St Thomas Shore Excursion: Shopping, Sightseeing and Beach Tour

St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands

When you’re in port in St Thomas, enjoy its beautiful vistas, duty-free shopping and pristine beaches on this sightseeing shore excursion. Hop on a music-filled taxi safari and let your energetic tour guide show you the best of St Thomas. Shop for souvenirs in Charlotte Amalie. Enjoy a spectacular view of popular Magens Bay and other Virgin Islands from Mountain Top. Finish your shore excursion by relaxing on a sandy white beach (optional upgrade). A choice of three tour times allows you flexibility in port.

When you disembark from your cruise ship, your energetic tour guide will welcome you with a warm smile and bring you to the heart of St Thomas at Charlotte Amalie. Hundreds of duty-free shops line the streets of Charlotte Amalie, and you’ll be free to browse and stock up on souvenirs. Depending on your selected departure time, you'll enjoy either 3-, 2- or 1-hour of shopping. Amble down Main Street and the waterfront to find unique local goods and great deals on jewelry, clothing and electronics. Try some local delicacies at a nearby restaurant before you head out on your safari taxi for some St Thomas sightseeing. Be ready to sing along to lively music as you make your way to your first destination.

At noon, meet up with the rest of the tour from the 2 other departure times to begin your adventure. First up is the summit of Mountain Top, at 1,547 feet (471 meters) above sea level. On the drive up, you’ll make various stops to capture the breathtaking views. Your guide will provide you with the history and culture of St Thomas, and at each stop, you’ll hear expert commentary of the key places of interest. You’ll get fantastic views overlooking Blackbeard’s Castle, a real pirate tower, and the surrounding isles of the US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands. From Mountain Top, you’ll see Magens Bay and its glorious beach, one of the top-rated in the world.

You can finish your shore excursion at the end of your sightseeing tour, or upgrade to include a trip to the St Thomas beach of your choice. Choose from Sapphire Beach, Magens Bay or Coki Point Beach, and spend the rest of your time in port swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving or simply relaxing on the smooth white sand.

Out driver was excellent. Efficient and courteous. And most important one heck of a driver. The roads are perilous particularly going up the mountains. Our driver handled it all with ease. We had just the right amount of time in all out stops. Got a great overview of St. Thomas. I would highly recommend this excursion. My mom was using a walker and had mobility issues, our driver was very courteous and helpful to mom. I cant thank him enough.

Had an amazing time on this tour. Sunny Liston was at the port waiting for us to board the open side safari type truck was was great for view as we climb the mountain top. Lots of singing and dancing in our seats. The cruisers on this tour was friendly and fun as sunny gave information on the island

I went on this tour with Sunny Liston on Feb 14 2018, andI liked this tour but felt it was rushed. I had specifically chosen the 10am timeslot departure to get 2 hours of shopping in downtown Charlotte Ameilia of St Thomas, however , we only had an hour to shop. There were 3 timeslot departures to choose from depending on how much time you wanted to shop. We also visited Mountain top which had amazing scenes and we had like 20 minutes there to shop at the huge gift shop and get a banana daquiri. Again, I wish we had more time at Mountain Top as well. When booking this tour I thought they would stop at each of the 3 beaches mentioned Magen's Bay, Coki beach, Sapphire beach so we could choose which one we wanted to go to and then they would pick us up at whichever beach we had chosen. On my tour we ended up at Magen's Bay since majority wanted to go there. It was a very nice beach, but would've liked to have had a stop at each beach so we could pick the one we wanted to visit. I just felt the tour description is a bit misleading. We got to see the popular tourist attractions which were all very nice but felt this tour was fast-paced and would've been nice it was slower paced with more time to spend at the various stops. However, we did get 2 hours at Magen's Bay which I felt was sufficient amount of time to relax and enjoy this beautiful beach.

We enjoyed our shopping and tour of St. Thomas. Our guide was very energetic and full of songs and stories. The shopping was about 40 minutes and could have been longer as other ships had docked too. We would recommend this tour. We did not go to the beach.

