White Pass Deluxe Tour from Skagway

Skagway, United States of America

Join a 3-hour highlights tour of Skagway with a knowledgeable guide. Hear stories from the Gold Rush and see amazing waterfalls, azure glaciers and mountain views that seem to never end. Visit the Gold Rush Cemetery and a sub-arctic Alpine valley called Tormented Valley, where everything is dwarfed and distorted. Travel in comfort aboard a 24-passenger mini-bus with bucket seats and large windows, perfect for sightseeing along the way. Bring your passport.

Begin your tour with convenient pickup from the docks or a designated meeting place. See downtown Skagway, a quaint city comprised of 6.5-blocks. Go to the Gold Rush Cemetery. Hear tales of Soapy Smith and Frank Reed from your knowledgeable guide. Head up the mountain with stops at various overlooks, such as Trail of 98, Frazier Valley and Bridal Vail Falls. Bring a bottle to get glacier water. Look for goats and bears at Moore Bridge. Stop at the Welcome to Alaska sign and city overlook for great photos.

Prepare to go through U.S. Customs on the way down the mountain. Remember to bring your passport. Return to your original departure point at the end of the tour.

On our Alaska cruise we did this tour to check out inland at this port... was really informative and we saw some amazing scenery! a really good way to see the sights, especially if you are on a budget.

The White Pass Deluxe Tour from Skagway was amazing!!! The scenery was breathtaking but what made the experience even more memorable was the tour guide. He was not only very knowledgeable but also friendly and very engaged with his audience. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to spend a day exploring the beauty and history of Skagway.

This was a great tour. It was the best value when compared to the cruise ship tours. About a third the cost of what the cruise ship offered. Joe our tour guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable and made several stops for pictures. He kept us entertained with stories of the gold rush and the history

Our tour guide on this one was a guy called Joe who has been a guide for many years, he gave a great commentary and stories all along the tour and stopped for loads of photo opportunities making sure everyone got group photos which he would take for you. This was one of the cheaper tours we did along our cruise up through Alaska, but possibly the best one.

There was only the weather that spoilt this trip as it was very misty and raining all day. Other than the weather the trip was great shame we didn't get to see the true scenery. Tour guide was good too and very knowledgeable.

We had an amazing time on this tour. Jack, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable, courteous and excited about Alaska and her history. He definitely went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our tour and made the most of our time. He also offered to stop at various photo op sites and took several pictures of our group. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for a personal small group experience. Be sure to request Jack!

Our tour guide Joe made our trip to Skagway even on a very rainy day so interesting and special. Joe showed us the sights of Skagway, the old cemetery and the White Pass along with other stops. We learned fascinating facts about plants and their uses, survival tips, and stories of the history and people of Skagway. Joe clearly loves his job, Skagway and the environment. He was helpful, informative and humorous. There were six of us in our group and we all loved the tour with Joe.

After an initial bit of confusion on a very crowded dock we met up with Joe our tour driver/guide,from_br/_ then on the day ran smoothly. Joe was a fountain of knowledge on all aspects of our tour and often injected_br/_ moments of humour. There were many points of interest where Joe pulled over so that we could take photos._br/_ We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and i even felt safe on the winding mountain roads which_br/_ i usually dread. I would thoroughly recommend this tour.

Enjoyable tour from a very knowledgeable guide we think he was called Jim . A tour of the town and original settlers' graveyard was accompanied by a historical narrative. Then we went up the Pass towards White Horse where the scenery was breathtaking. Thank you

Our ship docked in Haines then we took the FastFerry to Skagway for this tour. We had received word directly from this company that they would pick us up right at the dock and they did! Our driver was from Boston and did a wonderful job of sharing some personal stories of how he adapted to Alaska and his tour guide job. Two years ago I took the train up to White Pass and it was a great trip, but I so enjoyed the flexibility of the van on this tour! We could stop and leisurely take pics instead of missing snap shots from sitting on the wrong side of train. We then had a choice to be delivered back downtown Skagway for a walking tour or back to dock. Excellent, professional company!

Fun fast trip showing quite a few sites. We had driven into Skagway from Whitehorse so a couple of sites we had already seen on the drive in. It was nice tho to take more time to get pictures. You will see a few glaciers from a great distance. The guide was not able to tell us the name of a glacier that I pointed to. I think it would be beneficial to be able to name glaciers and know a little bit about them. We had Eric who was incredibly hilarious and fun to have as our guide.

This trip was very enjoyable, our minibus driver picked us up from town centre._br/_ We then made our way to the cemetery where he gave us all the info on Soapy Joe and the Read fellow_br/_ His ongoing commentary was very good, lots of information._br/_ He took us to the Alaska border, where we stood in line and took everyone s photo with their own cameras._br/_ At one point he came to a sudden stop, told us a mother bear and her cubs were crossing the road_br/_ Unfortunately we were at the back of the mini bus and everyone stood up, I only saw them disappear down into the Forrest, so no photos._br/_ He stopped at several viewing points, all the while giving commentary._br/_ This trip was very good_br/_ Highly recommended

This tour is an excellent value. Our driver and guide was Boston Joe and he was very knowledgeable about the area and told us stories about the gold rush days and threw in personal anecdotes. It was as if a fun relative was giving you a tour. He is the best! He even took photos for people and read us one of his poems. I wish I had a copy of his poem Raven Knows. There were stops at the old cemetery, Liarsville, the summit and a bathroom break just beyond the summit where we turned around. Also stops just above Skagway for a nice view of the town, and others for picture taking and breath-taking views. Bathrooms and a gift shop are also available at Liarsville. Panning for gold was an activity you could have at Liarsville for I think 5 extra when you made the reservations.

