Best of Brooklyn Half-Day Food and Culture Tour

New York City, United States of America

The new culinary center of the Big Apple, where food and dining trends are dispersed to the rest of the country, is Brooklyn. And with this half-day tour, you can take a big bite out of it. From old ethnic enclaves to the latest hipster 'hoods, Brooklyn's dining scene is both diverse and cutting edge. Munch pierogies in Polish-dominated Greenpoint and hip farm-to-table fare in Williamsburg. This guided eating tour of New York's coolest and tastiest borough is ideal for foodies and the people who love them.

Welcome to Brooklyn, the coolest, most dynamic borough in the Big Apple. Not just the center of all things hip and artisanal, Brooklyn also happens to be one of the best places to eat in the country right now, where dining standards like locavore-ism and farm-to-fork trends hit here early on.

This guided half-day culture-and-food-centric tour winds throughout Brooklyn, revealing the hip 'hoods and the off-the-beaten-path eats that you'd be hard-pressed to find on your own.

Your journey begins in the historic West Village, the past and present home to some of the city's most influential residents. Then, along with your knowledgable food-crazed New Yorker guide, hop into the air-conditioned shuttle and venture across the Williamsburg Bridge.

Journey around the ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Jewish section of Williamsburg, where families stroll the bustling streets that look like they haven't changed in a generation or two, before hitting the hipster section of the neighborhood. Williamsburg is one of the best restaurant neighborhoods in the city where third-wave coffee roasters sit next to cutting-edge farm-to-fork restaurants. Indulge in a slice of Neapolitan pizza or a cannoli before moving next door to Greenpoint.

Wander around Greenpoint, a neighborhood where you may hear "dzieƄ dobry" as much as "hello." That's because the area has long been home to the city's Polish residents. Stop into a traditional Polish eatery for scrumptious meat-stuffed pierogies and juicy kielbasas.

The tour suddenly gets sweet in DUMBO, an atmospheric part of town that stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. Sample some delectable sweets at the Jacques Torres chocolate factory and then walk it all off at the recently re-constructed Brooklyn Bridge Park (make sure you bring your camera for the incredible views of the Manhattan skyline).

Then return to Manhattan, pleased with your newfound knowledge of New York's coolest borough.

Fantastic, interesting, well run. Tasty. Went to Polish restaurant, ate pizza, falafal, meatballs, chocolate, and Italian cannolis! Very little walking, the way I like it! The tour bus was very comfortable.

I really enjoyed learning about the history of the neighborhoods we visited in Brooklyn. In addition to the 6 selected Brooklyn neighborhoods Rick also provided great information about Greenwich VIllage and The Bowery._br/_ The establishments selected for food were all unique and tasty. The falafel was my favorite dish on the tour. Rick provided lots of information that helped prepared me for the last 2 days of my trip to NYC. The driver Jerome did an excellent job. I cannot imagine driving in the NYC traffic and Jerome made it easy. Definitely take this tour! I am considering staying in Brooklyn on my next visit and exploring some of the neighborhoods in more detail.

This is a great tour to do to experience the different neighborhoods of Brooklyn and the multicultural food. I did not realize that Brooklyn was so big and the transport on the tour was the best way to cover the area.

I had the best time with this tour. I love going on food tours in every city I visit. You not only get to meet wonderful people around the world but also get to try delicious foods. I was pleasantly surprised on the piroshky and falafel stops because its not the type of cuisine I prefer but I think they have converted me The bus was on time and Laurie our tour guide was very friendly and informative. The best part of the trip was getting to take pictures at DUMBO and walking the bridge.

I've been on several tours sourced from Viator, but this tour was probably our best tour to date! Our tour guide Rick was just amazing. His wealth of knowledge about New York is epic. We learned so much about not only Brooklyn, but the neighborhoods inside the city of Brooklyn. The tour van we rode on was very very nice, and the driver was just amazing, I couldn't believe how well he maneuvered the van through some of the tight streets of NYC and Brooklyn. _br/_ The food on this tour is going to make you a happy happy person, from The Meatball Shop in Williamsburg to the Pizza at Table 87, you're going to have some excellent food. In addition, Rick also pointed out several other places to eat that we tried the very next day! This is the tour you're looking for, no matter if you're just visiting New York, or you already live there. Thanks again Rick, hope to see you in the Spring!

My mother was born in Greenpoint, and my father in Brooklyn in 1912. I was born in Brooklyn in 1943 and shortly thereafter we moved out to Long Island and then to Florida. My husband and I took this half day food and culture tour of the area in a 24 passenger comfortable mini bus, primarily to learn about this new diverse Brooklyn. We were not in the least bit disappointed. Our guide was Alyssa and she knew her history old and new. Alyssa answered any question thrown to her. She was well versed on all the neighborhoods and especially the popularity Brooklyn has now. To top if off, we visited 6 restaurants tasting meatballs, falafil , kibasa, pizza, Italian sweets and chocolates. My husband was celebrating his 80th birthday and I am 74 and we expected that since this tour was a combination walking and bus tour it might be too much for him. But it was not. Alyssa's pace was perfect, plenty of time for tasting and checking menus out and our driver always had us getting on and off the bus in safe places. I highly recommend this tour.

We took the Brooklyn culture tour. Our guide Rick was awesome. He was knowledgeable and took us to amazing places to sample great food from the meatball, falafel to the Polish restaurant the food was amazing. The Polish restaurant was a meal in itself then off to delicious pizza, cannoli and chocolate candy. If you werent full by the time you left that tour there is something wrong with you. Would highly recommend this tour but go hungry so you can taste some delicious food

We had a wonderful afternoon on this tour. The food selection was great. My favorite was the Italian bakery with the best cannoli I have ever tasted and the most beautiful marzipan display I have ever seen. Our guide Laurie was awesome. She had lots of interesting information on Brooklyn and seem very passionate about New York in general and the food and theatre scene in particular. Our driver James aka Jimmy was also great. He grew up in Brooklyn so he was able to provide additional New York insights.

Laurie, our tour leader was great. Laurie was approachable. She had good information about Brooklyn and New York City. You will see a good bit of Brooklyn, the bus saves time and is better for the mobility challenged client. There was enough food to fill you up for the remainder of the day until dinner. I would highly recommend this tour.

I would highly recommend this tour to everyone, young and old, it was the best one we did in New York. We also opted to walk back home across the Brooklyn Bridge which was also a highlight.

Fantastic activity especially for a rainy day. The bus was just the right size. The food was varied, good quality and sufficient to get a flavor of the different ethnic styles. There was time to purchase additional items if desired but no pressure to do so. The guide was charming while keeping folks on course and moving along. Great way to check out Brooklyn.

Absolutely incredible tour! This has been the first food tour I have ever taken and I am hooked! Rick was very knowledgeable and enthusiastically taught us about the culture as we tasted the various foods In the different areas of Brooklyn. The restaurant choices were diverse and delicious! Rick even allowed us a little extra time at the stops to take pictures, buy a few extra goodies to try and get a cup of coffee. I highly recommend!

This was my first ever Food Tour and I was totally impressed - by the amount of historical and cultural information imparted the quality and variety of food introduced to us the seemingly effortless but precise organisation which saw a varied crew in age and backgrounds delighted with the afternoon. Richard was a fountain of knowledge and humour - not to be missed.

It was great to see parts of Brooklyn that as a tourist you would not see and the eateries were what you see on films and are vanishing in the new up market world. Rick was full of anecdotes and really seemed to know his area and loved the old areas and wanted us to love them as well. A really worthwhile enjoyable experience and very tasty as my wife will testify after eating a few chocolate samples and macarons
