Skagway Shore Excursion: White Pass Summit and Skagway City Tour

Skagway, United States of America

When your cruise ship docks in Skagway, enjoy a shore excursion to see the best sights of the city, and take in the views from the majestic White Pass Summit area. Following the Klondike Highway, you'll have the opportunity to photograph the Gold Rush Cemetery, Skagway Scenic Overlook and the "Welcome to Alaska" sign.

All passengers must have a valid passport.

Spend time in port in Skagway breathing in the fresh mountain air and enjoying the great outdoors! Glimpse amazing views of spectacular mountains and coastal rainforests, and see historic landmarks including Brackett Wagon Road, Pitchfork Falls, Moore Creek Bridge, and the WP&YR railroad.

Included is the Skagway City Overlook, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the town, harbor and cruise ships. At the Klondike Gold Rush Cemetery, hear the tale of Frank Reid and "Soapy" Smith and the gunfight that changed the future of Skagway.

Leaving Skagway for the White Pass Summit area, you'll journey along the Klondike Highway which parallels the White Pass Railroad, a popular tourist attraction today. In between visiting historic points of interest, distant glacier views, thundering waterfalls and majestic mountain vistas, you can relive the Klondike Gold Rush with stories from your guide.

Continue traveling parallel to the White Pass Trail and White Pass Railroad, climbing 3,292-feet (1,003-meter) to the summit before descending into the upper portion of the daunting Tormented Valley. The Tormented Valley contains large areas with an almost lunar appearance, making this one of the most unique eco-systems in North America. Explore a forest-tundra ecotone with a stunted forest of 300-year old trees and alpine tundra.

The final leg will be through the Tormented Valley, with a stop at Summit Lake. As you survey the landscape of the White Pass Summit Area, admire unforgiving wilderness that inspired such classic authors as Jack London and Robert Service. Returning to Skagway, stop at the "Welcome to Alaska" sign, the most popular photo stop on this bus tour.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return back to the ship in Skagway for this activity. If your ship is delayed and you are unable attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

Debated the train vs bus tour. Glad we bused. Driver/guide was very informative. Told lots of history tales and stories. Made stops along the way. Photo opts and interesting sights. Saw a bear along the roadway - very up close.!! Toured the cemetery and hiked to the falls. Plenty of time to view and enjoy the scenery. Dropped of in the city and wandered on our own.

Our guide on this trip was very knowledgeable about the area. We went as far up as we could to clear the clouds and fog to get a great view and some sunshine.

Tour guide/driver at the best we can expect. Excellent service attitude. History and stories about the place visits were well told. Tried his best to give us opportunities to take photos at all the stops.

Our tour guide Beverly was not professional. She didn't count and make sure we were all onboard every time we stopped at a place. On our last stop, she started driving away as we were walking towards the bus. I was assisting my 81 year old mother and 80 year old aunt. It's a good thing my 2 sons went ahead of us to the bus and told her we were not yet on board so she went back!!! She didn't even apologize. She offered to take my aunt's pic but when my aunt wanted a different background, she gave her the attititude like rolled her eyes. I have travelled a lot and used Viator many times and never encountered a guide like her.

We had a wonderful experience with this tour. The tour guide, Jessica, who is also the bus driver, greeted us right after we got off the ship. She was very pleasant and narrated for us throughout the trip. We learned a lot about the history of Alaska, Skagway and the Gold Rush. We made several stops along the way including a short hike to the beautiful Lower Reid Fall. I highly recommended taking the bus instead of the train to explore the town and go up the White Pass. There are more stops with the bus where you can get out and take picture

We had a nice tour up to the White Pass. It was much more economical for our family than taking the steam train. Loved the hike to the waterfall.

This was a great half day tour shore excursion and our guide Beverley made sure we were well informed the whole way and that we learnt as much as we could about the area. Skagway is a beautiful little town, especially at this time in the summer and the tour started with a look at the historic cemetery before heading up Whites Pass and over the border into Canada. There was plenty of photo stops and the scenery is spectacular. The tour has us back in town at lunch time and then we had plenty of time to wander around the shops and take the train ride up the pass which is also spectacular and a must do. The trip worked in well with our ship and I'd recommend it to anyone who didn't want to do the more energetic options. - Be sure you take your passport with you as you cross the border into British Columbia and passports are checked at the US border.