My wife and I really enjoyed this excursion to St. Thomas. Our tour guide was born and raised on the island and was friendly, and new all about everything on the island. He didn't give his real name, only said to call him Dr. Taxi Love! He made the tour full of fun and even sang songs to us. A-one tour. Best we've been on! Thanks, Dr. Taxi Love

This tour started off badly. We met our guide at the designated place and then was taken to the tour bus where he told us he would take us to town for shopping. I advised that I did not choose the shopping tour-- just the sightseeing. So....he moved us to another bus where we sat in the parking lot for about 15 minutes before being driven into the heart of town. Once there we were told to exit that bus and wait for another that would be there in about 20 minutes. We started to explore and then the bus arrived about 5 minutes after we were dropped off. What was all this for? We were now back on the bus that we started with.....30 minutes of our tour time gone for nothing. Once on our way, the tour could have done with a little more commentary. The tour did takes us to the top of the mountain but during our 'climb' up the mountain road there was no comments from the driver until we got up to the observation deck. We did see a lot of destruction due to Hurricane Irma but on the whole the beauty of the island remains. We made three stops and I felt very rushed at all of them. More time to take in the views and take photos would have been nice....even 5 minutes more at each location. Twice I was shopping the local fare and had to grab and rush off as the bus was ready to leave. Overall the tour was acceptable and we saw a lot but there is room for improvement.

This was a mediocre trip and one that can be accomplished by just renting a cab outside the terminal. The driver was very nice and tried to be entertaining. The sight seeing tour consisted of two stops that we just ok. The beach was nice, but very packed. It was disappointing to witness the driver just using one hand or elbow while driving around very sharp turns as he had a microphone in one hand and was maneuvering cds and paperwork with the other. Safety should always be 1!

Tour guide Sunny was very helpful in educating us about the highland. Start of tour was boring with the shopping experience that was not up to par compared to the other islands. The ride up the hills to view the scenery was amazing from the Mountain Top Shop. The banana rum drink is a bit overrated. Don't waist your almost 11 for this cup of drink. We decided to visit Sapphire beach instead of Magen's Bay just because it is free.

I hate to give a negative review because of something that is out of the tour company's hands, like the weather, so I gave this a middle of the road rating. Here's a breakdown of how out tour went:_br/_ When we got to St. Thomas, it took us a little bit to find our tour guide Elvis, but once we did, he was polite and professional. We were going to buy water but he told us there was no need because he would give us all of the complimentary water we'd like. This was really nice and a money saver._br/_ Our first stop was shopping in Little Switzerland. It would have been nice to have been given some advice or direction for shopping, but he just dropped us off on a street between a local vendor flea market type place, and the more high end stores and told us to go shop, and meet me back here in an hour and a half._br/_ Our next stop was the Mountain Top where you get a view of much of the island and the other surrounding US Virgin Islands. The problem here was that on the way to the Mountain Top, it started pouring rain. When we got to the Mountain Top, you couldn't see anything from the view point so there wasn't much more to do than walk around the shop which was still about 50 closed off due to hurricane damage, and have a banana daiquiri which are a little over priced, but I do recommend them._br/_ From there we went to Magens Bay. By this time the rain had mostly stopped, but I'm not sure if it was because we were behind schedule, or it's just how it is, but we only had about 20 minutes there, so it ended up being more like a bathroom break than anything._br/_ My wife and I had paid the extra 10 per person for some beach time, which was supposed to be out next stop, but it had started raining again, so we didn't get to do this either._br/_ Our next stop was supposed to be back to the cruise terminal, but since my wife and I hadn't been able to make our beach stop, Elvis offered to drop us off for more shopping and said he'd return to pick us up later on. We agreed to do this and took the time having a great lunch at the Greenhouse Restaurant and Bar, and some drinks at a bar right across the parking lot. We returned to the meeting point at the time we agreed to, and a co-worker or Elvis' was there to pick us up and drop us off at the cruise terminal._br/_ All-in-all, I'd say most of the negatives that came out of the tour were related to the bad weather. Elvis was friendly and professional, but could have been a little more informative about St. Thomas during the drives as we heard many of the tour guides were that were driving right along side us for most of the day. It's good to see St. Thomas making progress in recovering after the massive destruction from the hurricanes!

The tour was great. There was a lot for you to see and Taxi Love was a lot of fun. The only reason I didn't rate this a 5 was because you are given a choice of one of two beaches and majority rules. The group on my tour chose Magens Bay and that beach was ENTIRELY too crowded! The food was too expensive and that's after paying the entrance fee. It definitely wasn't the beach I would have chosen but I was just one person in a tour of 25 people. Other than that, I had a great time.

