Budapest All in One Walking Tour

Budapest, Hungary

Get your bearings and see the sights on a 3-hour small-group walking tour of Budapest. Escorted by an expert English-speaking guide, you'll see all the highlights including numerous UNESCO World heritage sites such as Heroes' Square and The Buda Castle, plus unexpected gems on this fascinating walking tour of magical Budapest. You'll also enjoy a break with two traditional Hungarian pastries and a hot drink. Numbers are limited to 15 people on this small-group walking tour of Budapest, ensuring you'll receive personalised attention from your guide. The most recommended tour in Budapest! Complete overview of history, Buda Castle, Inner Pest sights, Heroes' Sq, City Park & all the major sights.

Our walking tour begins at the Opera House and then a short ride on the Millennium metro out to the Heroes' Sq and City Park. There you’ll have a great introduction to the rich Hungarian history and culture through the chronological line of kings. Then we walk through the city park to visit the Vajdahunyad Castle (outside only), a complex built for the world fayre in 1896 displaying typical architecture found throughout Hungary.

Next, a stop off at Széchenyi bath house (with a peek inside when open) to learn about the amazing bath culture this country has to offer. Next we take the Millennium metro back towards the city center and stop off at the end of Andrassy Blvd. where you’ll hear about the significance the street brought to culture and nobility.

After our city park visit we head over to the St. Stephen’s Basilica (outside only) before we take a break in a café for a taste of Hungary’s famous pastry called “retes” which is a traditional type of strudel.  Here guests will each get two homemade pastries and a coffee or soft drink (included in the tour). After our refreshment break we head down to the riverside to see the famous blue Danube.  Here we will take in the spectacular view of Gellert hill and the Citadel, Buda Hills and the Royal Palace as we cross the river via Budapest’s Chain Bridge.

For the final leg of the tour we climb the steps up into the Buda Castle District and then wander through the old cobble stone streets and alleys to our finishing point in front of the Matthias church and Fisherman’s Bastion. At the conclusion of the tour the guide will help with ideas, directions and more!

Our walking tours are small personal groups and generally do not have more than 15 participants, making them interactive and personal and giving you plenty of chances to ask questions and get to know your guide plus hit them up for local tips of where to go and what else to do.

Highly recommended! We learnt a lot about Budapest and the history of Hungary as well as how to get around. Even though it was a rainy day the guide made the best of it. She walked at a very good, comfortable pace.

Wonderful tour. We did this on our first day in Budapest. The tour gives a great overview of the city and is personalized as it is a small group. The tour is very comprehensive and you are able to see all the unique areas of the city including taking the train. Considering the amount that we were able to see on the tour, it was still at a relaxed pace. It was evident that our guide had pride in his country and enjoyed his job.

Our guide Balint was excellent, good knowledge, witty and great at explaining Hungary's history. Meeting point not easy to find due_br/_ to building work on the Opera House. Balint encouraged questions and interaction with all members of our small group._br/_ Only one couple found the pace going up hills a bit harder for them._br/_ We've used Viator walking guides in 4 cities now and wouldn't hesitate from using them again._br/_ Special thanks to Balint

Our experience of this was great. Our 25 year old guide was a mine of information. We wore ponchos as we had 4 1/2 hours of snow and rain but it did not dull the experience. Do this at the start of your holiday as it will come in useful when travelling yourselves to all the areas. We could ask our guide about any information we needed and he knew the answer. Very enjoyable and well worth the money.

This was an amazing tour I would highly recommend, in fact I have to friends who are visiting Budapest in March. I think our guides name was George and he was very engaging and knowledgeable and helped us make the most of our relatively short stay in this amazing city. Do the walking tour first as you arrive in Budapest and then you have a good idea of where you need to return to or other places that the guide recommends.

Traveling with a friend we found this tour through Viator Company Name: Absolute Tours and it was definitely our favorite part of our weekend. We did the tour on a Sunday at the end of January. There were only 4 people total on the tour. The guide, Bálint was absolutely perfect he spoke great English and mixed in history, current events, and humor into each location we visited. You could feel the passion he has for Hungary. The pace of the tour was perfect a mixture of walking, train riding, and sitting. 3.5 hour walking tour may seem like a lot but it wasnt walking straight the entire time, definitely time to enjoy the sites and stop and listen to Bálint tell you about the history. We stopped at one point at a pastry shop for strudels which were out of this world I went with Bálints recommendation Poppy Seed and Cheese and Cherry superb!.

This tour was a very good introduction for the city especially since this is my first time in Budapest and we have very limited time in the city. We started the day at the tour company office we saw the main sights including the Opera house Heroe's square the chain bridge and the castle district.

