Caeserea and Rosh Hanikra Day Trip from Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Israel

Explore Israel's ancient Roman cities and ports on a fascinating day trip from Jerusalem. From the shores of the Mediterranean to the border of Lebanon, you will visit places of significance during the Roman empire, such as Caesarea, Haifa, Rosh Hanikra and the Crusader underground city at Acre.

Head off first to Caesarea, the beautiful fishing port which was transformed into a Roman Capital capital by King Herod. Your visit includes a walking tour of the many archeological ruins, excavations and majestic Roman theater of the city that was named for Augustus Caesar, and is best explored on foot.

Continue to Haifa, Israel’s third city which is set on and around the magnificent Mt. Carmen. The most striking landmark here is the immaculate Bahai Gardens, created as a tranquil memorial to the founders of the Baha’i faith.

From here you will travel up towards the Lebanon border to the rock formations of Rosh Hanikra, where impressive white cliffs meet the Mediterranean Sea. The action of the sea on the soft rocks has created a rich labyrinth of caves and limestone grottos, which you will have the chance to stroll around and explore. The Rosh Hanikra grottos are part of the Achziv Natural Reserve, and you may be lucky enough to catch sight of loggerhead turtle and bats – two examples of the native wildlife in this place of natural wonders.

Your day trip from Jerusalem concludes with a visit to the city of Acre. The city is often referred to as Akko, which means ‘until here’, illustrating the fact that it was historically the furthest point of in the Israeli Kingdom. Here you will visit the Crusader underground city and crypt, a complex world of underground tunnels and halls which were used by the Knights of St John as their headquarters. Before heading back to Jerusalem, you will walk back through the Old City Market, where can pick up a souvenir of your day of discovery.

I would not recommend booking this tour through Viator. There were problems for all on the tour from the beginning of pick up until we arrived back at our hotel 3 hours late. They were late to pick up at our hotel, but we heard from others on the tour with us that they had been picked up by taxis and transferred multiple times before we actually began the tour. Being in a foreign land, this does not exactly bring a relaxed tone to touring. Our guide Danny was very arrogant and controlling. He spoke to us as if we were doing him some type of favor for being there. Aftr they pick you up, they take you to a convenience mart where touring clients are transferred about for the convenience of the company providing the tour, Ben Harim Ltd. They then informed us that they were over booked. How is that even possible since it is all electronically booked? They wanted to know if anyone on the tour would be willing to take the tour another day. As people on a schedule while traveling no one could do this or wanted to. We proceeded to the first local, Caesarea. This was a great place to see. We were kept on the move, no dilly dallying or time to basically even take pics sometimes. The next stop was The Hospitaliar fortress at Akko. This was interesting, but again, although they had many markets with souveniers, we were only allowed to go in one shop that clearly our guide had an agreement with - no shopping for us. Also, we had to eat at the place Danny selected. They did not have any food I wanted. We went to Haifa to see the Bahai Gardens. We drove up a steep drive to the top of Haifa. You could get out and over look the garden, but not go in. A waste of time. We then went to the caves at Acre. Ok, but not really that great. We headed back and once again, we stopped at the convenience mart on the way home, where the guides moved people around and sent them in whatever way they wanted to get them back to their hotels. One of the ladies was so terrified of being sent in a cab that she was screaming. No worries, this did not bother our guides, they just kept going. I would say no to this tour It was not relaxing or that great.Rent a car or hire your own guide to take you. Did I mention that we arrived back 3 hours late? oh yeah, I did. :

This was a very action packed tour that covered a lot of ground in one day. The pickup procedure in Jerusalem was a bit roundabout -- but other than that , everything was top notch. The tour guide from the local tour company Bein Harim Tours was really excellent. Well worthwhile.

I was told to be at the meeting spot at 5:50 am and wasn't picked up till 6:20am. Then I boarded a bus to Tel Aviv, where I had to get on another bus, this one tiny, and the only seats remaining were at the very back with almost no window. This made for a very uncomfortable trip, and I spent most of the afternoon feeling sick and lightheaded. There were too many sights planned for the day's trip, which gave it a rushed feeling. I also didn't appreciate that I felt pushed to eat at a restaurant and pushed to buy things at a copper studio. Again, the sights themselves were interesting, but too much was planned and the transportation/driving was dreadful. On the way back to Jerusalem, the driver complained to the tour guide, which was a very negative way to end the trip.

Our tour was good but the guide, while a very nice man, was old and tired. too many eeeehhhs and umms. Also he really did not talk about all the things we really wanted to know. In akko we went to a so so restaurant and then they wanted to give us an hour to shop in the one store sanctioned but the company. Everyone was pretty annoyed at that point. We really would have loved a more in depth Akko experience. _br/_ also a complete waste of time visiting the gate to the Bahai gardens. _br/_ All in all the day was pretty good, though. We saw lots of interesting things in Caesaria and Acre too._br/_ unfortunately the weather was not that good, drizzly and the grottos were not lit up because we had no sun

The northern part of Israel is well worth seeing, but there were two significant problems with this tour: 1 Despite our itinerary stipulating that we be at the pick-up location at 5:50 AM, the driver did not show up until about 40 minutes later. Additionally, we had to change vehicles in Tel Aviv we originated in Jerusalem both on the way to the north and back 2 Our tour guide presented in both English and Spanish though I had booked only English and it was apparent that she was more comfortable speaking either Hebrew or Spanish than English. The real problem though was her lack of knowledge of the sights. A number of times, she put off questions, saying she would address them later. In Akko, particularly, it was frustrating, as was the omission of the prison and the synagogue from the tour.