Although this tour had a lot to offer, it just missed the mark on what could have been so much more amazing. First of all, the shopping part of the tour is way too long 3 hrs outside in the hot sun! A half hour would have been sufficient. Every other shop is a jewelry store with the owners of the stores lining the streets trying to get you to shop at their store. The mountain top was the highlight for me with a beautiful, breathtaking view of Magen's Bay! We enjoyed a delicious banana daiquiri here as this is home of the original banana daiquiri. It did not disappoint however the bartender was not at all engaging and down right rude! Now if you want to shop, this is where to do it. They have everything and it's nice and cool inside. The 3 hours would have been better spent here!! We spent our beach time on Sapphire Beach which is free as opposed to Magen's Bay which is 5 because that's what most of the people in our group voted for. No one wanted to pay that extra 5 I guess we were outvoted. Needless to say Sapphire Beach was beautiful and we enjoyed swimming and sun bathing as well as delicious cheeseburgers at the restaurant there. It was quite pricey though. 36 for 2 burgers with chips, 2 cups of ice we had sodas from the tour, and my daughter ordered a fruit plate which was an unpeeled orange on a plate! I must say our tour guide could have made this trip so much more entertaining but just didn't! I don't even remember his name! We saw the other tour buses from the same company having so much fun enjoying drinks, singing, and laughing. I was jealous. Guess our guide had done this one too many times and just wasn't into it any longer. Would try another company next time or hope you get a better guide.

An excellent tour with Sonny Liston Tours and Sonny was at the designated pick up point at the port on time. Sonny was a very friendly and fun guide, with great knowledge of the islands. The tour was in an open sided safari type bus and not to big a vehicle, so had great views and able to go to places where big buses couldn't. eg. Up the mountain to get great views of the islands and beaches. Lots of opportunities to take photographs and to do some shopping downtown in the numerous jewellers. No rushing and returned to the port in adequate time.

Elvis picked us up on time at the cruise port and we were load into an open party bus. He is very knowledgeable about the history of the island, and drove us to some places with great views of the island and good shopping. The beach visit was very nice, but I wish I had had more information about the tour, so that I would have brought my snorkeling equipment. The ride back to the ship was lots of fun with singing some Bob Marley and others.

We had a really good time with Sunny! He had great energy and had everyone singing the entire time. I recommend signing up for the tour with the most shopping time, as we aren't big shoppers but still found plenty of interesting sites to see during our three hours in Charlotte Amalie. We passed up on Magens Bay to go to Coki Point Beach for better snorkeling, but I wish we wouldn't have. Coki Point ended up being very crowded with locals some of whom were pretty rude and pushy. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely take this tour again!

Picked up the safari like vehicle at the port and were dropped off at a flea market being told to look for Elvis with a different company at 11:30...we weren't told where the regular shops were but we found them on our own around the corner down the street. At 11:30 we were put on the wrong vehicle by a man with their company who said he was Elvis, then the woman who brought us out in the first place was driving and told us we had to get off, walk back and wait again for the real Elvis?! Once the proper guy showed up about 15 min late, he took us on a really rough ride up the mountain, then dropped us off halfway up and told us to take pics while he went back down to get some more people?! We all felt uneasy with this. He returned 20 min later with no new people, then loaded us up to continue up the mountain for the best views. These vehicles are open air and you MUST hold on tight the way they drive so fast around the mountain corners on the bumpy roads so as not to fall out....not much sightseeing if that's what you're looking for....the mountaintop and the add on of Magen's Bay were really all you saw. Afterwards, we then went to Magen's Bay an added cost upgrade to the tour to swim for a couple of hours another 5 pp entry fee also-bathhouses/restrooms, but didn't see any chair/umbrella rentals...although you many get lucky to find a picnic table under a tree if it's not too crowded.... This beach was GORGEOUS! I've never seen clearer, calmer waters. Upon pick up we were taken ALMOST back to the cruise port-the driver said he wasn't allowed to take us any closer 5 min walk to ship although we all watched him drive to the dock after we got out...smh. I enjoyed the couple of stops, but I was disappointed with the disorganization and the dangerous driving and felt that it wasn't truly as portrayed in the description.

Once we found the tour group, things were pretty good. On our day in port, there were several other large ships there as well, and no one was waiting outside of our ship to greet us. After wandering around for a few minutes, I finally called the phone number listed on the tour voucher and I was told where to go a 5 minute walk from the ship. The shopping portion of the tour was a bit of a joke, however. We were given less than 30 minutes to explore downtown before needing to come back to the vehicle to continue on. The tour itself was great. Our guide was friendly, and knowledgeable about the area. I never felt unsafe for myself or my family including a 4 year old and 9 month old. The beach was beautiful, if a little crowded. I would recommend this tour for anyone with not much time to spare in St Thomas, looking to hit all the high points in a safe and fun, albeit rushed, 5-6 hour day.

