Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves Motorcoach Day Tour

Sydney, Australia

Enjoy a trip through the scenic Blue Mountains and admire the otherworldly beauty of the Jenolan Caves on a day tour from Sydney. Pass through the mountain township of Katoomba and take in panoramic views of the Three Sisters pinnacles at Echo Point. See the stalactites and dramatically lit chambers of the Jenolan Caves, and photograph the stunning waters of the Blue Lake. Alternatively, you can add the optional Plughole Tour to delve deeper into the subterranean world of the Jenolan Caves. Abseil into Elder Cave, squeeze through chambers and crawl through cavities on an adventure experience you’ll never forget!

After being picked up from your selected Sydney hotels, sit back and relax as you enjoy a scenic coach trip from central Sydney to the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park.

As you wind your way through the national park, your tour takes you through the Blue Mountains' biggest town, Katoomba, with its century-old guesthouses and charming shops and cafes.

Continue on to Echo Point, one of the region's best vantage points. Take in stunning views of the dramatic canyons and rocky cliffs, over the Megalong Valley to the photogenic pinnacles of the Three Sisters.

Your tour also takes you along the ridge-top Cliff Drive, with more stunning views over the Blue Mountains and valleys as you travel to the amazing Jenolan Caves. Here, take a guided tour through the oldest open cave system in the world, stretching underground for more than 25 miles (40 kilometers). Admire the dramatic lighting in this subterranean world of underground rivers and floodlit limestone stalactite sculptures, and visit Jenolan's largest cave, Lucas Cave, where concerts are held in the acoustically perfect Cathedral chamber. At certain times of the year, the tour might take you to the equally impressive Imperial Cave instead of Lucas Cave.

Choose the option to include the Plughole Adventure Tour*, and add an exciting two-hour abseiling and caving experience. After dressing in overalls, harness, a helmet and headlamp, receive a safety briefing before your thrilling 30-foot (9-meter) abseil into Elder Cave.

Whether you're an abseiling novice or expert, Elder Cave will astound you with its chambers and sinkholes. Squeeze through increasingly longer chambers, including the Window and Crystal chambers. Relax in the open space of the Chapel, try the Armchair Squeeze and Letterbox Squeeze, then follow the S-bend through the Imperial Cave and into the daylight.

Leaving the Jenolan Caves on your return drive to Sydney, stop to admire the beautiful Blue Lake, whose mineral-rich waters take on an incredibly blue hue in the sunlight. At the end of your Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves day trip, be dropped off at selected Sydney hotels in the late afternoon.

*Please Note - if you choose the Plughole Adventure Tour, you forego the guided cave tour.

The cave itself was so amazing. It was so worthy of visiting such wonderful nature site. The drive was very safe thanks to the skillful driver, Ben did all the safe driving for all those twists and turns on the mountain roads.

The ride was long but the Blue Mountains were just beautiful. My husband and I were the only couple who took up the Jenolan Caves tour in the group so we split up but Scotty and Belinda were AWESOME. They were great instructors, and really made the tour fun. It also helped that the group doing the cave exploration with us were all pretty fun too. Be ready to get dirty and let loose!

It was an interesting tour. The caves were amazing. Roland, our driver and guide was doing a great job, provided wonderful nuggets of information and gave us an insight. Same for Alan, our guide to the mountains. The videos played on our journey gave us interesting information on Australia.

Arranged months ago thru internet and was pleased I was on the list when the bus arrived. Because my hotel was not on the pick up locations list I was advised to go to a hotel a few train stops from my hotel. Pick up time was 7:15. I arrived at 7:00 as the directions said arrive 15 minutes early...met a fellow traveler and we waited together. At 7:20 she called the tour company and was told few more minutes, bus arrived around 7:40. Why tell us to be there at 7 when bus arrives 40 minutes late. We then stopped at other pick up locations. We arrived at the first stop a small town where the driver suggested we get our lunches. There was a fridge at the back of the bus and I am really glad I got sandwiches....after another stop at 3 sisters we were on our way to the caves. Driver had hoped to get us there by 12:15 to 12:30 it was 12:55 when we pulled up. I was doing the optional plug hole and they were suiting up when I arrived. Tour started at 1:00. It was a lot of fun. Enjoyed it very much. An incredible experience. Got back on the bus at 3:20 and ate my lunch. Thankful I had picked it up at the first stop...driver was very good. Very professional lots of information. Had us back to Sydney in good time...I know drop offs are arranged by ease of location but why are last on first off? My day was almost 12 hours long from 7 to 7... was told after the fact there was a pick up at a hotel 5 minutes from mine...not on the list but is a pick up spot...wished I had known that when I was getting the 6:30 train that morning...it was still a good day.

This tour is great if you want to get out of the city. The caves were really good, quite large. The driver stopped at a couple of locations on the way for photos, and for people to pick up lunch. The drive was long and the tour took all day.

