Grand Canyon Railway Adventure Package

Williams, United States of America

Step aboard the Grand Canyon Railway for a trip to the majestic Grand Canyon you'll never forget. Feel the rumble of a vintage train as the engine chugs 65-miles (approximately 105 km) across the beautiful Northern Arizona countryside. The train offers kaleidoscopic views of the San Francisco Peaks and rolls through valleys adorned in wild flowers, dense pine forests, high desert plains and small canyons.

The excitement begins at the historic 1908 Williams Depot. Before the train departs you will be entertained by a Wild West shootout featuring the Cataract Creek Gang in an outdoor theater. Shop in one of two gift shops, or enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast (not included) before departure at the Grand Depot Cafe next to the depot.

Then, hear the train whistle pierce the fresh morning air, beckoning passengers for a trip on the old iron horse to the Grand Canyon. Uniformed coach attendants provide you with white-gloved courtesy and service. Aboard the train, enjoy the tunes of strolling musicians who conduct sing-a-longs, an Old West train robbery, and the antics of western characters as they recreate train travel as it was back in 1901.

The train arrives at the historic 1910 Grand Canyon Depot, the only remaining log depot still in operation in the United States. Buildings like the El Tovar Hotel, Hopi House and Bright Angel Lodge salute arriving guests as you pull into the station and disembark from the train. A narrated motorcoach rim tour of the Grand Canyon National Park enhances your visit by escorting you to the most scenic overlooks of the canyon. Upgrade to include a hot buffet lunch!

  • Coach Class - Budd Coach, named after famous Budd Manufacturing Company, are streamline era coaches built in the 1950's and are air-conditioned and heated in the cooler months. Soft drinks and bottled water are available for purchase on board.
  • First Class - Enjoy the opulence of oversized, reclining seats with extra-large viewing windows and at-seat cocktail service (no host bar) aboard First Class. Cars are air-conditioned and you can help yourself to complimentary morning refreshments of fresh fruits, pastries, juices, teas and coffee. Enjoy snacks from the buffet on the afternoon trip.
Please note: adult prices include a USD15 National Park Fee.

We had Nicholas in Car A as our tourguide. What a great young personality! Very funny, very engaged with everyone in our car on both the trip to the park and the return trip. Nick is a true 'gem'. The only thing that became a little irritating was all the different 'players' coming through the car that worked for tips. Guitar player on the way there, banjo player on the way back, train robbers . . a little too much. I think it would be better if the company included these and pay them from into the price of the trip, rather than have them working for tips.

I would highly recommend this train trip! It was fun on the train and the time at the Grand Canyon was just long enough._br/_ However, I bought tickets online weeks before I left on my trip and when I was in Williams Arizona I found out that I had paid almost twice as much as I would have if I had bought the tickets when I arrived. There were empty seats on the train, so it's not like I needed to buy them ahead of time._br/_ I loved the trip, but feel disappointed by how much I overpaid for it.

Overall the trip was a good way to see the Grand Canyon for those of us who physically cannot hike or take the mule ride down. However, there were a couple of things I was disappointed in. I booked our seats first class and I was happy that I did as the extra leg room was worth it. However, the website our seat companions went through for their booking allowed them to choose such options as facing forward for the train ride. This would have been my preference, but I was not given the opportunity to choose this option with my booking._br/_ My second disappointment came with our lunch break. A couple of the previous reviewers said if they were to go again, they would not choose the buffet lunch option as there were many other sites for lunch and ample time provided to eat 1 1/2 hours. We did not find this to be the case. Our bus driver dropped us off at the furthest site from the train depot. Upon entering the eating establishment we learned it would be a minimum of a 30 minute wait to be seated. Combine the wait with a 20 minute walk back to the train depot we were concerned this was not adequate time to have a sit down meal so we choose try to find something closer to the depot. The signage for eating establishments is nonexistent and we could not find anyplace were we could grab a quick sandwich. Thank goodness cheese, crackers, etc. were provided in our rail car on our return trip or we would have gone all day with nothing to eat.

