This 3 day tour overall was a fantastic experience. We not only met some great people on the trip from around the world that we became friends with, but what we found to be exceptional was the logistics. All of the transportation and luggage handling from the moment we met our day 1 tour guide to the moment we checked out on day 3 was seamlessly handled and very professional. Along the way, every single train ride, taxi ride, or bus ride was accompanied by a uniform-wearing staff, so there is not one single moment where you felt lost or on your own. They even have someone wait for you as you exit a train to walk you to your next transfer train - for us that was at 10 PM on a Sunday night. Incredible! The sights were fantastic. While we were initially excited to see Mt Fuji, we found it to be mostly OK because it took a lot of driving and you end up only being at the fifth transfer station. So, you only see the top of Mt. Fuji, while the majority of your short 15 minute stop is spent battling tourists in what amounts to a gigantic bathroom and gift shop stop. We thoroughly enjoyed Nara and wish we had another hour to feed the deers that were on the ground. Kyoto was a great city - don't forget to check out Nashiki Market on your own, during free time. If I had one gripe, it's that much of the 3 days were spent travelling, whether on a bus or on a train. While that might be inevitable, I felt like the time spent a each stop was a little short. For example, some gift shop stops or shrine visits were only 10 or 15 minutes long. If you consider that the bus has to first park, and it takes a few minutes to get off the bus, you're only spending 7 or 8 minutes at a stop. Before you get to really get your footing or see anything, you're expected to be back on the bus. Maybe this is a universal downside to all group-style tours? Finally, for hotel choice, I would not recommend choosing the Karasuma Kyoto hotel if you don't like hot rooms. The location of the hotel was fantastic close to Ippudo, NIshiki Market, Tokyu Hands department store however, there is no air conditioning in the room. Each room has a switch that says low-medium-high, but there is not temperature adjustment. The entire hotel is set to one temperature, the front desk explained, and more likely than not it will be blowing hot air or some temperature not to your liking. In our 2 night stay, our room was so hot that I barely slept - it felt like I was in a humid sauna. We met another guest who had exactly the same comments about their room. Otherwise, this is a trip worth taking especially if it is your first visit to each of these locations. The tour certainly takes the thinking and planning out of your hands, and you are guided by some fantastic, nice, and knowledgeable tour guides!

This tour was more than I imagined. We had spectacular weather, beautiful cherry blossom viewing, and terrific information about Japan and its people. The Golden Palace and its beautiful grounds were a high point. Our guides and drivers were expert, and provided wonderful information. We enjoyed the tour tremendously and recommend it to anyone who wants an overview of these cultural treasures.

Sunrise Tours did a class job. We got pretty good pictures of Mt Full because our guide and driver worked together to optimize timing under the weather conditions. They treated us well with our bullet train trip to Kyoto.

A wonderful tour. The Tour company and guides were efficient, informative and entertaining. Shima, Mr. Yoshu and Tammy were wonderful. So much to see and do, and they left no stone unturned. I also loved the fact that we were met at every train station and taken to our hotel. One if the best tours I have been on! Japan is a definite must on the travel bucket list.

It is really a two day tour as there is nothing on the last day. The trip was well organized, tour guides wonderful, and really enjoyed all we did. Mt Fuji was a long drive, and we did not get to go up. The boat ride and tram were ok but could easily be skipped. Kyoto and Nara tours excellent.

If you like full guided and courteous guide, Japan tour is for you. This is end to end guided tour with the guides sharing lots of information about the place of visits while you are travelling. The weather did not permit us to go beong station1 but we manage to snap great photos of Mount Fuji from the bus along the way. The pick up at each Shikenzen station platform is great if you are new to Japan train system. The Hotel we stayed at was New Miyako Hotel just next to the Kyoto station and AEON mall. The room is spacious but the toilet was smelly like odor from the septic tank. If you are muslim, you should ask for seafood lunch on the day 1. We did ask for seafood lunch but was given vegetarian food. However, another muslim family got their seafood lunch. We are not happy with this lunch arrangement and was promised seafood lunch before hand. We are glad there is less tourist from China mainland this season. Else, do expect jumping que and getting their way through beyond your imagination.

