Opera Performance at the Sydney Opera House
Sydney, Australia
Spend an afternoon or evening at the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Sydney Opera House for an amazing performance by Opera Australia. This 2017 season includes legendary operas by Mozart, Puccini and Verdi, as well as one Broadway musical by Cole Porter. Before or after the performance, enjoy drinks at the Opera House bar, where you can admire stunning views of Sydney Harbour (drinks at own expense).
The 2017 opera season promises to exceed all expectations as new stars join favorites from previous seasons to transport audiences to another world. Whether you’re an opera aficionado or just looking to add something special to your Sydney vacation, a performance at the Sydney Opera House — a UNESCO World Heritage site — isn't any old night at the opera!
Performances take place in the Opera Theatre. With seating for 1,547 people, the theater is the Sydney Opera House’s second-largest venue. All operas are performed in their original languages (mostly Italian); English subtitles are projected onto a screen above the stage.
Bars inside the Sydney Opera House open one hour prior to performance time — arrive early to enjoy a pre-theater drink (own expense) and admire the unbeatable views of Sydney Harbour and the Harbour Bridge.
See the Itinerary section below for details about the operas scheduled for the 2016 and 2017 season.
I had booked to see Carmen at the Sydney Opera house together with friends. I paid a fortune for the tickets but as it was the other side of the world thought it would be worth it. On collection of the tickets I was initially told they had no booking but then they found them, only it wasn't for Carmen but The Nose. All my emails from Viator just said 4 adults for Sydney Opera. I had to call to check that the seats were together as that wasn't stated. I booked to see Carmen but instead got to see the biggest load of rubbish I have ever seen OK some of the dancing was good but there was just to virtuosity in the singing. ULTRA disappointed and feel robbed. I would have walked out if I'd been on my own.

Fantastic evening and wonderful performance, picked our tickets up earlier as we were walking past, and they were available already

Oh the Sydney Opera House is beautiful. Fabulous seats and the very best Carmen we ever saw. After the show, a fireworks show and the Harbour Bridge was RED. A special evening.

Enjoyed the opera very much. Getting the tickets in exchange for the voucher went smoothly except that there was only one box office agent working when the large group of 50 or so of our cruise mates all arrived together and so we had quite a wait until other box office staff arrived - then it went very quickly. Seats were in the premium quality range that we had requested and well located in the theatre.

Good performance but disappointed that this was in a playhouse which is a small stage. I was under the impression that it was in the main Opera house. So we ended up NOT seeing the inside of the actual opera house!

I was a little disappointed to find out that this opera was on sale and I could have bought my ticket cheaper directly at the opera house. _br/_ The singers were pretty good but it and #39;s not a full blown opera with major change in decoration.

shows is great, but the details didn't say it's not performed in the big opera house, just a small theater inside. Performance was fun and delighted, but not much cost savings.

I saw an operetta in the small theatre. I purchased the more expensive seat in the center, but because the theatre is so small, I wish I had saved money and purchased a seat to the side of center where I still would have had a great view.

The Sydney Opera House of course was the 1 item on our Bucket List and it did not disappoint. We were signed up for the Two Weddings, One Bride showing at 7:30pm in the evening and it was an excellent production. The acoustics and audio were world class. Of course now I have rights to say I have seen an operaoperetta in the Sydney Opera House. Very cool.

Finally got to go inside the Sydney Opera House. The opera presented two sets of famous arias and the singers were wonderful. Very enjoyable evening.

This is a Sydney must do experience. We loved the fact that it was different music from many different operas. It was our first time to see an opera and the piano player served as a narrator. He set the stage for each song to help us know how the character was feeling. We were absolutely shocked and delighted to be in row C. Definitely go early to have a drink in the open bar area. It was a perfect night.

How many people can say that their first opera was at the Sydney Opera House?! What an amazing thrill to not only see the inside, but to experience La Traviata in Sydney. The seats were excellent, the voices were beautiful and the Opera House is architecturally beautiful on the inside as it is from the outside! Excellent experience!

Great tour what a site it's fantastic loved it lots of walking but worth it
Review by: Kurt S, February 2017
I bought the cheap seats, but they put us in the second row off-center. No one in front of us. The opera was spectacular from that vantage. Easy purchase. Very satisfied.

The concert at the Opera House was the highlight of our trip to Sydney. It was good to be able to book tickets in advance through Viator because, with our living in Britain , we would have found it difficult to buy them from here.

We absolutely loved it! I wish we would have been able to see a full performance opera but the Classical hits we saw were amazing and so fun to be able to see it in the famous Sydney Opera House. We sat up in the balcony and I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. Just so people know the ticket office is kind of in the middle of the building so you need to go up quite a few stairs. I did find it a little odd that they were still selling drinks to people 5 minutes before the performance began so we were quite late starting with people coming in late. But this doesn't change my view on the whole experience. Unforgettable!

The performance of My Fair Lady at the Sydney Opera House was fabulous! The seats were quite close to the stage and were nicely centered in that row. We could see and hear the performance very well. It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip to Australia and New Zealand. Some of my fellow travelers bought tickets to the same performance and not only paid more for their seats than we did but the seats were not as good as ours. Well done Viator!

Review by: Dorothy H, January 2017
I signed up for an EVENING performance at the Sydney Opera House. I did not see the little 5PM on it as on page 2 it said 7:00 and 7:30. Were to pick up the tickets and hour earlier. Did that and found out that we had to be there for 5. Don't know how 5:00 became evening? We were there and there was no one to contact, so we paid for another set of tickets at the cost of 138. We were not going to miss the opera. It was wonderful and I would do it again. It was disappointing that this happened.

Ship was going before I could get back from seeing the play so lost out on this tour as well as ticket.
Review by: Isobel G, November 2016
The show 'My Fair Lady' was great. The staff were very nice and helpful although I was unhappy with the seat that I was allocated. Viator information advised that the seat would be in the circle however My ticket was for a restricted view within the stalls.....not what I expected for 67.

It was a treat to watch My Fair Lady which was directed by Julie Andrews. The opera house was fabulous. I am not so sure about the accommodations for handicapped people. We were just able to pick up the tickets 1 hour before the show at the ticket booth. The tickets were prepared with our name. It was a great price.