Absolutely the worst shore excursion trip I have ever been on. First, the driver was late and took us about one mile to a shopping area where we were told we had 2 1/2 hours for shopping. I paid for an island tour not a shopping spree. When we finally got going the driver played some very loud music that he attempted to sing along with. During the entire trip he never once pointed out any particular sites or historical facts. This guy should be fired. I'll never book another Viator trip.

We had a great time with the Sunny Liston Tours. Our ship got in 2 hours later than what was posted on our itinerary, plus our ship wasn't able to pull into the pier because another ship was already there so we had to be tendered over. We never dreamed our tour guide would be there when we got off but HE WAS! Great job keeping watch over his reserved guests. We enjoyed the day!

we paid to have a stop at the beach, but that never happened. there was so much time allowing us to shop, which was not what we wanted. we wanted time at the beach, but because the ship was leaving at 2:30 so they said, but they should have known prior, this never was part of the tour. Only the people on Carnival got to go to the beach. Why did we pay for something that we never got?_br/_ it was all very confusing as to which vehicle we were using and then they made all kinds of ridiculous stops to pick-up water, and then to see the view. Both of these took way too much time as everyone said.....

Sunny was fantastic! We had a great time on the party bus! Sunny was knowledgeable and fun._br/_ I would have rather just had an hour at the beach, but ....it was a fun day seeing the island and taking a swim at the beach._br/_ Sunny had soda and water on the back of the bus for us throughout the day._br/_ It was easy to find Sunny at the pier and he got us back to the ship in plenty of time. It was clear that he has a lot of experience with this tour and knows exactly how long it will take. He was always on time or early for everything. It was a nice day.

We enjoyed the entertaining antics of our tour operator. A quick stop to shop at beginning. Then we were off, a couple of stops to view the Caribbean and Atlantic sides of St Thomas with time to purchase typical tourist stuff. We were then advised the next stop would be the beach for the afternoon. This was an additional 5.00 fee not explained on the voucher or the website. Would have preferred a more leisurely pace with more highlights of what we were passing on the way. It was our first visit and next time I would seek out a sightseeing tour without the beach.

This tour was good but I think it was more suitable for a younger crowd. The tour bus was open air which was great but they played loud music the whole trip and pumped the breaks on the bus going up and down the hills to the beat of the music which wasn't necessary. We saw beautiful scenery and stopped for some fantastic photos St Thomas port, Meghans Bay, etc. and eventually we ended up at a nice beach Sapphire Beach but the shopping was nothing special...touristy areas. By the way, we barely made it back to our ship before it sailed for the next port....everyone was a little stressed!

Argh, to begin with, after writing a full, lengthy review for Viator, then signing in so it could get posted, it disappeared into the web which doesn't incent me to write another. If this tour had not been so bad, I wouldn't bother but others should know to at least be given the opportunity to decide whether or not they'll use Sonny Liston Tours. Viator contracts with Sonny Liston Tours and we've had great fortune with Viator, so months ago, we made reservations for this tour. We exited our ship, sat where the taxi driver directed us to for Sonny Liston and waited, waited, waited. No Sonny Liston buses went by and no Sonny Liston drivers appeared looking for passengers. As we were becoming totally exasperated, a FULL Sonny Liston bus came by exiting the port. Because he had to slow down for a speed bump, we ran out, flagged him down and told him we were supposed to be on their tour. They questioned this and made us show our paperwork, which I had in my hand, then reluctantly told us we could board. Where was our next question? Turns out, one of us had to find room in the bus portion and we other two had to ride in the cab. They assured us we would all be together as soon as we got to Charlotte Amalie. Imagine our surprise when we got to Charlotte Amalie where we 1 had to get off the bus, 2 discovered there were THREE buses with cruise passengers, and 3 had to wait at least a half hour for what we still don't know. Anyway, already hot and thirsty, the three buses finally got ready to board and again, once the large parties were seated, we had NO seats. Turns out, one of our party had to ride in the cab of one bus and another two had to ride in the cab of a second bus. Wow, some family tour!! The drivers assured us that they would work it out, they had overbooked at the last minute and that was out problem how??? and by the first stop they would find seats for us altogether. That DID NOT happen, and we were not happy campers. Add to this overcast, rainy weather, Sonny Liston NOT being at the top of his game so his presentations were lackluster, and us no longer wanting to be on this tour, all the makings of a bad tour. We did not get to tour together until well around the island at Sapphire Beach where many of the tour group got off to stay at the beach. By this time all we wanted to do was get back to town and off the tour. Sapphire Beach was a disappointment because the buildings there are downright depressing shabby and one place open. Beautiful condos in front but then this dismal beachfront presentation. The beach itself is narrow and I'll just leave it at I've been to better. Sad when the little strip of shops fronting the cruise ship ports becomes way more appealing than our shore excursion, especially when you have to pay for the excursion and you can CHOOSE to pay for things you might buy in the shops. It was really just an expensive taxi ride around the island.