The train was great, the people accommodating for mobility impaired people, Alexander was very knowledgeable of the area and trivia too some of the jokes need more work. The Wild West guys were great. You could tell they like having fun, besides using this as a hobby. And, of course, the Grand Canyon is of unspeakable beauty. What I thought was a bit pricey was worth the trip. Thank you.

Our family loved this tour. Jeffrey was very informative and funny on the train. The train was a relaxing and eco-friendly way to get to the Canyon. The bus tour without lunch was perfect. We were able to get out at three or four stops and explore. We then had time to explore the village on our own.

Booked only a few days before trip - everything went very well. Was concerned about vouchers for train ride, bus at Grand Canyon, and the buffet lunch since we could not print while traveling. Had reservation confirmation - went to train depot in Williams, Az., the hour we arrived 4 PM and the clerk at the depot had the vouchers in an envelope to give to us - we did not need a printer after all. Great day's outing - especially for older tourists and those in not so perfect health. Good point to remember is patience - because the train travels at 25-30 mph making a 2 hr. ride to canyon and 2 hr. ride return - but, there's plenty to keep you busy and there's entertainment on the train. Tips for everyone is NOT included in ticket price - best to have several 5 bills in your pocket. We used 5.

The trip was great from start to finish. It was a relaxing ride to and from the canyon with entertainment along the way. We spent just enough time at the canyon and had a wonderful tour there with a very knowledgeable guide there as well. All in all, it was a day we will not soon forget. I would recommend this way to see the canyon to anybody who just wants to sit back and enjoy their day.

This trip was well worth the ride. 2 hours to the train, 2 hours to the Grand Canyon.....The bus tour to the Canyon overlooks was great. A little more time would have been better, we should have stayed over night. I wish there had been a bathroom on the bus or at each overlook spot. Its a lot drier there than at home, so I was trying to stay hydrated...._br/_ The train ride to and from was great. Good family fun! Kathy with a K was fantastic! Very friendly and accommodating. We played some interesting games on the way back to pass the time. The roving Singers were very talented. I'm a bit old to believe in gunslingers robbing the train, however, it was a fun diversion! Had a wonderful time!_br/_ I'm thinking of a fun job for retirement...hmmm :

This was the best way to see the Grand Canyon. They treated you first class from the time you arrived. They had a Wild West show to start off the morning. The train ride was full of entertainment and history as we ventured through to the Canyon. The train let you off right inside the Canyon. No need to try and find a parking place. Our tour bus was waiting for us and gave us a nice 1-1/2 hour tour throughout the Canyon. On the way home the outlaws from our western show held up the train. Very entertaining.

This train trip to the Grand Canyon was the best of all vacations! An old West skit with real cowboys starts it all off and then a trip of a lifetime ride on a train, and of course that is just the beginning I won't ruin the surprise but you just have to book this for your family....you and your family will be thrilled. Even if we had not got to the Grand Canyon the train ride was the best of it all. Great trip, great service, great value for the money.

The train journey from Williams to the Grand Canyon was simply superb. A gentle and relaxed 40 mph ensured you saw everything en-route. Food and entertainment on the train was great._br/_ The Freedom bus tour however was disappointing. Only 2 stops of 30 mins to allow you to take pictures of the Canyon.

Staff was extremely nice and very entertaining. Train trip had a lady playing accordion and singing, and on the way back we had a guitarist who played whatever songs you wanted him to. Lots of fun humor to make the trip seem shorter. The Train attendant took time to get to know everyone. Train had a cafe that offered chips, sodas, ice-cream at nominal charges. Bus tour guide was very informative and bus took us places only hikers and cyclists were allowed to go. He showed us a 30 year old agave that blooms only once every 30 years off the beaten track. We saw beautiful sights of the Grand Canyon with the green Colorado River below.Trip was very organized and well planned. We opted for no lunch and had an hour and a half to eat at restaurant of our choosing. Bus guide pushed the Arizona Room which had good service but mediocre food 2 tacos, Caesar Salad, Turkey sandwich 11-12 each. The whole thing started at 9 am and we didn't get back to train station until 5:30 or 6, so it was a long day but worth it.

If you are bringing children, they will have a great time. If you're just traveling as an adult without children, skip it. The views are identical to those from your car. You won't have to endure the constant prattling of the guide and the annoying fake western entertainment.
