Naples City and Pompeii Half-Day Sightseeing Tour from Sorrento

Sorrento, Italy

See southern Italy's highlights in one day on a combined Naples city tour and visit to the world-famous site of Pompeii. This guided tour is the best way to experience the lively city of Naples and visit Pompeii, the largest archaeological site in Europe, on a single day trip from Sorrento.

Your comprehensive guided tour of Naples includes stops at the Cathedral to visit its Treasure Chapel and S.Restituta basilica, dating back to the 4th century. You'll also drive to Plebiscite Square to see the Royal Palace, the beautiful church of St Francesco di Paula, the Town Hall Square and the New Castle built by the French Family of Anjou. Before driving to Pompeii, you'll admire wonderful views of the picturesque baroque city of Naples from the terraces of Posillipo.

Next, your visit to the haunting ruins of Pompeii will take you back to the fateful day in 79 A.D. when neighboring Mt. Vesuvius erupted, covering the prosperous Roman city in deadly volcanic ash.

On your visit to Pompeii you'll be able to explore the fascinating site, expertly led by your tour guide. You'll see the Forum, the Thermal Baths, Vetti's House and the "Lupanare" brothel, all buried by volcanic ashes during the eruption. Before returning to Sorrento, you'll have approximately 30 minutes to spend at leisure in Pompeii - a great opportunity to shop, enjoy lunch or simply relax!

Our guide Elise was fantastic in every respect. She was extremely knowledgeable, spoke clearly and at a speed that was easy to follow even for my husband who is a little hard of hearing. She was also funny and knew all kinds of interesting facts, not just limited to Naples and Pompeii, which truly added to the great experience. We spent 2 weeks and Italy taking several tours and this was our absolute favorite. We are retired and have travel extensively. I can easily say, Elise was one of the best tour guides we ever had.

Our guide Laura was so knoldegable about Milan and Pompeii that we were very grateful. The information wad so interesting and delivered with such humor that we all thoroughly enjoyed the day. The history lesson was fascinating and enjoyable..I only regret the size of the group was so large. More than 50.

Our tour guide, Elisa, was excellent - very knowledgeable and provided the information in an interesting way mixed with humour. The tours were well organised and we saw all the important landmarks.

We really enjoyed the tour and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Only bad experience we had was with people who had no respect for the artifacts.

Loved this! Such a great overview of Napoli and Pompeii. Our tour began with a driver - Paulo picking us up from our hotel in Castallamare. He was so kind, and even since we hadn't had the opportunity to pull our euros for our trip yet, he kindly paid our bill for coffee and pastries when the store wouldn't take our card. Then we met up with our actual tour guide, Maria, who was INCREDIBLY knowledgeable about the history of Napoli Naples and took us through some important sites, including a church with the oldest basilica, Napoli Cappella di Santa Restituta and the Royal Palace. She was such a vivid story-teller when guiding us through the sites, it was like taking a walk back in time.

Our tour guide Elisa was very knowledgeable and friendly, but the Naples tour was a waste of time. We only saw inside a church and drove around the city pointing out what we could not see. The city of Naples is dirty and overcrowded. Then we went to Pompei, again that was interesting because of the history. In my opinion, once you see the first section then they all look alike. Very repetitive!_br/_ I would never go back to either place.

The Naples part of this tour was interesting, however I felt that I learnt more interesting things about Pompeii in history at school and didn't learn anything new on this tour. However my partner who hadn't learnt about Pompeii at school did find the tour very interesting.

This tour starts with a tour of the main church in Naples. Then you have a quick drive around the city which gives you the basic layout of the central city. The tour of Pompeii was very knowledgeable. Toilet break given at start of tour was not long enough. 10 minutes does not give enough time to walk to where the toilets are and then send in queue for ones turn. I had 7 people ahead of me and the line was slow to move. As we only had 10 minutes to locate where the bathroom was, stand in line, use the facility and then walk back to meeting place, I had to go back without using the facility or would have been left behind_br/_ The tour of Pompeii is worth doing but try to do it in cool weather. There is no shade and it can be very hot.

Naples part of the tour was a little disappointing. Long journey in traffic from Sorrento to Naples and then not much chance to explore when we were there.

Excellent tour, would have liked more time in Naples and Pompeii but when you are on a tight schedule its hard to fit everything in, if we had more time I would have visited them separately, but we had a great time...

Naples. we got picked up from our hotel early just to wait in Naples. Our tour guide Elise was so sweet funny and totally real. she gave us good information as well as dining tips in Sorrento! which we ended up going to. shout out to Ristorante Donna Sofia. we then did Pompeii with another guide which was fascinating to finally see. the only thing I would say would be to add 15 minutes at the end of Pompeii to use the restroom, buy a snack etc. They sort of rushed us to the bus. Other than that, def should do this tour.