This was an educating and interesting excursion. It wasn't as remarkable or memorable as the other excursions I took, but it was historical and informative. It also rained that day and we got soaked, so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it as much as the others.

Our driver/guide was Boston Joe. Joe knew so much history of the area. At the Gold Rush Cemetery we walked among the old grave stones and a fairly easy climb up the mountain to see Bridal Vail Falls, it was worth the walk. Scenery was beautiful on the way into Canada and back. Joe was a joy with all his knowledge and funny stories and poetry. Loved it.

Forget those overpriced shore excursions the cruise ship is constantly selling. This tour is an excellent experience and an excellent value. Billy customized the tour and we had the best time. It was informative, beautiful and a lot of fun. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

This was an excellent way to see the White Pass! Our driver, John, was awesome! Very knowledgeable. I liked that we had time to stop, explore and take pictures. We talked with others who took the train through the White Pass, they wished they had taken this excursion instead! A wonderful, wonderful adventure! Thank you!

We cancelled a cruise line tour and booked this one with Viator and saved almost 100. We got off to a rocky start as Joe read us the rules. no talking to me, no talking to each other, I need to tell you and show you a lot of things and can't do that with 20 people talking and asking questions. So just sat back and listened as the trip enlightened us to the many wonders of Skagway and Alaska. Lot's of local facts that only a tour guide would know. Amazing vistas, and short hiking adventures. He even pulled over and stop to ensure we saw the steam locomotive puffing and chugging up the mountain pass. Well worth it.

Nice tour. Several stops to take pictures. Beautiful scenery. Tour driver is homeland security so going into Canada and back is a breeze. Just tell where you are from and that's it. Stopped at Welcome to Alaska sign for pictures. We did gold panning. Don't expect nuggets. It's all about the experience. Just a quick stop in Liarsville. Driver will drop off afterwards in Skagway and your on your own to shop and get back to the ship. Walkable, but you can also take a City Bus back to ship for 2/pp. Worth it, since it was cold and windy that day and would have been brutal to walk. Preferred this over the train since you get to stop for pictures.

This tour was disappointing. While we appreciated the small, promised group, there appeared to be a lack of enthusiasm on the part of our guide. And the only reason we stopped at the gold panning site is because I took out my tour details and read them and asked about it. He said, Oh, you booked that? So we stopped for a rushed 5 minutes for a very uninspiring and uninformative experience. This tour was not up to Viator standards. Sorry.

A good trip, Joe our driver has lots of interesting stories to tell about the gold rush. Although we didn't see any wildlife as the cloud base was low the scenery was fantastic. Well worth doing.

The driver was very colorful and knowledgeable, the scenery was wonderful, the price was great, and the group was small. It parallels the course of the train, stops frequently for pictures, and is about a quarter of the price. Even though it was rainy/misty the whole time not unusual and we couldn't see much at several of the overlooks, it was still a fabulous tour.

The tour was great - went through the city up to the summit - lots of stops along the _br/_ way for pictures. In my opinion, much better than the train as you get to stop and takes pictures _br/_ and get a city tour included.

We LOVED this tour. We've been on the White Pass train before and it's gorgeous but we wanted something more active -- we liked the fact that you're in a small tour bus with only about a dozen people, that you'll get in and out a few times, and have the chance to talk to the guide, ask questions, etc. And it didn't hurt that this option is MUCH less expensive than the train. The scenery was spectacular we even saw the train snaking along the mountain and the stories were very entertaining. In two places those who wanted to went on a small, easy hike. Our guide Jack was fantastic. Toward the end we stopped at an overlook with gorgeous views of the ships in port. The only bad part was that two people on our tour did not bring their passports and so the guide was unable to take us into Canada ... I can only imagine the beautiful scenery we missed out on. Please, folks, if you do go on this tour, remember to bring your passports to get the whole experience!

Great value with guide who tried hard to add interest, no bears or wild life but he really gave us a feel for life in the gold rush and getting over a ton of equipment over White pass, it really made you feel Jack London's book the Call of the wild. Also the tale of Soapy Smith at the grave yard, and beautiful scenery

We went on this tour in July of 2016. We did this tour on our own when our cruise docked in Skagway. We walked around the town before we met for our tour. Joe I believe his name was was fantastic! He was the best tour guide that we had hands down. He was an older gentleman, I can't remember his name. He knew so much about Skagway, all of our stops and had some fun mementos that he passed around, from working in Skagway over the years. We would recommend this tour and our guide. Even though it was misty, windy and overcast, we still had some gorgeous photos from the excursion.
