at a small waterfall and got our first looks into the valley. A stop at the Canadian border sign British Columbia allowed us to experience the bleak but beautiful rocky landscape. We made several more stops including alongside a lake with great photo ops. Since we were doing well on time, we traveled past the next border and into the Yukon Territory a short way, where we saw mountain goats with young. Earlier a black bear was close to the road, seen safely from inside the bus. On the way back we enjoyed the great views and more photo ops. Brooke had a great depth of knowledge of the area and was so passionate about her job, we enjoyed the trip 100 and highly recommend it!

The tour was very impressive and Brooke our tour guide was the best. She narrated the whole 4 hours of the trip and was very flexible with regards to stopping the bus when wildlife was encountered. She also provided with binoculars to see several mountain goats that were literally not visible to the naked eye. The tour did cover everything that was promised and the bus was very comfortable.

We are very pleased that we chose this excellent tour. Our tour guide Jon was superb. His knowledge of the area is second to none and his love and respect for this beautiful landscape is obvious to all who are lucky enough to have him as their driver and guide. There were 12 of us on the tour and we were kept enthralled and entertained throughout. We made several stops at various points of interest and Jon was more than happy to take photos and pass on local information. Highly recommended.

A trip full of new experiences for us. Very friendly and knowledgeable guide/driver who 'spiced up' the commentary with her own personal experiences which added a lot of colour and humour to the tour. Lots of photo stops and a good break at the Yukon Suspension Bridge.

The cruise lines push the train ride up to the Yukon and that's OK. But we wanted to be able to stop along the way and take photos. This is a great alternative to the train. Our driver, JJ, was just great, so friendly and informative. She spotted some Dahl sheep on the mountain side and turned the bus around so we could get a photo. She filled us in on what's its like to live in Skagway and even took through some neighborhoods. We enjoyed several stops including a suspension bridge and the Welcome to Alaska sign. We booked this tour ourselves before the cruise. We started our early and got back in time to enjoy the downtown area. There was great scenery along the route. And this is less expensive than the train, Highly recommend this one.

We enjoyed the personal tour guide. There were only 3 couples on our tour and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and very friendly. We had an option to do this tour through the cruise line and take a rail service, but we think this was the better choice.

I chose this tour by bus rather than the most popular train based on other reviews. I believe they were absolutely right! The bus stopped at several places along the way for photo opportunities. The driver kept us entertained the entire time with sharing his knowledge of the area, the wildlife in the region, and inserting a bit of humor here and there. He was fantastic! We were also able to see a bear at one of the 'get-offs' along the road where he pulled over and let us take photos from the bus. The bear was very unconcerned and not afraid of us at all. I highly recommend this tour.

Our tour guide, Beverly, was absolutely outstanding. She was as taken by the beauty of Alaska as we were. I was as if she was seeing it for the first time along with us! We happened to have beautiful blue skies and comfortable temperatures for our tour May 16, 2017 which certainly added to our experience. Beverly shared her knowledge and appreciation of life in Alaska with humor and insight. We are so glad we booked this tour. It was also a great value we certainly felt we got our monies worth and more. Thank you. _br/_ Linda and Tom Walters

Great! Really glad we booked this trip instead of the train trip. We were able to get off the coach and take pictures at multiple stops. The scenery was beautiful. Our driver/guide was very knowledgeable. We went much further into the Yukon than we would have gone by train. Our driver was flexible about drop off and pick up points ship or downtown.

The shore excursion more than met our expectations. A good guide, who was not only personable, but knowledgeable. The excellent weather helped as regards scenery and unfortunately the very rare sighting of our four legged friends. That said, still a very good day and would rate as value for money.
