The first day was well organised. The hotels very good and taxis all waiting to connect to the buses. But the bus connection was late in picking us up from Rothenburg and the driver had no knowledge about the audio that was supposed to be available. To top it off, the bus from the castle back to Munich did not eventuate and a small group of us were left waiting for some time. Fortunately the muller hotel manager organised a tour bus to get back to Munich! He did a wonderful job in assisting us.

We enjoyed this tour. The hotel we stayed at in Rothenburg was nice and the food in the restaurant was excellent. It was also close to the hotel. We had two different drivers on the tour. The driver the first day did not speak English very well so he didn't speak except to tell us how long we had in each location. The tour is supposed to come with headphones but he never gave us any so we had to guess what was going on by looking on our smartphones. Very unorganized. the second day was much better. The driver explained things to us and gave us headphones so we could listen to the description of the towns we would be stopping at. It was a long day but very good. the hotel we stayed at in Neuschwanstein was great. The bus dropped us off in front of the hotel. The castle was the best part of the trip for us.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE, NOT RECOMMENDED. We are tourists, need information, the driver was supposed to announce and play tapes of the cities we visited, the driver would not even announce the cities we were passing or arriving, so we missed the city we were supposed to stay. I called the office and let them know what happened. They called the driver by the way, laughing and mocking is a universal language so I could understand that it was funny for them what happened to us and he was supposed to take us to the train station, instead he tried to get rid of us by getting us on a taxi. With that attitude, we took our own taxi to the train station but we could not get back by train I can write why and the whole experience if you need more info and we had to take a cab back that cost us a lot of money. We arrived late at Rothenburg and missed the last tour. The next day we were supposed to visit 3 cities and we got only 2. They say it was our responsibility to know where to get off the bus, really?? We do not speak german and do not know the area, that is why we took a tour, otherwise we would have gone on our own. As I said, the driver never even mentioned where we were. They do not even recognize their responsibility on the bad job they did and blame everything on us. It was a long and bad experience that it would be too long to explain here. I have all the emails I exchange with this company, receipts, etc. that I can share, my email is calherp@gmail.com.

Great trip, interesting and fun with just enough guidance without the rush and structure of other tours. Hotels and points of interest were all 5 star quality. _br/_ Only recommendation is to make sure driver offers everyone audio guides in addition to apps. Best part of our trip to Germany .

This 3-day adventure is clearly laid out with vouchers for each days activities. You can participate in as much as you want or casually enjoy your day at your own pace. It was perfect in terms of doing what you want, eating when you want, and setting your own pace.

The bus don't have sufficient AC, and it was a hot day, hotel was great, especially hotel Muller, great location, you can actually see the castle from hotel dinning room.

An exceptional tour. The bus departed Frankfurt about 20 min. late, but the other days it was on time. The drivers did not speak fluent English, but clearly communicated where to be and when. The hotels were clean with polite staff they had plentiful buffet breakfasts._br/_ At each destination we used our travel book to make the most of our time and money. In Rothenburg we did a self-guided town walk, visited the Medieval Torture Museum, and used our provided voucher for the Nightwatchmen's tour. The next day we walked the top of the city wall and wandered down into the surrounding countryside._br/_ Between Rothenburg and Hohenschwangau the bus stopped at many towns which broke up the long ride with a chance to grab a local Bier or a visit a historical site._br/_ In Hohenschwangau we ate a delicious German dinner and sipped a bottle of Austrian white wine at the recommended Hotel Muller restaurant. The next day we visited both castles and between the tours enjoyed a snack on the benches beside the Alpsee. The bus ride back to Munich was efficient.

Efficient service, smooth from start to finish. Hotels were very good, the Goldeneye Rose in Rothenburg, be sure to do the night watch man walk, he is so funny! The hotel Mueller in Hohenschwangau was amazing, we had a great room. Everyone at every step of the journey knew exactly what was expected and we could trust that the arrangements were in place for pick up, trips etc. It really was first class.

I was slightly worried this tour was going to be too organised for my liking but I was wrong!_br/_ I turned up at the tour office to collect my tickets, given an envelope and was told to go to a bus stop - from there on in I was practically on my own. The envelope contained bus tickets, vouchers for taxis and reservations for hotels._br/_ Apart from the Nightwatchman tour around Rothenburg, there was no guide but that was absolutely fine by me - there was an audio recording playing on the Romantic Road bus which was detailed._br/_ The bus stopped at many of the towns along the way for photos and a stretch of legs. First night in a lovely hotel in Rothenburg with 1/2 a day to explore followed by another half day the following day then back on the bus to overnight stay at Hohenschwangau for another lovely hotel._br/_ All day to explore the castles before being picked up by a different bus to be taken to Munich._br/_ All in all a great trip that I would do again and recommend to others.