It was a well organized tour with personal attention to the detail. Local guides showed up at every departure and transfer station and made sure we do not miss our trains. At Kyoto and Tokyo Stations local guide showed up at arrival platform, again and had each tourist taken to the right hotel by taxi cab. At Mt. Fuji 5th Station, we had only a glimpse of Mt. Fuji due to the fog and rain. After the cruise on Lake Ashi in Hakone, we took the gondola to the top of the mountain. Mt. Fuji was not visible from there, either because of the bad weather. In Kyoto we saw Nijo Castle, Imperial Palace, and Kinkakuji Temple. In the afternoon we went to Nara and visited Todaji Temple and Kashuga Takisha Shrine. On the the third day which was free day, my wife and I went to Arashiyama by subway and visited Bamboo Grove and Tenryuji Temple.

Sunrise Tours who provide this tour were extremely well-organised - down to the smallest detail. Every step of the way we were helped by guides to transfer between buses and trains and they all waited with us until departure. _br/_ Kyoto is a great place to visit and on our free day we had no problems getting around by train and visiting places not included on the tour. Would recommend to anyone who wants help travelling in a non-English speaking country - well worth the money.

My family went on the 3 day tour of Mt. Fuji, Kyoto and Nara from Tokyo. The New Miyako hotel was very nice and spacious room, we had a triple room. The American Buffet Breakfast was not worth the price. There was not enough variety such as omelette and pancake/waffle station. The hotel was safe and clean and across the street from the mall and Kyoto station with lots of dining options.

These people have their act together! At each juncture there was always an employee of the tour company to facilitate our travels. We were picked up at our hotel and taken to the bus station for our ride to Mt. Fuji. After a short visit there we went on to a fantastic lunch overlooking a lake. We had traditional Japanese food with an individual cooker for our noodle soup. From there we visited another mountain by cable car and then were taken to the bullet train station. The train itself was awesome! It is so quiet and fast and the ride is perfectly smooth with none of the clickity-clack of other trains. We had been told we could only bring small hand luggage on the train, but this proved not to be true. There is plenty of room for suitcases. Our train was met by more personnel who arranged taxis to take us to our hotels. On the second day we toured Kyoto by bus and visited the gorgeous Golden Pavilion, and the Emperor's palace and saw some of the city. Our lunch was somewhat disappointing after the previous day's feast. This was a buffet in a crafts center and consisted of a lot of overcooked fried food. After lunch we drove to Nara to the park filled with deer and saw the magnificent 65 foot tall Buddha. and the two smaller golden Buddhas. We also drove to see another temple in another area of the park. We were then taken back to Kyoto and left at our hotels. We were on our own until we had to be picked up for the bullet train to Tokyo the following evening. Taxis took us to the train station with our company rep and we were put on the train. In Tokyo we were again met by a company rep and taxis took us to our hotels again. This was our first trip to Japan, and we felt this excursion let us see a lot. Unfortunately Mt Fuji was not one of the things we saw, and the cable car ride just took us into clouds with no view of anything. If I had known ahead of time that the likelihood of seeing Fuji in August was only 10, I would not have booked this trip. The guides and personnel were all very good and I don't fault the tour company.

Great tour to see many things in a short amount of time. They really take care of you every step of the way someone to make sure you get to every location from start to finish. With these tours though the time you are allotted is short. At most you get 50 minutes in each location - that is for touring the place and free time for restroom/souvenir shopping. In some cases that just isn't enough time. We found the day at Mt. Fuji the hardest. We got up to the 5th station and had 20 minutes to look around. Since Mt Fuji wasn't visible that day it didn't matter that much, but it's still not enough time to make it worth the journey. So the first day of the tour is the only real negative part of the whole experience. The last day having free time was perfect for what we wanted. The staff are wonderful!!!

