Atlantis Kona Submarine Adventure

Hawaii, United States of America

Dive beneath the sea on Kona Submarine tours! An Atlantis Kona adventure in a Big Island submarine is the best way to experience Hawaii's magical ocean world.

The Big Island got its start 18,000 years ago when lava flowed into the ocean and created one of the most magnificent coral reefs found anywhere in the Hawaiian Islands.

It's this natural "garden" of coral, and the Hawaiian marine life and reef fish - BIG and small - who call it home that makes this submarine tour experience such an unforgettable journey into the deep ocean.

Your Atlantis Submarine Kona adventure takes you on an unforgettable 50-minute journey aboard an Atlantis 48-passenger submarine, as featured in National Geographic television specials. You'll explore a huge natural coral reef and its marine inhabitants!

A new adventure awaits you at depths up to 100 feet (30 meters). Enjoy the amazing view in air-conditioned comfort and safety of a Big Island submarine.

This was my second Atlantis submarine ride. It is a thrill to go down in a sub. It felt very safe. The crew was delightful and pointed out things to see. Each person had access to a large porthole for viewing. This is a good option for those of us that do not dive or snorkle. We dove to a depth of approx. 100 ft, Unfortunately, at that level, everything looks blue! You do not see the pretty colors of the fish or of the coral. I wish they had used exterior lighting to offset the blue coloring. Friends that are divers, use lighting for that purpose. For that reason, I gave it a 4 instead of a 5.

it was hard to understand what the captain was saying over the intercom and we were packed in the seats like sardines

When we booked this tour, we thought it was a bit expensive, but we're on vacation and life is short. It was worth the cost. Neither of our party are great swimmers, so to be able to see the reef and fish in their natural environment was wonderful. The shipwrecks were also very interesting. Our guides were informative and helped make the experience memorable unfortunately, I am bad with names and have forgotten his name. Thanks for making our first trip to Hawaii even more terrific!

It was a great experience. For medical reasons, the wife and I are unable to get in the water, but the submarine adventure allowed us to get down to the reef and see many different species of fish including a shark and barracuda. The guide that traveled with us was knowledgeable and had a great personality. The support staff was helpful and ensured we were able to get in and out of the sub safely. The equipment was all first rate and seemed safe. Unless you are planning on scuba diving, it was simply a great way to experience the reef, and I highly recommend it.

This tour was very good. I saw more sea life than when I did the trip in Honolulu but this was due to the location.

I took Carol on this because she doesn't snorkle and this was a chance to see some beautiful fish. We did see some fish but the viewing windows are quite thick and also due to the depth, a lot of the colors were lost._br/_ Over all an ok trip but not outstanding.

Great crew. Fun and informative. I would still rather scuba, but this was an easy, dry, different way to go 100 ft under the ocean.

The Atlantis submarine experience is definitely worth doing at least once. We went on the ride at Kona and should have scheduled it for Maui also, as they have a good discount for multiple trips. Just the experience of being in a submarine is unique and the scenery is interesting and fun. The tour leaders were entertaining and educational.

We saw lots of different kind of fish and everything was well explained--if you are not a scuba diver--this pretty much replaces the experience--but without the danger--and you see different fish, etc than snorkeling--it was totally worth the moola--we had a truly special experience.

Very good undersea tour. Lots of coral, fish, and wrecks. Cool AC in sub....no claustrophobia. Lots of veiwing ability. Guides are very friendly and informative. Well worth the $.

This was an amazing tour. I would have liked to have seen the colors of the corals but unfortunately with the UV lights from the sub, we could not see how colorful it was. A little cramped in there, but I guess that is to be expected - it is a submarine after all. Great crew!

So impressed since we checked-in until the end. It was such a unique experience, the crew was amazing and very knowledgeable . They also made you feel safe. The whole experience lasted about 45-50 minutes. So impressed to see the sealife. Highly recommend !

just getting on the boat and in a submarine and going more than 110 ft below the surface was plenty exciting. The crew was friendly, the speaker was funny and knowledgeable. A must see.

The staff was very nice and understanding when after they closed the hatch, I went into a little panic and asked if I could leave. My husband loved it.

A bit expensive but worth the experience. We saw lots of fish, 2 sunken boats, and even some scuba divers! Crew was great! Lots of fun and low stress activity.

Saw lots of fish. A bit disappointed with the lack of color in the coral, was anticipating it to be more colorful but it was mentioned that they were experiencing a coral bleach. Still worth the time.

Lots of fish saw an eel hiding. Color of coral could have been better experiencing coral bleach. Still recommend it.

Loved loved loved this trip...the only thing I would want better is that the trip would be longer. Maria the tour guide was hilarious and very informed and educated. Ty again for this tour. Will definitely recommend it to others!

Absolutely amazing! To be under water and see so many fish up close. We were lucky enough to see a shark. Our guide said they see about one a month, our lucky day! The pictures we took came out clear through the windows. The crew was wonderfully helpful.

Initial printing showed 100 minute boat ride out to the sub- it was actually a 5 to 10 minute boat ride and was a wonderful experience, at low season only 12 tourists were on the sub for our tour. The next day an NCL cruise ship pulled in and they were full up.

It was fun "under the sea." Shore personnel and boat crew were all upbeat and helpful. Sub guide was informative and fun. We saw lots of fish, and several sunken vessels. The only drawback was the lack of photographic light under the water--our photos didn't turn out as well as we had hoped. Still, we really loved the experience.

Great day out especially for Sandra who not being a swimmer finally got to see what lies below the sea. The crew were attentive, the submarine fairly quit and the ride was smooth. Viewing was very good and would absolutely do it again.

Tour company allowed us to change the date/time of our tour on the spot. Tour was 1/2 full which allowed us to see more and go further than would have been the case were the trip full. We saw tons of fish and the guide was very informative.

The tour was nice, it did seem a bit bland with just a few species of fish around. seems more like going through a kidie park instead of a real dive. The fake skeleton on the sunken ship was cheasy.

A REAL Submarine. We went over 100 feet under! Saw several shipwrecks and the most amazing collection of colrful fish over the coral reefs.

I was a bit apprehensive about this trip but before I knew it we had dived and were seeing amazing shoals of fish and fish of all varieties. Lovely trip and an amazing experience.

Review by:   Ricky B,    August 2010 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
It was fun going that far under water, but during the tour I was told that the coral that deep had lost its original color by the loss of the sun. So all that coral was rather bland looking after the first few minutes. Suggestion putting lights on sub to light up coral to show its color.

Through no fault of your company this was a disaster. Young parents with an obnoxious screaming throwing child sat next to me and made no attempt to discipline the brat

Review by:   Paul H,    January 2010 Review: 4 star rating: Recommended
This is a great alternative to view the coral reefs and associated fish. Be aware that you need to go down a short ladder from the deck into the submarine. The seats could be a little roomier but the portal windows offer generous viewing areas for everyone.

We had a great time on the submarine tour. It was much better than we were expecting -- not quite the highlight of our trip but almost! If you have never done one of these submarine tours, do it! It is beautiful. Very peaceful. Completely safe.