I would never do this company again. On the last leg of the trip, a bus pulled up at the time our bus was to leave, and the driver said who are you? It turned out that was the correct bus, but they were over booked and we had to get on another bus. They made us feel like idiots.

Very nice... the German countryside was beautiful... nice stops along the way. Really enjoyed Rothenburg, but the highlight was at Hoenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castle. The hotel there was out standing as was the restaurant. The only issue we had was upon our scheduled departure for Munich, we were made to stand outside the bus while they waited for another tour group to arrive. They were half an hour late and we could not be seated on the bus until they were all back and in their seats. Not very professional. Their tour guide was very disorganized. We felt like second class citizens staying there waiting!

Thanks for the previous reviews that we called the local tour office to pick up the ventures a day prior to the tour. The process was a bit confusing. Rothenburg and the hotel we stayed in are wonderful. However I highly recommend to leave Rothenburg earlier so we have more time to stop in the 3 towns along the way instead of just 15 to 20 minutes. The route is beautiful and we enjoyed the trip.

Overall we really enjoyed the tour, especially the stay in Rothenburg. It was nice to take the time and stay in Rothenburg and Hohenschwangau, and we were able to enjoy the cities once the weather cooled and the crowds left. The hotels are just ok, but we didn't spend much time there and the free wifi at each and on the bus was a nice surprise.

Our trip from the Ludwig Castles to Munich was fine. The hotel Mueller was lovely. The trip prior to that was poorly planned, drivers were unpleasant, no audio guided tools, no English speaking guides provided, and hotel Goldene Rose was not even a 1 star hotel! We were not even offered water for purchase on the bus and had no chance during 10 minute breaks in the towns we stopped at. No airconditioning on a bus packed with people on a day with oppressive outside heat is inexcusable!

Review by:   Glenn L,    July 2015 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
It was frustrating and a waste of money because there was no tour guide on the bus and the bus driver could not speak English. Each stop he said be back in 10 or 20 minutes and could not tell us how to go to the interesting sites. Also could not tell us where the bathrooms may be even though we were asked not to use the one on the bus if we could wait. We didn't get to learn about the wonderful things we were seeing. And one bus driver we had kept drifting into the other lane and kept getting honked at.

We just did the 3 day Romantic Road tour from Frankfurt to Munich and it was terrible. First, we went to the Euroline office the morning of the tour and was told to go directly to the bus. We were not given any vouchers for the bus or hotel stays. We were told to go to bus stops 7-9 and all we found were bus stops 32-34, which after asking other confused customers, we were told these were bus stops 7-9. Then, we gave our 2 page receipt voucher to one of the bus driver, who unfortunately could speak very little english. He kept asking for other papers which we told him the Euroline office told us to go to the bus without any other paperwork. He then told us to put our luggage in the bus luggage compartment. We were very worried about being on the wrong bus and more worried that we would not have a hotel to stay for the night in Rothenburg when we arrived there since we did not have vouchers. Finally, after 3 hours in the bus, the bus driver said in very limited English that our original paperwork will be at the Goldene Rose hotel in Rothenburg when we arrive.

The tour was organised really well - connections, hotels and pre-organised tickets were brilliant.E.g. already having tickets to Neuschwanstein so we could avoid the queue was amazing. The only let down was the second day we didn't get to spend much time in the towns along the way to Hohenschwangau

Overall enjoyed the trip. We did expect more stops in the villages and time to explore. We loved Rothenburg but were disappointed with the Hotel Goldene Rose because our room was on the third floor with no elevator. Of course the highlight of the trip was Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau. The Hotel Muller was the lovliest small hotel we have ever stayed in with the most helpful employees. The food in the restaurant was wonderful too. More than made up for the Goldene Rose.

The time spent in Rothenburg was great. More time should be allowed to visit Weikersheim and its beautiful gardens. The 2nd day was not very good...10 minute stop is not even enough time to go to the washroom!_br/_ The unexpected trip to Munich was a waste of our time and resulted in our getting to Schwangau much later than anticipated, with the dining room closing 10 minutes later. Thankfully, the hotel staff were extremely competent in directing us to the hotel restaurant immediately upon our arrival. Visits to both castles were great and thoroughly enjoyed by both of us.