Loved Budapest and this walking tour was a great way to see some of its many highlights assisted by an excellent guide. _br/_ The two standouts were the area around Heroes' Square that included a castle, monuments, park and thermal baths. _br/_ The other standout was Fisherman's Bastion on Castle Hill at the other end of Andrassy Avenue. This would have been about an hours walk, but due to time constraints we took the historic underground train which was included in the tour price. _br/_ Fisherman's Bastion has great views over the city that includes Parliament House._br/_ Other interesting things we did on the tour was a visit to St Stephens' Basilica, a walk across the Chain Bridge and some time out at a coffee shop for a drink and some pastries that were also included in the price.

This is a really good tour. You do do a lot of walking but at a steady pace. Our guide was excellent and full of information. Book this tour for the first morning in the city then you can go back and revisit to see inside some of the cities.

Balint, our guide from Absolute tours, was great. Small collegial group of nine people walked for four hours through Budapest. Balint's knowledge and insights outstanding. He had a great sense of humour and was very accommodating, in that he added things to our tour based on our interests. Start point very easy to find as it was behind the Opera House. Thank you!

A great tour, Christina was a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable. We saw all the main sights on the Pest side, Opera House, Peoples Square the baths, it was great to experience the underground with a guide. Strudels and coffee were perfectly timed. Over Chain Bridge where we should have walked up to St Mattias but we took a bus as we were way over the time the tour was supposed to take. Over time because of 4 late arrivals at the start and then Christina spent time arranging for a taxi for 2 older people who wanted leave the tour. Christina handled this professionally and there was no way our tour was compromised by these two issues. It was a great way to see the city at the start of a 4 day stay and get your bearings. I would recommend this tour. We found it an easy comfortable pace.

The tour was a combination of walking and public transportation, which made it fun and allowed us to cover more of the town. Zsolt was a great guide. As a history teacher and student himself, he had a depth of events that tied the tour together and provided meaning for the sights.

This was a charming tour, we appreciated the professional guide and particularly enjoyed the coffee break with the traditional strudel. We however had an impression that some parts were not well organized, such as the local transport that required using the sometimes overcrowded buses. This can be improved in the future, as otherwise the tour was very pleasant and insightful.

This was a great tour, made even better by Lazlo our guide. He was so informative and helped make the whole tour so interesting. The strudels were delicious and Lazlo entertained us with some of his magic tricks during our break, which was fun. Budapest is an amazing city and we loved every minute of this walking tour and were lucky enough to be in a small group with very nice people. Can't wait to go back and would use Viator again for other tours when we do.

This tour was excellent. Our guide Christy was sensational. We were a small group so we really had a chance to interact and learn about the interesting history of Budapest and its traditions. We were in Budapest over their Labor Day weekend so we had an opportunity to go to a great festival in a park near Hero's Square. We liked it so much we returned the next day to sample the great food and beverages. Christy made the tour the highlight of our visit to Budapest. I would highly recommend a tour like this early on in your visit so you can use the knowledge to explore the areas you liked in more detail. Be prepared to walk a lot!. This tour really gave us an appreciation of the rich history of Budapest and the pride and kindness of it's people. We will definitely return in the future.

I have taken many walking tours set up through Viator, in various countries, and this tour was one of the best. Lovely details, wonderful pace, and our guide was interesting and knowledgable. She happily answered any questions we had, to include suggestions for activities following our tour, transportation information, and places to eat. Also, and sometimes this part can be tricky, the office where we met was extremely easy to find and an easy walk from our hotel. This tour is well worth the money.

Adrienne was an outstanding tour guide and she made sure we saw everything mentioned in the info provided online. She knows the city well, and explained Budapest's history and showed us places we wouldn't have seen had we not gone on the tour. There were only four of us on the tour, which made it easy to hear everything she explained to us. We also loved the stop at the coffee shop for something to drink and baked goods too! Budapest is a wonderful city, and this was a wonderful way to experience it where we had time to take pictures along the way. Loved this tour!

We really enjoyed our walking tour with our tour guide Orsi and 6 other people. Orsi was very nice and very knowledgeable with excellent English skills. We took the subway to Hero's Square and walked to the Szechenyi Bathhouse area. We then went to a nice cafe and had strudel and coffee and got warmed up as it was a cold, windy December day. Afterwards, we walked across the Chain Bridge and up the steep hill to the Buda Castle and Matthias Church which was beautiful! Our tour ended there and afterwards we went to the Hospital in the Rock Museum on our own. Do not miss this attraction, it was amazing!
