Day Trip to Martha's Vineyard

Boston, United States of America

Enjoy Boston's original Martha's Vineyard day trip in comfortable and convenient transportation. Leave the hassle of driving up to someone else as you relax on your 1.5-hour ride to Falmouth, where you will board the ferry for Martha's Vineyard. Once at Martha's Vineyard, you will have time to explore the beautiful island on your own, or upgrade with a 3-hour island tour.

Get picked up from your Boston hotel in a mini-coach for a comfortable and relaxing 1.5-hour ride to Falmouth. Water, a light morning snack, and light commentary will be provided.

Once in Falmouth, you'll be dropped off at the Island Queen Dock where you'll board the passenger ferry. Your ferry ticket is included so you won't have to wait in line at the dock. Relax on a short 35-minute mini-cruise as you sail across the sparkling waters off the coast of Massachusetts.

You will arrive at the island of Martha's Vineyard around 9:30am. You will then have approximately six hours to explore Martha's Vineyard on your own. Your bus driver will be happy to provide you with more information and maps of the area should you wish to book additional activities.

Upgrade to a 3-hour narrated island tour to get an initial overview of the island. On the tour you will have a 15-20-minute stop at the Gay Head cliffs in scenic Aquinnah, where the first lighthouse was built. Next, you'll pass through the beautiful historic village of Edgartown. Along the way, enjoy the commentary from your professional tour guides as they share their knowledge of the island's history and present-day events. You will then have approximately 2.5 hours to explore Martha’s Vineyard on your own.

Upon completion of your day on the Island, you will board the ferry which departs at 3:45pm for a relaxing sail back to Falmouth, where the shuttle will be waiting to complete the final leg of your unforgettable day trip experience. A light snack and water will be provided on your trip back to Boston.

The guide was very knowledgeable._br/_ The Island was OK. Nothing to write about. One time visit is enough.

This is an all day event leaving the city of Boston and taking a ferry to Martha's Vineyard. This was the only day of our week's vacation that it rained but it did not spoil the trip. We were told by our guide that this was the time of year (April) where we could drive around the island and not be encumbered with traffic like the summer months. Had always heard about Martha's Vineyard so did not know what to expect. I am glad I went even though you are not able see any of the famous homes you hear about. We stopped in a small town and went our separate ways for lunch and then returned to the bus in an hour to resume our trip. The tour guide is a native of Martha's Vineyard so we were able to hear the true story of the island. Once you have visited the island, in my opinion, you would not have to return for a second visit unless you were invited by a famous person. I would recommend this trip to anyone because it is a definite tourist attraction.

There is no way to visit all of Martha’s Vineyard in one day unless you take this tour. The driver Anthony was humorous and extremely knowledgeable about the different locations around the island.

We did not set foot on Martha's Vineyard until 10:30. The time for the tour stops was abbreviated. We were picked up early from our departure dock because our boat was docked at a different dock. The Martha Vineyard's driver did not say,

Overall the trips was great. A smaller bus, more comfortable, on the island would have made it perfect. Guide was great. Glad we went.

If you're at a major hotel downtown Boston, the pickup/dropoff is very nice. Our driver was super courteous and very clear about what we were doing. Pay for the extra tour on the island unless you have a way of getting around on your own. Our tour driver on the island was great, and the ferry ride out and back was nice and cool which was much needed on a warm summer day.

New England Tours is a top notch and well oiled operation. We were picked up from our hotel exactly as promised and what an experience with a wonderful guide Kevin who was very informative and thoughtful through our drive to Falmouth to board the Island Queen to Martha’s Vineyard. Alexander was great driving us through the island and and pointing out to all details. This one day outing is great and highly recommended and very reasonable in price. I’m glad my family and I did it.

My family and I had a great time on the day trip to Martha’s Vineyard. Steve, the owner, was very helpful with our booking since we scheduled it at the last minute. Our driver, Jeff, was awesome. Made sure we arrived early and was very friendly. Overall, a great experience!

