Led by a professional zoo keeper, you'll learn all about Australian animals as you meet them face-to-face at Sydney Taronga Zoo.
Taronga Zoo is one of Sydney’s top attractions and is loved by locals and tourists alike. Located on the magnificent harbor, just 12 minutes by ferry with views of iconic landmarks this is truly a zoo with a view!
Arrive at the zoo and take the Sky Safari gondola to the top entrance. Fly above the Zoo as it skims the canopy of the Asian rainforest inhabited by Taronga's orangutans and glide across the mysterious riverscape of AGL Amazonia, home to the Zoo's South American animals.
Meet your zoo keeper and start your in-depth Wild Australia Experience that will bring you close to the animals and where you will learn about the work of the zoo keepers. Learn about the unique Australian animals and how they are cared for at the zoo, go behind the scenes into restricted access areas, see how the food is prepared in the 'animal kitchen,' and help feed the wallabies and kangaroos.
You will get to enter the Australian bushland and the underground world of the endangered Southern hairy-nosed wombat, discover the mysteries of the platypus, and explore the nocturnal house for a close encounter with the normally shy and elusive wildlife which only venture out at night.
At the end of your tour you'll be served a light snack at Harbourview Cafe and receive a souvenir gift.
Admission to Taronga Zoo is included so you are free to spend the day exploring the many exhibits and shows before and after your tour. Join the regularly scheduled keeper talks to learn more about Taronga Zoo's wide variety of animals.
This was a great experience. We were in a small group of 6 with our guide and got a unique behind-the-scenes tour. This really makes a difference for visiting the zoo, and will give you access to experiences and animals others don't get. We got to feed and pet wallabies, an echidna, a feather flider, and take photos up close with the koalas. You don't get to touch or hold the koalas on this experience, so a good supplement to this tour is the koala experience at featherdale wildlife park, where you can pet koalas. Highly recommend this add-on to anyone visiting the Taronga Zoo.

This was the highlight of our trip! Well worth the price! The backstage tour was awesome. Getting close to the animals and actually feeding and touching a few of them was priceless. Our guide was actually a zookeeper, and this made the tour way more enjoyable. I would do this again!

The zoo was amazing. Absolute favorite was the koala bears but we payed extra with them saying we could hold a koala bear written on their website by paying more which we did but were told we couldn't do that and they hadn't done that in 15 years? So I also saw on facebook someone else traveled to Australia - not sure where - but there they are holding a koala bear. So very disappointed in that cuz that was one of our highlights for taking this trip. But the zoo was good and we had a great time. I'd give it a 5 if we would have gotten what we paid for.

Our guide was great! She was so knowledgeable and you could tell she loved her job. All the animals had names.This tour was fantastic! Once we walked around the area where the kangaroos and wallaby were we actually got to go inside the koala enclosure and were within inches of the koalas. It was so hard not to touch them....they were so cute. We also had hands on time with a feather-tail gliding squirrel and enchidna. The tour also included a behind the scenes tour of the kitchen and what the animals eat. It was a wonderful day. The zoo is located across the bay from the Opera House so you must that a ferry to get there. Once there you can take the cable car up to the top and the entrance and it goes over the zoo on the way up. The animals are on display for easy viewing.

This tour was well done. We had a short time in Sydney so this visit allowed us to do a backstage tour and entry to the Zoo. The Zoo is small but very well done. The tour guide was knowledgeable and gave lots of insider tips. The Ferry system was easy to use.

My sister and I did this tour with three other adults and two children. Our zookeeper guide was excellent. The small group, behind the scenes experiences, and the expertise of the zookeeper were terrific. It was an Australian experience that left you plenty of time to see other parts of the zoo. I would definitely recommend this tour.

The only way to see Sydney Taronga Zoo! Behind the scenes tour was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Will never forget feeding peanuts to Earl the kangaroo or being inside the koala enclosure. Just two of our special memories! Be sure to book early, as they limit the number of participants. We were in Sydney during the New Year's Eve timeframe and booked back in August.

The private tour experience was highlight of my trip to Sydney. My friend and I were only ones on our tour so it was very private. We got to have up close encounters with many animals. Got great pictures. The keeper who took us on tour was great. Highly recommend this tour. Worth every penny.