The first day of the tour consisted of Mt. Fuji, Lake Ashi cruise, and aquarium in Hakone. Due to the rain, we didn't see the Mt. Fuji from the 5th station. However, we were able to see Mt. Fuji when we were heading to Hakone and got some nice pictures of mountain from the bus. It was raining during the Lake Ashi cruise. Due to the rain, we didn't go on the Mt. Komagatake ropeway but visited an aquarium instead. The took the bullet train Shinkansen to Kyoto. There was tour attendants waiting for us at various stations to ensure that we had correct transfers. Another attendant also walked with us from the Kyoto station to New Miyako hotel. On the second day, we visited Nijo Castle, Kinkajuki Temple Golden Pavilion, and Imperial Palace in the morning. The tour guide was humorous and informative. He made funny jokes and kept us laughing throughout the tour. At Nijo Castle, we learned about the meanings of various paintings, customs, and practices during the Edo period. It was very crowded at the Golden Pavilion. There were many tourists and lines of students taking field trip. The Golden Pavilion is indeed iconic with its' magnificent gold exterior. In the afternoon, we went to Nara to see Todaiji temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine. The Todaiji temple is huge and the Buddha is 16 meters tall. Outside the temple is a park famous for roaming deers. The deers bow when people feed them crackers. Our kids spent a long time at this park petting and feeding the deers. The Taisha shrine is different from other shrines in that it has so many different lanterns in the gardens, and along the steps leading to the shrine. The Miyako hotel is very convenient due to its proximity to the train station. The station has a lot of shops and restaurants. On the third day, we were on our own and visited the Nishiki market and Fushimi Inari shrine. If we have a chance to visit the Fushimi Inari shrine again, we would go there early in the morning to avoid the crowd and to have enough time to walk through the vermilion gates leading up to the mountain. Each of the location has special and unique souvenirs and pastries/sweets. I recommend that you buy what you like at each sight because you may not find the same items near your hotel or at the airport.

Overall, it was an amazing tour and the Sunset Tour agency that ran it was very well organized and proficient. What I didn't know at the time of the booking is that 3-day tour really consisted of multiple tours stitched together. So it's not the same group of people that are on a 3-day tour, but rather a 1-day tour, following by a separate morning tour and then another afternoon tour, really 3 separate tours put together. The good thing about this approach was that there were no predetermined dates that the tour would be provided. We basically choose the dates that fit best in our schedule and the tour company just needed to fill 1 day tours or half day tours instead of trying to make everyone fit into a 3-day tour. So we were the only couple that did this 3-day tour starting on a particular day, but the tour company did a magnificent job in managing our experience. They made sure there was someone from the tour company meeting us in every train station and location that guided us to our next destination. There was even a guide that waited in a connection train station only to ensure we transferred to the right train and another one that met us at our destination and rode with us in a taxi to our hotel. The level of service was excellent.

This tour was like a well-oiled machine. At each point, you had a tour guide, even meeting you at the train station to get you on the right train to and from your destination from the bullet train to the railway. . There was no way we would have been able to maneuver our way around the bullet train station. I would have given a 5 but there was a 15 minute wait to be picked up by the car once we got back to Tokyo to be taken back to our hotel. Would recommend this to anyone on the fence about trying viator. Tour guide Yuki was the best tour guide with her sweet sense of humor and knowledge

Unfortunately the weather was not kind and we could not get to Mount Fuji. Also the pirate ship as advertised is not used on Lake Ashi on this tour. Spent a lot of time around shops to fill the time. The buffet lunch included was excellent for both vegetarians and meat eaters. The organization for the bullet train to Kyoto was second to none, we were really taken care of to make sure we didn't miss the connecting train. The hotel used in Kyoto was excellent and very central. Our only complaint is that the visit to the shrines and Nara is far too short as there were so many people around and a lot of time was taken up on queueing ect. All guides were informative and helpful with good English.

The first part of the tour was great even though we didn't get to go up Mount Fuji because of snow. It was an easy transition through everything and the food was great. Hiro was lovely!_br/_ However the room in our hotel was super hot and the second day was rather rushed in Kyoto especially since we started late. It seemed like we would have enough time in the beginning but at the golden pavilion if you want to stop to buy something or take a good picture ect it eats up so much of you time since the pathway is rather long. We ended up running back to the bus even though we had wanted to try some of the street food on our way out. _br/_ Nara was interesting and we got enough time there to look around and test things out.

