Milford Sound is arguably the most scenic destination in New Zealand, a must-see for any traveler. This is a small group tour for travelers seeking a personalized trip to Milford Sound. You will be transported in a modern, fully air-conditioned coach. As you begin your tour out of Queenstown we will travel south along the side of the amazing "Remarkables" mountain range and New Zealand's longest lake, Lake Wakatipu. From Te Anau the scenery really begins as we drive north along the lake. Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the South Island.
Upon entering the Fiordland National Park, the largest National Park in NZ, travel up along side the Eglington River to three mountain lakes at the head of the Eglington Valley. During this part of the journey you will make the first of our many sightseeing stops that also allow for some great photo opportunities. You have a couple of different locations for lunch and will endeavor to select the best spot on the day. With some fantastic walks in the area, this is a great opportunity to experience the beautiful alpine forest up close.
After lunch you head towards the Homer Tunnel, taking in some incredible mountain views while driving along side the crystal clear waters of the Hollyford river. Once through the Homer Tunnel, you'll wind the way down the Cleddau Valley. At this time you arrive in an area called Fiordland but are visiting a "Sound", the difference will be explained.
You link up with a scenic cruise for a 1hour and 45 minute excursion on the fjord.
The barbecue lunch includes a classic Kiwi BBQ of marinated lamb kebabs, chicken kebabs and sausages, a good range of salads, fresh bread and fruit juice. Vegetarian patties are available on request. Please be sure to specify any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
Important Note:During the months of May to October the itinerary for this tour will be modified. In place of the BBQ lunch enroute to Milford Sound, the tour will include a full scenic cruise with a BBQ lunch on board the cruise boat.

Fantastic day tour. This is a full, long day tour, but worth it. Once you get into the Fiordland National Park, the waterfalls are amazing. Pray for rain as this increases the number of waterfalls you will see.

A long day but thoroughly enjoyable. Our guide was fun and informative. He was also attentive to the needs of all the passengers. We liked that it was a small mini bus rather than a large group. It is a long drive to Milford Sound but we had lots of informative commentary and stopping for a barbecue which our driver prepared for us was a treat. The cruise on the Milford Sound was amazing - scenery is stunning and very peaceful. Well worth seeing. Of course there is then the long drive back but our driver had a movie for us - made in New Zealand of course, which we all watched with increased awareness and appreciation. Great tour. Recommend it.

This was a very long day, made enjoyable by our personable and knowledgeable driver/guide, Rob. Well worth the time if you want to maximize your experience in a short period of time. We were picked up on time at our air b and b, picked up some others, and headed out. Beautiful sights, well-planned pit stops, entertaining and informative narrative.

We are a family traveler 2 adults, 1 kid. This tour shouldn't be missed. Our tour guide and BBQ bus driver - Chris was amazing. He's an expert. The road travel was long, but it was worth it. We didn't have other options as well as it as raining and cloudy. The BBQ lunch was great! we had fund in the rainy Fiordland National Park. This small group tour has also an advantage as we sort of had a customized tour. The Milford Sound tour was amazing and the best! First time that we saw as many waterfalls. Also, the small group on the boat gave as great views and pictures of Milford Sound. The rain made it even better to have as many waterfalls. We also saw a seal. Definitely a must and we'll do this again when we return to Queenstown. Indeed, this is one of NZ's most photogenic places.

We really enjoyed our driver/guide, Chris. He was funny and knowledgeable. The side stops were varied and interesting. We especially were impressed with the power and two views of the falls. Even the cold wind couldn't keep us from enjoying a wonderful meal provided by our driver. Because of the rainy weather as we approached our boat tour, we had quite good views of the falls. We liked having the smaller group on the bus and boat as it allowed more options to get good photos. An interesting Kiwi movie was shown on the return trip, keeping it from getting boring.

BBQ took a bit of long time. We skipped and did not see famous Mackay Creek/Eglinton Valey, Mirror Lakes, and Monkey Creek. We would wish to see those instead of taking long BBQ time. Very simple and small lunch is enough.

Very nice tour with a fun guide. Food was good. We had bad weather but the rain surrounded us with plenty of waterfalls so it was still worth taking. Extremely beautiful nature on the drive to the Sound.