They delivered what was described on the tour. However, I was not satisfied with some aspects:_br/_ 1. The driver will pick you up at the port and drive you to the stores. On the way there, he picked up random people charging them 2 to take them to downtown. This resulted in us paying customers being very uncomfortable in the ride. I did not think it was fair.

I really didn't learn that much about the island or the people. I learned a lot about shopping centers and where restaurants were but information that might have been interesting was not to be had. We stopped at a couple of tourist places on our way up the mountain_br/_ and stopped at a super tourist place at the top. Honestly, though, the best part of the tour was the homemade banana daiquiri_br/_ at the top of the mountain. And the downtown St. Thomas shopping area was just one jewelry store after another. Who could tell if there were really good deals or not. Maybe if we had a guide who told us something meaningful about the island than we would have had a better time. Definitely I do not recommend this tour

But he BLARED the music and he SANG ALONG to the music the ENTIRE time. Very very annoying. He never told us anything about the history or the sites we would see. We only saw 1 view fromthe Mountain Top and then he dropped us off everywhere else with no instruction. _br/_ This was Sonny Liston Tours. Usualy Viator is great but this time was a miss.

This tour was absolutely horrible. It took an hour before it left the port. We had to wait on open air bus for an hour in the extreme heat while the driver tried locating everyone on the tour. Very disorganized. The tour narrative was terrible too. I learned hardly nothing from the tour guide. My mother who was with me the tour guide provided no assistance to help her get on and off the bus. When I was wheeling my mom in her wheelchair sunny Liston told me wow your getting muscles. I thought that was awfully rude. He never even offered assistance. I couldn't wait for the tour to be finally over. And we were not the only ones. One lady said when we arrived she said thanks me the J. Would definitely not recommend this tour!

We were supposed to leave on the tour at 11:30am, but the guide made us go as soon as we got off the ship 10:30am. The guide was very nice, but very loud. If you sat near the front, got a headache from the loud speaker he was yelling through. If you sat in the back, you got sick due to the way the bus bounces during the very fast speed, sudden turns and stops. There was a lot of sightseeing while on the go, but very little stop time. Finally at the end of the tour, we did get 2 hours at Megan's Bay where we could unwind from the unpleasant drive. Megan's Bay was beautiful, but I'm not sure how it got rated in the top 10 of all beaches in the world as proclaimed. The beach was very crowded and cost 5 to go in, which was odd. And it cost us 28 for 4 slices of pizza and one bottle of water. The tour did deliver though on their guarantee to get us back to the ship before it left us. We did get to see a lot in a very short amount of time, which was good, but it just seemed like too fast paced and way too loud.

Maybe not what you were expecting, but so much fun! Sunny Liston is over the top with his entertaining nature. If you want the Caribbean experience this is the tour for you.

This tour was the worst. The transportation was old and tattered they moved several of us who booked with viator to older equipment that was very difficult to get in and out. We had to wait for another van at each stop for another guide to describe what we should see. JUST TERRIBLE

We had an awesome time, singing and laughing the whole tour.

Unfortunately we did not enjoy this tour. We could have done without the singing which was off key and did not see many sites. The bus was very, very bumpy. Would not take this tour again.

It was easy to find the tour representative once we disembarked from the ship. The guide took us around and stopped at various vantage points but he didn't give a whole lot of information about St. Thomas along the way. He played and sang along to loud music during most of the trip which I found annoying but my traveling companion thought it was delightful. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. We did get to go to Mountain Top which has a breathtaking view and at that time the guide did give us quite a bit of information about the area and what we were seeing.