Although the weather on our first day tour was terrible gusty wind and heavy rain that we did not get to see the MT. Fuji, however, our local travel company Sunrise made us feel safe and comfort for the entire trip. They made an excellent arrangement to ensure all of our transfers were smooth by assigning an agent at each checkpoint to take care of all details such as: walked us to the platform to wait for the train, arranged taxi to take us to train station / hotel, etc. We are very impressed by the services they provided. Thanks.

Highlights of taking Japan tours with Viator:_br/_ - You aren't stuck with the same people for the entire tour! They separated our 3 day tour into morning and afternoon sessions, each with people joining and leaving. That means we didn't have to put up with each other long enough to become familiar with each others' annoying habits. You know what I'm talking about if you've done overseas tours before. Not a great thing if you're touring alone because there isn't such a great sense of community._br/_ - Public transportation in Japan is NOT tourist friendly. We are pretty well versed with international subway/train/bus navigation but we would've been completely lost without this tour. It was amazing to literally have a staff member guide us through train stations to the very platform and correct train and have a staff member waiting directly outside of our train exit at our destination. Specifically for this 3-day tour, we had someone pick us up from the hotel in Tokyo on day 1, take us to a bus terminal where they had all their tourists separate into groups and get on correct tour buses. After the day-long tour the bus dropped us off at Tokyo station with someone who gave us our bullet train cards and walked us up to the correct platform and train car entrance. When we arrived in Kyoto there was someone who knew our names and seat numbers who met us at the platform and walked us into the lobby of our hotel If the hotel wasn't within walking distance they would have had a taxi ready for us. Day 2 we were picked up and dropped off at the hotel. Day 3 we spent on our own and at 6pm we met a Viator staff member in the lobby who walked us to the platform of the bullet train back to Tokyo. Again, someone met us at the exit of the train in Tokyo and walked us to a taxi they had waiting. It was already paid for and the driver knew where to take us. _br/_ -Recommendations: New Miyako hotel in Kyoto. Very nice, across the street from the train station, next to a mall with a food court, and walking distance from a 5 story pagoda and Toji temple for your day off. Tobu Tokyo Levant Hotel if you decide to go back to Tokyo after the tour. It's in the Asakusa district which has everything you want to see/do.

This was an amazing tour. Apparently Mt Fuji is usually shrouded in clouds, but December is the time to go. All the stops were great. The tour company had English speaking guides meet you at every change of venue. We went for the more expensive hotel and it was right across the street from Kyoto's street markets.

Loved! Mt. Fuji was in complete view and we were able to go to step 4. The tour guides are so knowledgeable and friendly. Our Nara tour guide was a Japanese girl who spoke perfect English. She was the sweetest and we could tell she loved her job. The deer in Nara were so fun to be around. Feeding them is definitely an experience you'll remember. Highly recommend this 3 day tour!