I would have given it 5 stars except for the stop at Blue Mountains. The entire Blue Mountains 'experience' probably lasted all of 10 minutes. Our driver allowed us 20 minutes to be back at the bus. Between walking to and from the viewpoint and stopping at the restroom, no more than 10 minutes was left to look around and take pictures! In contrast, there was ample time to look around before the caves tour. The bus driver/tour guide was very professional in his handling of the group and giving us commentaries about the sights. The title of this tour should have been 'Jenolan Caves Motorcoach Day Tour with a 10-Minute Stop at the Blue Mountains Echo Point Lookout.'

Don't take this trip if you truly want to see the Blue Mountains - essentially, you'll only get to one tiny little spot where you could watch the Three Sisters, and even then, only for half an hour max. Biggest culprit I guess is the time it takes to get to the other half of the package deal, namely the Jenolan caves - essentially 3-4 hour each way!

Having only a limited time in Sydney this was the perfect way to see the Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves. Well informed and friendly driver. We were longer in the coach than anticipated but this was due to being the first pick up and also a Bank Holiday so lots of traffic. Would recommend this trip.

Amazing caves, worth the drive. When I booked it said add on the adventure tour crawling in the cave but when I arrived it was an either or. So I never got to see the big cave tour, disappointing I did not get to the see the big caves after 6 hours on the bus. The adventure cave tour was fun and interesting but should be a supplement to the big caves.

Wonderfull destinations compressed in one day tour. Good guide with plenty of knowledge and enlightening the bus strip. Once you come up the blue mountains you understand that to really appreciate this place you need more time than what is given you on a compressed tour like this.

Disappointing. First of all, be aware that out of the 10-11h of the tour you will be in the bus for 6-7h, or longer if you are stuck in the Sydney rush hour on the way back. The stop at the 3 Sisters was about 30min, just enough time to take photos. And our guide told us Get something for lunch here since you will not have time for a lunch break at the caves. I booked the abseiling tour for a few more._br/_ For this money I expected a more relaxed day that this includes also the typical Jenolan cave tour. Unfortunately this is not the case- you do the abseiling and crawling through one of the non-touristic caves for 2h, that is it. It was interesting and believe me- sometimes I was cursing due to the narrow holes we crawled through. All in all a fun experience, but if you came for taking nice colorful photos of the caves, you'll be disappointed. The last 10min we rushed thru one of the touristic caves, and instead of switching the color lights on and giving us time to enjoy the view, it was like lights on here is the other cave... lights off 20 seconds later, and rushing to the exit. I would not do it again. Better try to make a 2-day tour and enjoy the Blue Mountains and the Jenolan Caves.

Tour was good.. both the places are beautiful and combo tour doesn't allow to enjoy. We don't have time for scenic railway and sky walk in this tour. It requires whole day, and journey from Blue Mountain to jenolan caves is almost 1.5hrs. Jenolan caves are beautiful and huge. This tour is recommended for those who are time constraint trip. This is an express tour to both the places. Tour guide Ben was good and friendly. He drives pretty smoothly in narrow road

Great day, in spite of the weather. We we shown some amazing views over the Jamieson Valley, including of course, the Three Sisters. Our driver was informative and charming._br/_ We were treated to some incredible sights as we wandered through the cave...amazing to think of the age of this spectacle and the fact that it is still evolving._br/_ So glad we made the trip. It was worth it!

A long coach journey. Views of Blue Mountains spectacular but would have liked to do more exploring perhaps with a cable car ride. Jenolan Caves were well worth the extra trip with fantastic formations to see. Despite the large group in the caves it was well done and memorable. Then long drive back.

It was a long way to go for 2 stops to see the mountains for a few minutes, but the caves were really nice. Also, we couldn't understand half of what our driver/guide was saying and what we could understand rarely made much sense.

The caves were amazing! I took the upgrade to Plughole adventure and I loved the more adventurous tour. I would recommend it, but remember there will be tight spaces. This tour is more focused on the caves and is only making a stop in the Blue Mountains for about an hour. Unfortunately, the caves are on the far side of the Blue Mountains so about 3 hours each way is spend driving. Bring some music or book for the bus.

Great memories, as this was a birthday present for my mum, she was so excited about the caves and so relieved that we had the option to choose a smaller number of stairs between the caves, as she has arthritis. very happy with the tour and the driver was very friendly and informative, his name was David :-)

I totally enjoyed Danny as our guide. He set clear rules to ensure the needs of all group members will be met, i.e. there were times where some inconsiderate group members played video loudly or spoke louder than him while he was sharing information of the places of interest, he always ensured the noises were lowered so that people who were interested to hear him would not be disturbed.

My knees are bad they did not mention in your add that there over 900 hundred steps in your cave tour so while we are riding in the bus the driver mentions that if you have a physical problem heart or physical problem let him know The rest of the ride was stressful because I thought I had paid all this money and was not going to be able to see a cave but there are several caves one for an hour that I was able to see I also saw a platypus swimming in the wild very exciting it is a long day over 10 hours but if you are prepared for the cold and have good knees worth the money and the time