The only thing we couldn't change was the low ceiling and overcast. Saw things going by small bus you wouldn't see from the train. Highly recommend.

Coach driver was very friendly and knowledgeable. We may several stops on the way up and got extended time off the coach when we reached the halfway point to site see, walk the scenery and take pictures. The mountains, waterfalls and valleys were breath taking.

Booked this trip separately from the Disney Cruise always our preference as we get more personalized service, definitely smaller groups and much better rates. Our guide was amazing, uber knowledgeable and didn't hurry us along at any of the stops. _br/_ Definitely ask him to stop at the local bakery on your way back into port.

Great tour! We had 4 or 5 stops to get out it was sort of cold out in May and admire the views, a kind and interesting driver/host in a short tour. We enjoyed scooping up glacier fresh water from a waterfall beside the highway and the walk and photo op in the graveyard. I was happy to spend a few hours on a tour then have time to explore on our own.

We chose this shore excursion because of cost. Train ride up the pass for 4 people would have been 800 and the cruise didn't offer anything like it for the same cost. This tour was under 50 per person and we still got to see many sights that the train ride would have shown us. This tour was perfect in price and length and we still had time and money to spend in town.

Great value for the money! Very scenic and allowed for many stops for picture taking. Stopped at an unusual cemetary but I only wished we were informed that there was a waterfall at the top which only a few persons got to see. Skagway was beautiful and a great alternative tour to the train ride at half the cost! I had no regrets about my choice for this tour.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience on this excursion. Our tour guide, Connor, was pleasant, informative and patient. We could not have asked for better weather. The temperature was comfortable, and the sky was clear and blue. We made several stops along the way, which gave us the opportunity to take pictures and really enjoy the sights. We had a memorable experience!

Very disappointing. The guide was very nice but we heard her entire lifes story and her families. A bit too much about her and should have been more about the area. I could care less where she went to school or grew up since it wasn't Alaska!_br/_ The gloomy, rainy day didn't help. _br/_ I have had better tour guides from Viator!

I would recommend this tour for any and everyone.

Our tour guide was Brooke. She was fantastic, funny and informative and never ran out of stories. I liked the smaller bus, it felt more personal. Our group had people from three different cruise ships, but the way that our guide worked, we felt we were all there together as a group, not just tourists.

our bus driver/tour guide Conner was full of great information. the bus tour was much better than a rail tour because Conner stopped at different places and allowed for photo opts. one of the guests spied a bear on the side of the road and Conner made a U-turn to allow us to all see the Cinnamon bear and take pics.

Our excursion was great and our tour guide Jessica was awesome! My family of seven fell in love with Skagway and all the beautiful scenery. Did I mention that our guide was awesome? Jessica was extremely knowledgable, entertaining, and funny and made the tour even better. This was by far the best excursion on our Alaska cruise.

We had a wonderful time on our tour. Our guide was not only knowledgeable but very friendly and willing to answer all of our questions. When we saw the bear he stopped and waited for as long as we all wanted to get good pictures! He even played with the kids in the snow. We all had a great time and I recommended this tour to my sister who is coming up next week! Thanks for hiring great drivers!!

J.J. was Great!!! She was so knowledgeable and friendly. She was willing to stop anywhere if we asked. She stopped so we could get pictures of a baby bear that was eating by the side of the road. She was so friendly and took pictures for everyone so they could have a picture of themselves by the Alaska sign even though she was freezing because she forgot her coat. We really enjoyed this tour because of her. Thanks J.J.!!!

I booked this excursion as my mom had been to Skagway before and loved it but had not seen the White Pass Summit. This was my first time to Skagway so had not seen either and was looking forward to it. Thanks to JJ for making it great!_br/_ We were impressed with Frontier Excursions and Adventures from the start and JJ made us feel valued and comfortable. She clearly loves Skagway and her job and wants everyone else to enjoy Skagway as much as she does. _br/_ We know time did not permit but had it done we would have loved to have seen and learned more of the town in the town.