This is a very good tour. Rosh Hanikra was an unexpected gem. The bus was excellent and the guide was very knowledgeable. Lunch which is included was very nice. The only negative is that if you are coming from Jerusalem the driver may not speak English and have any idea where to drop you off at.

WORST TOUR EVER! My wife and I took this tour just recently October 2016. We did not visit the underground city at Akko and the tour was very rushed. Theinformation provided to promote this touris misleading and incorrect. I am also disappointed as this was a missed opportunity for us to have seen such a sight - had we know that this was not included in the tour we would have booked a different tour. I ask you please to remove this information as I feelit traps tourists into thetour especially when they will probably never return to the area.

This tour was long but rewarding. All 4 stops were interesting and the tour guide was informative. My only criticism was restaurant closed by tour company was unacceptable and somewhat unsanitary. Guests should have been given a choice and time frame to have a decent meal on a 13 hour tour.

Great tour. A lot of sightseeing was packed into the day with ample time at each site. Our guide was very good. I can't remember his name but he's in his sixties and is an Israeli Air Force veteran. Caesarea and Acre were particularly good. The guide was knowledgable and we had plenty of time to explore. The Bahai Gardens are beautiful but you can only see of most of it from a viewing platform. Rosh Hanikra is impressive but it is a fairly small space for the many people who visit and you can't get the full effect unless it is nearly empty.

It was a very nice trip - a little rushed, especially at the end of the tour in Acre. This tour offers a wide variety of sites from the natural beauty of Rosh Hanikra to the historical city of Caeserea.

The tour guide was okay, but we skipped part of the tour of the Acco tunnels because one member of the tour did not want to go underground. The pickup was 35 minutes late, and on the way back, the van broke down and it took one hour of everyone standing in the sun for another van to come. The worst thing is that there was zero communication, not about the late pickup, not about what was happening on the way to the tour when the van stopped in Tel Aviv for 45 minutes, nor what was going on when the van broke down and the ETA of the next van. There would have been a very different atmosphere if there had been communication, information, and at the very least, an apology! None of this happened. I do not recommend this tour service for anyone.

The tour was ok. You could remove the trip to Rosh Hanikra as there is nothing to see there.

Oh my the amphitheater and the Hippodrome all in one stop and it is still there. Pontius Pilate attended events here. So did Herod the great. Fast forward to the Crusaders and you have seen real history where it happened.

This was very very rushed. We barely had anytime at any one place to enjoy it. This should really be split into two days.

After our shocking experience with our Ben Hareim tour to Jerasalem and Bethlem we nearly did not go on this tour although we had already paid for it! As it turned out it was quite good although we were forced into a hot and crowded and over priced restaurant for lunch.

Israel is so rich in history but you only assume it's biblical - this tour offers an insight into other influences - roman, ottoman and the crusaders. The guide was very knowledgeable. The icing on the cake were the rosh hanikra grottos and you don't realise how close you are to the Lebanese border. Early start to the trip but worth it

If ratings were based on just the guides I would give every trip I took in Israel 5 stars. But when you add in the disorganization of the local operator the ratings drop. Late morning pick-ups, confusion over who was going where, a woman who comes in to the room shouting names and never introduces herself or company ; not very professional in the operations. The actual tour is wonderful.

Once the early morning round of hotels was done, with all the formalities, the trip from Tel Aviv up the coast to Akko was wonderful, each site being a great pleasure. It was a varied and interesting day and the guide was well informed and helpful. The one drawback was the evening traffic back, around Tel Aviv, making it a very long 14hour day for me by the time I was returned to Jerusalem. Organizing a rendezvous outside the Tel Aviv busy area, to allow Jerusalem and Tel Aviv patrons to be returned separately to their hotels, would improve the day a lot. Overall, a great tour.

Maybe I should've realized that one day to see all of this would be an insane expectation but other reviews were promising. _br/_ I left from Jerusalem at 5:50am but we didn't actually start on the way to the first sight from Tel Aviv until about 8:30, since we waited around a lot for others. Our tour guide was knowledgeable but she talked way too much. And even though only 4/10 people spoke Spanish on the tour, she usually only spoke in Spanish until someone asked her to say it in English. _br/_ I prefer a tour that drops you off and lets you wander around, not one that hustles you through the sight but makes time for shopping at specific stores. This was not that. _br/_ You don't actually get a good view of the Ba'hai Gardens in this tour, or any other part of Haifa for that matter. In Acco, there is much to see but we wasted time by her talking too much at the entrance (instead of explaining in the bus) and guiding us into more stores and a horribly overpriced place for lunch. _br/_ All in all, if you're looking to "check off your list", then this is fine, but if you actually want to spend more than 5 seconds looking at something before being guided away with useless information, then I don't recommend this trip.