Loved being picked up at our hotel. Wonderful guides...informative,patient, even in the pouring rain. Not sure how they keep such great attitudes...but it is very much appreciated.

this tour seemed to be rushed. We didn't have time to enjoy ourselves. We left our house at about 7 am and didn't get back till mid afternoon with barely a bathroom break No lunch break at all.

A good trip, our Guide was very good but unfortunately I can't recall his name. He was very informative both in Naples and Pompeii and I would recommend this trip

Naples was a big disappointment, not many places to see and once we got to Pompei many more people joined us for our tour and it was very hard to follow our guide and get photos. We went on many tours in Italy and this one just did not meet our expectations.

Really enjoyed the Pompeii portion of this trip. Our guide was great and really gave you a feel for how they lived then - his energy level was great and clearly he was very knowledgeable. It was a lot of the fun. The Naples portion was just ok. Glad to go because we hadn't seen it before and there were a few things that were worth seeing. But if I was to go back...I would definitely go back to Pompeii - not so much to Naples.

This trip is certainly worthwhile if you have never been to Naples or Pompeii. The tour guide was a wealth of knowledge on Naples and Pompeii. I would strongly recommend this tour.

Pompeii was the highlight for me. Until you go there, it is hard to understand the scale of what you see. Not the best place to walk around in the hot sun but I would love to go back and have more time. I would have preferred to have started earlier in Pompeii and had more time.

We had separate guides for Naples and Pompeii, both were very knowledgeable and keen to provide plenty of information. A very worthwhile experience.

Guide Andrea was great, but we only stopped at 2 places in Naples, and not much information on the ride thru town. When we did get out at the few destinations, our guide was extremely informative and you could tell very passionate about the history of his country. The Pompeii visit was a definite highlight of the tour.

Bummer that traffic slowed things down, but overall this is a great way to hit a few highlights in Naples, see Pompei and then get back to Sorrento in time to enjoy the late afternoon and have a nice dinner. Definitely a must.

We had the best time on the Naples/Pompeii tour with Viator. Andrew was an excellent guide and very well informed about Naples and Pompeii. We had such a fun time. We will remember Pompeii forever as Andrew brought it alive with his speaking tour!!! Our van driver and hotel pickup driver were the best drivers ever. thank you so much. We will recommend this tour to all our friends and to anyone wishing to visit Naples and Pompeii.

Love love loved this tour, Tuscany is picture postcard perfect wherever you look. The visit to the vineyard for lunch was terrific and the wines tasted top class! Montepulciano and Pienza were quaint medieval towns that was very pleasant to stroll around. This is a long day but the coach was comfortable and the guides always factor in "comfort stops "

The Naples visit was a little on the short side, although The Basilca St Genaro was interesting and Pompeii was very very good and most important the guide Andrea I think his name is, he was very good in giving interesting information

Skip the Naples City part.....there are much cooler and cleaner parts of Italy. This tour IS NOT half-day. We weren't finished and allowed to eat lunch until after 2pm. The Pompeii tour was great and the perfect tour if you wanted to see it, learn a lot, and are short on time.

Hotel pick up was great, however we missed hotel breakfast which started after our pick up. Our guide was great lots of fun we got great photos. There was no time allocated to lunch or souvenir shopping and only one hurried toilet stop (not everyone got to go) which reduced the enjoyment

I would strongly suggest either eliminating the Naples part of the tour or changing the naples part of the tour to include the museum in naples where all the artifacts, etc. from pompeii are housed. The rest of naples with the exception of the church, was not worth going to and wasted a lot of time.

The Naples part of this tour was not that interesting but Pompeii certainly was. The tour leader had a good knowledge of the facts of Pompeii. Perhaps the group could have been better organised because there were English and Spanish speaking people in the group so the leader had to say everything twice. It is a long day out from Sorrento even though it says Half Day. We were picked up from our hotel at 7.15am and it was 3.30 before we returned. Don't plan anything else for the day if you choose to do this tour.

I loved Pompeii. To think so many people lived there ! Our guide was very pleasant. I was not so impressed with Naples, but the church we saw and the views were wonderful. I would not go to Naples without a guide, but with a guide, great!

If you're staying in Naples, then it's ok. If you're staying in Sorrento, then be prepared for a very tiring day. It's a 1-hour drive to Naples and then 3 minutes to Pompeii where you will spend most of the tour. Still, Pompeii was fantastic! Very, very interesting and worthwhile. Our tour guide was helpful and informative. However, she was not good at controlling her group. First they took us to a store where they sell corallo products and told us to have a look around. Some people left, others shopped so in the end we got lost and missed valuable time getting all gathered up again. Anyway, Pompeeii was really interesting. As far as Naples, we only had the chance to get in the Duomo. It would have been nice to get inside the Palazzo Reale and in some other sights. It was a good tour but very expensive and overpriced for what we got.

Good tour, guides knew their history. Could have spent longer in Pompeii ie could have been an extra half day. History in Naples an eye opener and very interesting.
