The Black Abyss Designed for people with a moderate level of fitness, the five-hour invigorating journey includes a minimum of two hours exhilarating underground adventure. Abseil (Rappel) into the awesome limestone tomb to experience the adrenaline rush as you clamber and slide through squeezes, zip into the black water filled abyss and scramble up waterfalls in your pursuit of daylight.
Inside the cave naturally occurring decorations such as stalactites and stalagmites will amaze while the resident glowworms promise to provide a spectacular visual exhibition as you traverse through the subterraneous playground.
Includes: Abseiling training, abseiling 37 metres, caving and walking, cave tubing (black water rafting), glow worms, jumps, flying fox, climbing
The Labyrinth This popular tour involves a combination of walking and floating on an inner tube through a unique underground river system. As you prepare for your adventure your professional guide will ensure you are properly equipped and teach you some fun techniques before you climb down into nature's underground network for an enjoyable cave tubing experience of a lifetime! Streams spill, twist, turn and join to build a river canyon. Glide with the water as it drops down the hidden waterfall and tumbles down rocky chutes before sliding through vaulted limestone galleries to finally emerge into the dazzling green Waitomo forest.
Prepare to be amazed at the naturally occurring decorations within the cave including stalactites and stalagmites. This exhilarating journey also provides a spectacular visual display of glowworms.
Includes: caving and walking, cave tubing (black water rafting), glow worms, small waterfall jump
At the end of your experience enjoy a hot shower, hearty soup and bagel.

Simple and easy to register. Dale and Mikayla were fun guide a but also ensured safety, even advising where to put our feet! Wonderful floating and seeing the gloworm. VERY COLD, even by my standards. Hot shower and warm soup was a nice touch at the end.

Black water rafting was a unique experience, and very different from white water rafting. Looking at the glow worms after walking in the caves for a while makes the experience even more memorable. The guides were also very helpful and ensured the safety of everyone in the group.

My two grown sons did this trip and had a great time. It was exciting without feeling dangerous. Floating through the dark cave observing the glowworms is a unique experience. The hot tomato soup and bagel at the end of the trip was a welcome finale._br/_ The only change they would make was to add more explanation about the glowworms and the cave formation. More time was spent explaining safety issues than the unique features of the cave.

Exhilarating, once in a lifetime experience. We had the luxury of going to the back of the cave since our group was small. Guide was excellent, funny, informative and friendly. Worth the time, drive and money. At first seemed a bit drawn out, but need to have the full effect.

We had an amazing guide, Em who made the trip so much fun as well as informative. On top of that, she was serious about safety so that we knew what to expect. We almost skipped Waitomo because it was a bit out of the way and I'm so happy we wound up doing it. A great, once-in-a-lifetime memory that we'll always have!

great trip - well looked after by guides and good fun - be aware that you will not be able to bring cameras or go pros etc as the guides take photos and sell them but they are not too expensive ($30) and you do get a professional promotional video as part of the package.

This was amazing. All suited up with wetsuits, the water was cold. Fantastic staff, great jumping from waterfalls, floating in the dark looking up at the glow worms. Recommend it highly.

The Black Water Rafting experience was awesome. The guides were fun and informative. Just be aware that if your leaving from Auckland, it is a 2.5 hour drive South. I did not realise this when I booked and we had trouble getting there. There was no public transport that would get us there on time and we ended up having to hire a car, which added to the price. It would be good if a transfer option was included. The tour itself is well worth it though. My teenagers loved it.

our family group of eight had a wonderful time . the course was challenging in parts but such an unreal experience that it well worth it. i can sometimes be a little claustrophobic but no worries here at all. the guides were helpful and informative with a bit of humour attached.definately recommend it

A must do in Waitomo. The guides were incredible and the entire experience was unreal. Although claustrophobic I had a really lovely time inside the cave. The water was freezing but it didnt take too long to get used to it. Watching the glowworms was spectacular. _br/_
The only not so great thing - We ended up purchasing a CD of photographs at the end of the tour - but they werent of great quality.

Great fun, and our guides were great. There is a small abseiling component, and even a flying fox. Though touted as a 'rafting' tour - there is only a few minutes of this, and you're more floating slowly than going through rapids. It is in fact more of a caving experience. Don't let that turn you off though - it was great one, and one of the highlights of the tour!

Great guides! They provide hot coco and yellow at the bottom of the cave to help keep you warm! One of the greatest experiences I had in North New Zealand. This tour is a MUST for all NZ visitors!