Absolutely beautiful. Definitely going back to stay as day trip wasn't long enough. All the Jaws locations were fab especially the Jaws Bridge. Highlight was getting to meet one of the cast from the first film, awesome. Tour company was excellent. Definitely recommend booking if your visiting Boston.

This was a a great way to see Martha's Vineyard without having to make complicated transportation plans to and from the city. Everything was planned out for us. It is a long day, with an early pickup around 6am and about 1.5 hours of driving each way, as well as a 45 minute ferry trip to and from the island. But it was totally worth it! Steve was a great host and gave us some Boston history as we drove out of the city. Light snacks and water was also provided on the trip to the ferry. The 3 hour island tour by bus was a fun way to see the whole island--there are two brief stops during the tour, one in Edgarton, and one at the Gayhead Lighthouses. Then we had a few hours in Oak Bluffs to explore the gingerbread cottages, the beach, and have lunch on our own before heading back to the ferry. We really enjoyed the whole day!

I am a History Nerd, so this was an AWESOME Trip to Martha's Vineyard. I went during the off-season in October. There were very few tourists, many shops and restaurants were closed for the season. I do not enjoy being in larger crowds of people. So, this was perfect for me. I was able to visit museums, ride the bus, and dine without having to wait in lines. The off-season also provided me with opportunities to speak with a variety of locals many of whom leave during the height of the tourist season. Everyone was friendly and I learned some interesting facts about the Martha's Vineyard communities. Since I have had an educational and relaxing trip,I plan to visit during the summer!

I found Martha's Vineyard to be a bit underwhelming overall. Maybe it was because of the storm coming through on the day we went. It was cloudy, cold, and rainy.

This tour company is good, but not great. Once you take the ferry to Martha's vineyard, you board a school bus that takes you around the island. The tour is very rushed, but the driver does give a lot information about the island. We had about 10 minutes at the lighthouse to take photos and get back on the bus.

This trip is good. Its a long day with a very early start, but a great way to see Marthas Vineyard. I would recommend to not take the tour offered while on the island, it takes up a lot of your time. Better to spend your time exploring the towns at your own pace. Local buses are very accessible and inexpensive. Check timetables for return trips - usually about every 20/30 minutes - this will save you time just sitting waiting at a bus stop. We had a very memorable lunch of lobster and corn by the waters edge for medium price. Very pretty towns. Nic little shops. A good trip.

We had a great time at Martha’s Vineyard! The driver was right on time picking us up. We didn’t have to worry about driving in the city. Once we were on the island we opted to rent a car and sight see for ourselves.(It was cheaper to do in person than online.) It was a wonderful day!

Unfortunately we were picked up in a mini-van... it was VERY uncomfortable. We were Stuffed in like Once arriving to Martha's Vineyard we were Bussed around in an old school bus....the guide was hard to understand....AND most of the shops and restaurants were closed. Don't take this tour in the off-season. :-

Great Day trip from Boston. Plenty to see and do, and the Lobster at Nancy's was Fantastic. Go and have a look around Cottage park and talk to the Locals. Also include an Island Bus sight seeing tour.

Bus ride from Boston to Cape Cod was fine. Quick stop at MacDonalds. Tour guide spoke a bit, not much. It's probably the best option and reasonably priced, for getting from Boston to Marthas Vineyard if you do not have access to a car._br/_ What we would NOT recommend is the 3 hour Marthas Vineyard tour. We spent 2 1/4 hours on the bus, listening to Anthony ramble. And unfortunately, when he didn't lull us to sleep, and we passed a place of interest, we just kept driving. If we had to do it over again, we would have rented a car, grabbed an on-off tour bus from the ferry, biked, whatever, but never would do this tour again.

couldn’t understand the guide very well because he spoke so quickly and had a heavy accent. He talked NONSTOP for the 3 hour trip. Wished he had made more stops and had more time to explore. Next visit I will take the public bus to explore the area.