I didn't understand that this was an individual tour, riding together on a bus with others on individual tours. That said, once I understood that I was on my own, I enjoyed the freedom and flexibility. The hotels booked for each of my two nights were lovely.

Review by:   David K,    October 2014 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
I wish I had understood that the bus was a regular scheduled bus and not a tour bus. In some of the locations that were interesting there were only 5 to 15 minutes at the stop meaning you really could only stretch your legs. The night in Rothenburg was the best. It was more of a bed and breakfast without all the amenities but it was quaint, rustic, and the people were extremely nice.

Everything went really smoothly. Rothenburg was beautiful. The night watchman tour was very entertaining. The second day on the bus was very long with little explanation about where we were going. Hohenschwangau was a lovely surprise. We arrived very late but the hotel was very accommodating and provided dinner even though the dining room was closing. The town and castles were beautiful. I would recommend this tour.

Wonderful tour along the romantic roads, loved our stay in Rothenburg, lovely hotel stay @ hotel goldene rose, did the night watchmen tour was definatly worth it, tour guide was very informative and funny. The highlight was Neuchwanstein castle which was amazing and beautiful the hotel Muller was a gorgeous hotel only wish we could have arrived earlier as we had to check out quite early in morning so didn't have much time in our lovely room, but no complaints, except Deutche touring did stuff up our dates but promptly rectified.

This tour for us was magic. The hotel in Rothenburg was very comfortable, and the "old town" simply amazing. So much wonderful history, not only here, but along the whole route. Weikersheim was very special. As we proceeded down the Romantic Road we saw the increasing richness of the countryside. Wonderful rich, rich farmlands surrounding beautiful centuries old towns. It was a great way to go, from north to south. To finish in Hohenschwangau, and stay the night at the magnificent Hotel Muller was a terrific surprise, with a view of the "Fairy Tale Castle" from our hotel room window. Many thanks to all those involved, who made this tour so wonderful. The tour leaders, the drivers and the hotel employees who looked after us so well. It went like clockwork.

I was extremely disappointed with the organisation of this trip. I knew I could organise this trip for a lot less than the cost that I was charged and it would have been easier and less problems. However I thought having this part of my trip organised for me would have been worth the extra cost. However, I the wrong vouchers were faxed to my hotel, then I went to the pick up point for my vouchers, there was nothing there for me. I could not get in touch with the company to enquire and then was put through to America's help desk where I was told that everything would be fine with my voucher that I had which after some every expensive phonecalls, did not get any answers. The only way I got my vouchers was through the help of a lovely lady who worked at one of the hotels I stayed at. The lady at the hotel also said that the next couple that were coming were having the same problem. I would not book this trip again. It is much easier and cheaper to complete this tour on your own. I did do another tour with this company which was fabolous but while I was waiting for the tour a group came in and there was no communication between them and the tour and the tour was cancelled for them. I suspect there can be problems when booking through this company. I did however have a perfect tour while completing the Wachau Wine Tour but was very disappointed in the organisation and the help that I was given through this company while doing this 3 day Romantic Road Trip. This is very sad to say, as Rothenburg was spectacular as with Hohenschavangau.

I would have rated this tour higher except for two things. _br/_ First, the agency where we collected the vouchers the day before told us to wait in the wrong area for the bus - It was only as 8am approached that I went back to the agency and spoke to another member of staff and was given directions to the correct bus stand. We then raced around the corner with our suit cases to the correct stop followed by another family. I told the driver and he did stop at the first stand where it picked up more passengers. We had all been given the wrong instructs in the agency._br/_ Second, the hotel in Rothenburg was substandard. Our intinerary indicated that we would stay at Hotel Spitzweg or similar. That hotel looks lovely with quality furnishings etc - on Tripadviser it ranks as no 6 in Rothenburg. We had to stay at Goldene Rose - really a basic B and B, not a hotel. Apart from a pretty exterior, it lacked charm and was very basic and not very comfortable. A real disappointment and not in the same class as Hotel Spitzweg so I felt we had been mislead._br/_ On the positives, the route is terrific - the stops are well chosen. Rothenburg is gorgeous with its city walls and mediaeval buildings and the night watchman walk is very entertaining and great fun. The second night is spent at Hotel Mueller - this was a lovely hotel. We had a comfortable room, great breakfast and the hotel staff were so well organised and efficient. They had tickets ready in the morning to visit Neuschwanstein Castle and we got them to buy us extra tickets to Hohenschwangu Castle as well._br/_ This is a great tour but needs fine tuning - perhaps options can be given to select from a rage of accommodation. I would recommend it if they can fix up the accommodation in Rothenburg.

