Grenada Island Tour: Concord Waterfall, Gouyave Nutmeg Station and Grand Etang Lake

St George's, Grenada

See the highlights of Grenada on a day tour that takes you nearly all the way around the island, stopping at both natural and historical attractions. Swim at the base of Concord Waterfall, visit the Gouyave Nutmeg Processing Station, visit the Diamond Chocolate Factory, tour the 18th-century River Antoine Rum Distillery and admire the rainforest setting of Grand Etang Lake. Lunch, coach transport and a friendly local guide are all included.

After hotel pickup by coach, head to the first stop on your day tour of Grenada — Concord Waterfall. Located about 12.5 miles (20 km) north of St George’s on Grenada’s west coast, Concord is the first in a series of three waterfalls and the only one in the series that is accessible without hiking there.

When you arrive, cool off with a dip in the clear, chilly pool of water at the bottom of the falls, or just take time to enjoy the peaceful rainforest surroundings if you don’t want to get wet. Then hop back in your coach to drive through the fishing village of Gouyave, where you’ll visit the Gouyave Nutmeg Processing Station, one of the island’s largest sites for processing nutmeg, the spice for which Grenada — the Isle of Spice — is most famous.

Continue your day tour to the Diamond Chocolate Factory. You'll enjoy a tour of the gardens, see how the cocoa grows and ferments and take a tour of the factory floor. Here you can look through the glass partition and see the machines process the chocolate. Then head to a local restaurant for lunch, allowing yourself to relax for about 45 minutes before the second half of your tour.

After lunch, your next stop is the River Antoine Rum Distillery on Grenada’s northeast coast, in the parish of St Patrick. The oldest functioning water-powered distillery in the Caribbean, River Antoine opened in the late 1700s and continues to produce its strong rum — available only in Grenada — using the same old-fashioned methods. After a 15-minute distillery tour, enjoy a sample of the potent liquor.

Finally, head southwest, passing through the town of Grenville, to your last stop, Grand Etang Lake in Grand Etang National Park. Sitting pretty amid Grenada’s rainforest-filled interior, the crater lake is a beautiful spot to end your tour of a beautiful island. You have a few minutes here to take pictures and admire the lush vegetation surrounding the lake.

Your day tour then ends with hotel drop-off.

I thought booking online before we left for Grenada was a great idea. I couldn't find any excursions through the Air Canada site and a friend recommended Viator. Once at the hotel, I find that the same excursion is 30 US cheaper even though it was the same tour operator, St. James Travel and Tour. It was acknowledged that I had prebooked and that we would be on the same tour as the guests that were booking through the Air Canada rep. Along comes Monday morning, we find that the tour is overbooked and the driver is trying to remedy the situation with the office. Their first suggestion is that my husband and I get off the bus and take the tour on the Wednesday. We didn't agree saying we had booked first and didn't feel that this was a suitable answer especially with no compensation being offered. In the end, everyone stayed on the bus with one guest agreeing to ride in the jump seat. The tour was worthwhile and it was enjoyable. Lunch seemed to be organized chaos refills on the buffet were not very timely. Michael, our guide and driver was very informative.

We couldn’t have asked for a better tour or tour guide. Michael was personable and knowledgeable (and an amazing driver!) We saw all of the “must sees” and so much more! A true whole island tour.

Our guide, Dexter, was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the history and culture of Grenada. All the tour stops were interesting. I particularly enjoyed the rum distillery which was quite in depth and followed by a rum tasting session. Lunch was an authentic Grenadian meal - the best we had anywhere

The day tour of the island was very nice. It is so peaceful there. I especially liked seeing the old rum distillery. It was amazing to learn the process of making the rum and oh so strong of a rum. WOW! It beats Puerto Rico's 151. The Grand Etang Lake was so serene. I enjoyed seeing how they come to make chocolate. The samples were very delicious. Stopped at a nice place for a luncheon buffet. The food was tasty. It was so quiet at the waterfall and the nutmeg station was interesting. The only thing I didn't like were the narrow winding mountain roads. The driver did an excellent job navigating. Thanks for a nice day!

Dexter was totally amazing! He told us everything about Grenada that we hadn't known from our last visit. He assisted me in and out of his bus all day due to disabilities. The tour was wonderful and I was able to walk the short distances in to the nutmeg, rum and chocolate plants. This tour was everything I had hoped for and more! We love Grenada and hope to be back again. Do a tour with Dexter!

Dexter did a nice job. He was very informative, accommodating, and a good driver, which one must be to navigate Grenada's often tricky and daunting road system. Dexter is your man!

Dexter did an amazing job of giving us a tour and the history of Grenada! It was a jam packed day filled with lots of sites and information! Pick up and drop off at our hotel was great! Although we were very satisfied with our tour and felt it was a good value for what we paid, we had two major issues. Full disclosure-we had a very rainy day for our tour which slowed things down so that may have contributed to our issues. The first issue was that my husband really wanted to go for a swim at the waterfall. Although it is featured as an activity, when we stopped, Dexter asked if anyone wanted to, but then didn't really check for responses just said meet in 20 minutes which was not long enough to hit the bathroom, walk to the waterfall, take pix and take a swim, and make it back in time to the van. The second issue was that my husband also wanted to see the Carib Leap Memorial. Although Dexter gave us the history while sitting at the distillery waiting for the rain to let up, we never saw this site...even from the van...let alone got out. We did see a chocolate factory which was not in our tour description which was interesting and tasty, but we really missed out on the two items which were featured, but not delivered. Again, due to the weather and some special requests to see some plants/trees by two of our passengers, our tour ran an hour long as it was, but if there was time to accommodate these ladies, shouldn't there have been time to do/see what was to be included in the tour? Generally, we love and book Viator tours because they deliver what they promise for a reasonable rate. This tour fell somewhat short.

This tour was great and i would recommend to everybody who is travelling to Grenada to take the Island Tour. Our guide named Sewyn Victor was excellent and very well informed, aside from being a great driver. All places visited were excellent, particularly lunch at the Beatmont Estate.

Chosen for its accessibility, this is not the most spectacilar fall, but a pleasant visit nonetheless.

A perfect day out. The people of Grenada are some of the nicest in the Caribbean. It is also one of the nicest islands and this gives you a great look at day to day life as well as scenery. One of our best trips from 6 weeks in the Caribbean