This was an excellent way to see a lot in a short space of time. The organisation was exceptional. At every stage of the journey we were met by Sunrise tour guides who made sure that we were well looked after. _br/_ The visit to Mount Fuji was wonderful. We were lucky to have such brilliant weather so we were able to catch glimpses of the mountain from just outside Tokyo. It was very busy when we arrived at the fifth station and very cold. The area was full of tourist shops but it was easy to turn your back on them and enjoy the beauty of the snow clad summit glistening in the sun. _br/_ Back down to ground level and we enjoyed a very good lunch of local food with a good vegetarian option too._br/_ On to Lake Ashi. The boat trip was really hardly worth the effort but it took us to the cable car station and, again, it was very crowded. But we were moved to the front in order to get to the top to enjoy the views before the sunset. Mount Fuji, the lake and out to the Pacific ocean....beautiful. _br/_ There were just three of us continuing to Kyoto on the bullet train and the journey involved a change with just 4 minutes to make our connection. This could have been quite a challenge but the organisation was perfect. We were accompanied to the first train and given numbered seats. At the transfer station another guide was waiting for us as we arrived and she took us to the next train. At Kyoto we were met by yet another guide who took us to a taxi to take us to the hotel. _br/_ The hotel was lovely with a big, comfortable room and very well situated with a Starbucks next door and a 7-11 just across the road._br/_ The next day consisted of two tours. The morning tour concentrated on the sights of Kyoto. A bit hectic but lots to see and a very informative guide. We had a buffet lunch with plenty of choices at a heritage centre. In the afternoon we headed out to Nara and the beautiful parks and temples with an excellent guide who showed us some different aspects and explained the history._br/_ Another night in Kyoto and we had the next day to explore for ourselves. We really enjoyed the amazing street market selling anything and everything._br/_ The return journey to Tokyo, also on the bullet train was equally stress free._br/_ As first timers in Japan, this was an excellent trip and it has given us lots of ideas for a return visit and left us very impressed with the Japanese transport system.

Fortunately the sun came out and we had a wonderful view._br/_ The tram ride up to Mt. Komagatake was the best part of the trip. We took many pictures._br/_ The bullet train ride was well organized, there were tour guides at each stop to greet us and took us to the next train track. _br/_ Hotel is fine, we did not upgrade to the better one. It is in the middle of the town and have plenty of restaurants._br/_ Kyoto and Nara trip was very nice. We came at the right time, the foliage was so pretty,_br/_ The scenery and the tour experience was the best, we enjoyed so much!!

I highly recommend this tour. It is a great way to see sights outside of Tokyo without having to do a lot of planning or research. The tour guides were all well informed and spoke good English. First you are picked up at your hotel in Tokyo and travel with a small group by bus to Mt Fuji, where you go halfway up the mountain. There are great photo ops and a gift store. We were blessed with a very crisp clear November day. Then you will stop for lunch, which was surprisingly excellent! Then you take a ferry and a cable car up Mt Hakone, where there are great views of Mt Fuji. We were then dropped off at the Shinkansen station to travel on to Kyoto. Tour operators met us every step along the way during bus, rail, and hotel transfers. In Kyoto, the hotel was first class! The next day you are in for a whirlwind day: touring palaces in Kyoto in the morning, another great buffet lunch, then an afternoon bus ride to Nara where you will absolutely marvel at the World's Largest Bronze Buddha an eerie ancient Shinto Shrine and hundreds of deer roaming free. The following day you are free to explore Kyoto on your own, and I would highly recommend the Old City Ninenzawa district. Then at 1700 you are picked up at the hotel, back on the Shinkansen to Tokyo, and taxi'd back to your hotel. This tour was well worth the money, and when we consider all we saw and the superior service, was actually quite reasonably priced!

The first day was beset by a snow storm the first snow in the area in November in 54 years, apparently, so the detours we took were inevitable, but I still enjoyed them. We got to see the Fujisan World Heritage Center instead of Fuji itself, and went to the Itchiku Kubota Kimono Art Museum to fill the rest of the time on the first day. That was definitely off the beaten path, but a treat Kubota was the first living artist to have an exhibit at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in DC. The lunch on the first day was amazing as well, a delicious multi course meal.

We enjoyed all aspects of our tour...even got to see Mt. Fuji which isn't always available. Very good tour guides entertained us.

it was a great experience. However, we were not able to see mt. Fuji since it was a cloudy day. Otherwise the tour guide and the tour were very good.

The tour guides were great and so was the tour. I can't fault the tour that there were so many clouds I could not see Mt Fuji. This makes the gondola ride pointless, and I think the tour should have something in backup if there are that many clouds that the gondola is just in a white smog the whole time. Also, we didn't get to ride on the promised pirate ship, just a boat that took a 10 minute trip to the gondola.

We absolutely loved the trip! It was perfectly organised, on time, very professional and kind tour guides, they accompanied us until the very last minute we took the train back to Tokyo. We were very impressed. Would recommend to everyone!