A fantastic day. The BBQ bus was great fun and we stopped off at various points on the way to Milford Sound and saw many interesting sites. This was a small group tour and our guide was very friendly and informative. We stopped off for a BBQ at a lovely spot by the river and had an enjoyable lunch before reaching Milford Sound. The cruise itself was great and the scenery was amazing.

Postcard photos is what you'll gain from a tour into a Milford Sound. What a beautiful place to visit! To get close up into the waterfalls was pretty amazing. We saw a school of dolphins and sea lions during our ride. Our driver was very knowledgeable and since we were on time he made a few pit stops along the way. One in particular was Mirror Lake where you could see the reflection of the blue sky off the silky water. I would highly suggest booking this tour.

The BBQ minibus picked us up from near our hotel and we enjoyed the day with only 8 other people which was great. The weather was good when we left Queenstown but clouded over and started to rain as we were having lunch. The bus driver stopped and cooked a BBQ for all of us - plenty to eat. It may sound grim as the clouds closed in and rained heavier but it enabled us to see some of the 200 waterfalls on the way to Milford which were spectacular. The boat trip took us out of the Sound and was a bit choppy. The rain was heavy by then but again if it had not rained we would not have seen the waterfalls. Just go prepared.

Amazing place. Our guide, Chris, was really good - very informative about the area - went the extra mile for us and kept us laughing as well with his sense of humour. Magnificent, beautiful, rugged area of New Zealand and not to be missed. The drive was long, but the result was worth it and if people don't fancy the return trip by road they can at an extra cost as you would expect arrange to fly back to Queenstown.

Enjoyed the tour very much. Nigel, our tour guide continuously provided information about the history of everything that we passed through. On the way to the Milford sound we made few stops at scenic sights. The lunch was delicious. Since we desired vegan lunch he had special vegan choices for us. On the return we got to watch a nice movie in the bus. The whole trip was very enjoyable.

This was a wonderful day. The scenery was breathtaking. Though it is a long trip on the bus, the views were spectacular and Graham was an unbelieable host! I have been on many Viator tours around the world and Graham is the best host we have ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable about his home country, and shared lots of interesting information. He engaged all of the bus passengers and made sure we all were introduced. We were very impressed that he remembered everyones name and really added to the experience of the trip. We would highly recommend.

Our guide Bob was very helpful and fun. We stopped the bus in many cool sites to take pics on our way to the Fiords. I requested a veggie BBQ which was pretty good. We saw seals, penguins and many birds.

Our great guide/driver was able to get us to the Milford Sound Cruise safely. The road had been closed the day before and the morning before we arrived due to bad weather. He did a great job and the sights were beyond belief! Words cannot express the natural beauty. I have traveled to over 60 countries and this is easily the best tour I have ever taken.

This tour was the experience of a lifetime. Our tour guide/driver/BBQ master Rob was great and I really liked his sense of humor. It's a small group tour ours had maybe 10 people which makes the trip so much more enjoyable in my opinion. The BBQ was amazing and the sights we're magnificent. Very rarely do you find a tour that is not only MAGNIFICENT scenery/lunch/knowledge earned, but also wish the guide were in your family. Nigel was funny, kind, and beyond wise, not just with the land of New Zealand and Fiordlands, but life too! It was comfortable, yet had us on the edge of our seat to see what we'd see around the next turn. I am so thankful for the size of the tour, as others were giant charter busses with people flowing in and out. Ours was so personal! It felt a bit awkward to eat an incredible kebab meal on board the boat while people from other tours salivated in envy, but that's not something to complain about. I will recommend this to all and hopefully return one day to do it again.

It was a beautiful drive to get to the sound. Our tour guide was super! We stopped by a lovely stream for lunch. On the way home we stopped for ice cream and then got to watch a movie filmed in New Zealand. It made the 3 hour ride home go quickly.

Our driver Rob provided great tidbits of info and hilarious commentary on our tour to Milford Sound, the smaller group does make it quite an intimate but enjoyable setting. The cruise is shared with a group from a larger coach however only the BBQ bus has access to the BBQ lunch. Food was delicious and the views were magnificent!! We even spotted some fur seals! Would highly recommend this tour if you're after a great day trip to Milford Sound.

This was a great day out. I ould highly recommend this for anyone who wants a more initmate trip to Milford Sound, rather than the large coaches. Comfortable bus, great sights despite the rain and tasty barbecue.