We really enjoyed this tour. Amazing and beautiful places, good steady coach drivers, adequate bathroom stops (and a toilet on the coach if necessary), all transfers efficient and smooth, lovely hotels booked for us with good rooms and excellent breakfasts, and yet we were still largely independent. Yes, we could have done much of the same tour for a somewhat cheaper price if we had booked each bit ourselves, as we have done for the majority of our travels, but for once it was good to have it all organised for us and it would have been difficult getting back to Munich in the evening after a wonderful day in Hohenschwangau. All 3 meals that we ate at Hotel Muller were excellent and they catered extremely well for my gluten-free diet, as did Hotel Spitz for my Rothenburg breakfast. Viator had informed the kitchens of both hotels and they were ready and aware of my requirements.

Great tour , absolutely beautiful. It should not be taken if you plan on more than a drive through of the cities on the way to Rothenberg , but the stay in Rothenberg was perfect and inn was fine and yet simple. The pick up was on time and no time at any of the towns to the Castle. The Hotel Muller was super and the guides or drivers on the way were great.

This trip had the potential to be wonderful, and in part it was. The overnight stops at Rothenburg and Hohenschwangau were fantastic. The parts we were unhappy about were missing Wurzburg due to a running race - why was this not known by the tour organisers -so missed seeing Wurzburg. The driving between Frankfurt and Hohenschwangau was at times dangerous with driver writing and reading notes while driving and using elbow to steer. Driver got lost twice, having to ask strangers for directions, and as a result we were running behind schedule, missing Augsburg, and arriving at Wieskirche at 8pm, too late to view. The driving from Hohenschwangau to Munich was excellent (different company). Do not feel we got value for money on this occasion.

Let me start off with the bad. First of all, the lady at the agency in Frankfurt where we picked up our itinerary package was super rude, which unfortunately did NOT make for a very good first impression. I felt a little uneasy about the tour after that. Also, the bus drivers really didn't speak English, so it was a bit challenging to communicate with them.

The trip was great although time and information was a little short in a few instances._br/_ The drivers need to take a more active role in the trip, perhaps providing commentary as the trip progresses.

Loved them. Rothenburg was lovely, we had only 24hrs. wanted more. Neuschwansten was on our bucket lists. This package was unique, we weren't with a group, taking buses by ourselves, but everything---bus to taxi to hotel--- was cordinated smoothly. loved the flexibility. Hotels were nice. only negative comment is---I had to pick up our itenerary and vouchers in person at travel office in Frankfurt, I went there 3 times because it was not ready until the pm of the before departure. Fortunately, our hotel was very close to the office. The people at the office were not nice either. I really wish we could have the detailed information earlier.

The 3d/2n Romantic Road tour was excellent._br/_ All hotels were above average and bus trips went smoothly. _br/_ Even though our itinerary and vouchers were not at waiting for us upon our arrival at our hotel the night before our trip--the tour company somehow got all our papers to us while we were on our tour._br/_ The Bavarian Alps are beautiful and the towns are interesting. Also, it is a worthwhile way to get from Frankfurt to Munich.

Though without a tour guide, the logistic is well organised and arranged. The medieval towns are beautiful. Having said that, it would be better if (i) we can be given the option to select better grade hotels at Rottenburg; and (ii) a bit more time can be spent at Dinkelsbuhl where we had a 15 minutes stop only.

Trip was good. THe issue we had was travel vouchers (which we were unaware of before the trip). When we arrived at our first hotel night, they asked for vouchers, to which we had no idea. THe confirmation document was all we received and presented to the bus driver, who took the document. Apparent this has happened to others. Perhaps a change in the system would eliminate confusion? The bus driver could distribute "vouchers" to the participants when they arrive for pickup with the confirmation email/document.

It was worth to join this trip if you just want to spend only 3 days in the romantic road. The trip highlight the key scenery of the romantic road, the hotels are good. However, the last day from Neuschwanstein to Munich was arranged in the car of local tour, my husband and I need to sit separately as most of the seats are already occupied on the local tour. Suggest the tour to reserve some seats for the people book in this trip.

I highly recommend this! Beautiful town, castles and breath-taking scenery. I would think that this tour will be perfect if there is an additional night at Hotel Muller (between Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle) in summer. This will give us more time to enjoy Alpsee lake or to discover the hiking trails around gorge at Marien Brücke (Mary's Bridge).