I had a wonderful time on this tour. Both our driver and tour guide were funny, interesting, and made sure we made the most of our day. Pickup is early, in the morning, and after experiencing it for myself, I can see why. The drive from Boston to the ferry is pretty long, and is quite scenic, Very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend the three hour tour, to get a better idea of what the island really is about. Martha's Vineyard is beautiful, and tour guide Anthony gave us a great showcase all the interesting sites. My favorite part was near Gayhead Lighthouse, where we went to the overlook and watched the waves and islands in the distance. You have plenty of time to walk around and tour the small towns yourself. Things here are not cheap, but that is expected on an island that depends so much on tourism. My only regret is that I didn't have enough cash to give Anthony a better tip.

I am glad that we decided to spend the extra money and purchase the island tour as we did not find any other options available when we arrived. First stop of the morning though was a village where we were to walk around and explore. Unfortunately it was too early and the shops weren't open. I do not know why the tour did not visit the lighthouse first and the village as the second stop.

First, the inital 160 dollars spent was only for bus ride from Long wharf to ferry and ferry to island MV. Had we not taken the bus tour for additional 80, we would have done nothing but walk around the little town. The bus driver, drove a little to fast for picture taking and his accent was so heavy, he was hard to understand. A lot of the island is undeveloped and you see nothing but trees and low marsh areas.. There are a few interesting areas but nothing exceptional. My advice , TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN

As all tours rely on the guide this one was really good. Informative and witty very personable young man. Anthony was a credit to the company. Marthas Vineyard is a place you want to be able to afford to stay a few days to get the best out of your visit. Great places to stay and explore. This tour gives you a taster of what is on offer. The tour is good. I hope you get a good guide. The pick up guy, whose name I forget sorry, was punctual in fact he was early. Kept up a steady stream of information during the journey to the ferry. The return guy ,Steve, was amusing. Its a long day but enjoyable.

Too long of a day-more time needed at Edgartown . Not much to do in village where we departed/arrived from ferry. _br/_ Also, why so difficult to do pick ups at our hotel-Boston Taj?

We drove to the ferry deck because we were staying at South Boston. The ferry was nice, clean and plenty of seats. At arriving, Tom bus29 was waiting for us. We start our tour and was more than we expected. Tom was so knowledge, funny, only a very few of his personal experiences, We cannot praise him enough, he was great.

Starting out from being picked up from my hotel, the driver was very knowledgeable as a tour guide too. Very cautious is his driving and arrived at Cape Cod Falmouth dock on time for our ferry ride. The Island Queen ferry ride was good. Arriving at Oak Bluffs we were met by our driver who was born and raised and live in the island who was driving the yellow bus. He definitely knows the inside and out of the island and all of us in the bus were very lucky to have him as our tour guide. Coming back our driver offered potato chips and cold water for free which was just perfect. We arrived safely to our hotel. Thank you for a wonderful tour.

Glad we did it, but now that we've seen it, we don't have to return. Our bus driver to the ferry was unique. Did a great job. The ferry was quite efficient and a nice ride. The tour guide on MV was like Chatty-Cathy on speed--Talked a lot too much. Not a nice weather day, so we were ready to come back an hour or more early, but there's nothing to do in Wood's Hole, so we just sat in the terminal. The driver home Steve was efficient and very nice. Thanks for a nice tour.

The tour was OK but it wasn't season yet so we didn't get to stop in Edgarton and look around. I was disappointed we only saw the gingerbread houses from a distance and didn't get a chance to walk around there and take pictures, Probably pretty good in season though the driver made it sound like traffic is terrible so maybe it'd be longer. Ours lasted 3.5 hours with only a couple ten minute stops in Aquinnah and some fish market.

Everything went like clockwork with our transfer, from being picked up to being dropped off. It is a long day, but you are travelling most of the time so it is not hard work. We did have an issue when we arrived on the island.