I was amazed to discover this beautiful zoo just a quick ferry ride from Circular Quay. When you get off the boat, you are transported up over the zoo to the entrance in the air...wow! There is so much to see and so many interesting people to talk with at every enclosure. Is is obvious how dedicated these people are and the animals look healthy and happy. I wa blessed to spend two hours ALONE maximum of 8 in a group but I lucked out with zookeeper Natalie as part of the Wild Australia Experience. She was wonderful. She showed me all around the Australian section where I fed wallabies, an echidna, a feather tail glider, a wombat, koalas, and Tasmanian devils. She also brought me into the kitchen where meals are prepared to ensure animals get the nutritional best! I felt very at home with Natalie and answered all my questions and more! You must visit this zoo...it changed my opinion of them!

Wendy, a zoo keeper at Taronga, gave us an opportunity to meet and interact with some of her favorite nocturnal animals at the zoo. She gave an interesting overview of each animal and what makes them unique in the animal kingdom. A common theme noted with every zoo keeper presentation was a message of conservation and preservation--brilliant. Don't miss the Bird Show at the end of the day. It was a wonderful finale to a great day at a world class zoo!

This was one of my highlights in our visit to Sydney. It was so cool to go backstage. I must've taken a thousand photos of the sleepy koalas. We got to feed a wallaby and pet an echidna and just learn about what Taronga Zoo does. Would highly recommend!

The Wild Australia Experience makes the zoo worth while. This is the only way to get close to the animals, get all the information on preservation, nutrition, behavior etc. The koala encounter is amazing!! Highly recommended

My sister and I had a thrilling time in the zoo. Our guide Natalie on the 2pm tour on 10th November was just perfect in every way. Her love for the animals was extremely touching. With her knowledge of the species of Australia and her personal stories about the individual animals she looks after in the zoo she really fascinated us totally. Being Swiss we are barely used to any wild animals no wonder Natalie and her animals were one of the top highlights of our tour to fascinating Australia. We had a wonderful time at the Taronga Zoo. The Wild Australia Experience was a great treat. We got to go behind the scenes and see some of the animals up close and personal. We got to pet a kangaroo and go in the Koala pen. We held a glider and it was so fun. Worth the price!!! This tour was amazing! We got to go into several enclosures and into areas of the zoo that you would never have access to otherwise. We learned so much about the animals and saw some we had never heard of before. I would definitely recommend this if you are thinking about it.

This was an outstanding tour! Our zookeeper was full of fantastic information and it was evident that he truly loved his job working with the animals and sharing his knowledge with our small group. It's always fun to get to peek behind the scenes of any operation and this tour was no different. We learned all about wildlife indigenous to Australia and even got to hand-feed a wallaby personal highlight!. Then the rest of the day was ours to explore and enjoy the fantastic facilities. The only things I'd do differently would be to bring a hat the sun was a little stronger than I'd anticipated and to bring some snacks as I didn't really care for the refreshments available throughout the zoo. Regardless, the pygmy hippos, baby elephant and macropods were the highlights of the day for me, I'm recommending this tour to everyone!

My friends from the US and I flew to Sydney for the day from Melbourne they had limited time. They wanted to see the harbour and the Opera House and I saw this tour on Viator and thought it would be a great experience too. We were on the afternoon tour, so we had some time at Circular Quay/The Rocks before boarding a ferry. The gondola ride was a terrific experience, and we had time to have some lunch and see the giraffes best view of Sydney and the new baby elephant before our tour. Our guide, Brian met us at the information centre and we embarked on a two hour behind the scenes tour. There is a fair amount of walking, and some sections are quite hilly. My friends loved feeding the wallabies, up close with koalas and touching the echidnas. We were in the nocturnal house with the bilby and realised the public was looking at us on the other side of the glass. The tour was limited to eight guests and Brian was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We received a postcard magnet with photos of Aussie animals and had a cool drink in the café at the conclusion of the tour. One of the other guests had worked at the Cleveland Zoo USA and she was extremely impressed by Taronga Zoo and this particular tour.

This is probably the best zoo I have been to. Do not miss any opportunity to catch the harbor view from any given point within the zoo. We had an amazing tour guide, so engaging and fun. The day was beautifully paced and enjoyable. The giraffes have the best view of all. Take a chance on this zoo, you wont be disappointed.

The Wild Australia Experience is not to be missed if you want to get up close and learn about local wildlife. The guide was excellent and made sure the 6 of us on the tour were entertained. This would be especially nice for families with children.

This was a really fun tour. We loved visiting the hedgehog and holding the feather tail gliders. The little bilby's were gorgeous. And it was amazing to be so close to the koalas. I would suggest going for the morning tour. When we were done in the afternoon there was not much time left to see the zoo. I was a bit disappointed in the tour because I thought we were going to have the opportunity to take a photo with the koalas. The ones you buy from the zoo which I would of gladly paid that charge as well.
