Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas

Port Douglas, Australia

Visit the award-winning Wildlife Habitat and get up close to Australian native flora and fauna. This wildlife experience just outside of Port Douglas has been created to provide a window into the natural environment. There are three different environments to explore – the Savannah, Rainforest, Wetlands and Woodland each with unique habitats.

Explore the three different ‘immersion’ environments from elevated boardwalks, giving you an up-close look at a large range of flora and fauna within three different habitats. Wander the park by yourself or take advantage of the free guided tours throughout the day.

Wetlands
Wander through the Wetlands and see the biodiversity of the wetlands at work. From the boardwalk you can watch the wading birds forage for fish in the waterways, and see native Australian icons -- black-necked storks and koalas

Rainforest
See the plants and animals of the rainforest as you walk from the forest floor to high up in the canopy -- keep an eye out for the shy cassowary looking for food.

Savannah
Depicting both the coastal and inland plains, the Savannah is home to a mix of different animals. See crocodiles basking in the sun and the native bird life among the billabongs -- there is even the opportunity to hand-feed wallabies and kangaroos!

Add to your experience by choosing one of the following options

  • Breakfast with the Birds: Enjoy a hot and cold buffet selection as you are immersed within the Wetlands. Experience the sounds and colors of the wildlife as keepers bring around a selection of birdlife. Breakfast with the Birds operates daily from 8am to 10:30am.
  • Lunch with the Lorikeets: Treat yourself to a delicious buffet lunch as you dine in the company of parrots, herons and an array of bird life. Lunch with the Lorikeets operates daily from noon to 2pm.

Review by:   Dawn Marie G,    December 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
I was initially excited about this stop, but after seeing many of these same animals in their natural habitat on other tours, it seemed sad to view them locked in a zoo. The kangaroos were huddled at the gate trying to get out as visitors came into the enclosures. You could purchase food to feed them, but they didn't seem to want it, perhaps due to so many people trying to feed them all day long. There was a bird some kind of owl? in the gift shop sitting on a perch and it fell onto the floor at one point. It just overall seemed pretty sad and touristy unfortunately.

I very much enjoyed my experience here. There are plenty of opportunities to interact with the animals. The animals were all very friendly, as were the people working there. You pay extra for a picture with a Koala but it's a great keepsake. I didn't know what to expect but this experience exceeded my expectations. I purchased the lunch option as well, but I personally did not think the lunch was very good. You can easily spend a half day here or more depending on how much interaction you want with the animals. Well worth the trip if you are in the area.

Nice place to wonder around, especially outside. Food was ok, but nice to get close to the birds and have them flying around.

Definitely a must-do while you're in Port Douglas! Nothing could beat the experience of being so up-close and personal to the many animals they have here and even more-so feeding them!! feed bag definitely recommended additional small fee It's nice to see the majority of animals roaming free and though it's not a huge park like Taronga Zoo, it is still a decent size to explore.

This place is a tropical rain forest. High Temperature and humidity. Plenty of things to do. We took a trip to the Great Barrier Reef and went snorkeling. The downtown area is very nice with plenty of shops and places to eat.

Great park. Very neat and well maintained. Loved holding a koala - so cute. I have the photo which I will treasure. The free wifi at the park was a nice bonus. Prices in the gift shop, including the photos with the koala were very reasonable. Easy transportation from the ship to the park.
