After a 45-minute drive from Rotorua you will arrive at the Hobbiton Movie Set, constructed on a working New Zealand sheep farm and one of the last remaining structures from the famous Lord of the Rings films.
You’ll explore the Hobbiton Movie Set and village, where Bilbo Baggins lived and the quest for the ring began. Have your photo taken in front of a hobbit hole or the by the pond while your guide entertains you with the stories and insider dish about filming these Hollywood blockbusters in New Zealand.

We had beautiful weather and enjoyed this experience. The landscape is beautiful and I loved the gardens and flowers. The clothes on the clotheslines made me smile. Our guide was knowledgeable and we enjoyed learning information about the making of the movies.

How wonderful to be able to visualise the Hobbiton movie set. This amazing place enabled you to relive the movies and see the house of Bilbo Baggins and all the other Hobbits. We had a very knowledgeable guide named Charlotte who kept us in the loop with sites and gave us plenty of time for photos. Even our bus driver Danny kept us entertained with his commentary on the way there. Complimentary drink at the Green Dragon and then back home.Great adventure.

It was quite disappointing that we were not allowed to roam freely to explore the sets ourselves. The place was absolutely packed and we felt like sheep being herded around the sets, very little opportunity to stop and look as there was another tour group right behind us. Not really worth the money.!

Beautiful place but hard to enjoy and take good pictures. Too many people allowed in at once! Tour groups on top of each other. Lost out on part of the commentary as guide started taking before we were all close enough to hear. Was not quite the magical experience we hoped for.

After reading the books years ago and seeing the movies I didnt expect Hobbiton to measure up to my expectations.... but I was proven wrong. Hobbiton is outstanding! The gardens make it seem so lived-in and the Green Dragon was so neat. Peter Jackson and the Alexander family have done a wonderful job.

From a Grandma who hasn't seen The Hobbit or any of the the Lord of The Ring movies this was without a doubt one of the best experiences I have had, my three grandchildren were absolutely blown away by the tour from the Pick up at by our driver Danny alias Tom_br/_ He was a wealth of knowledge with lots of great information. He kept us entertained and gave us lots of good tips on our trip. Loved it well worth booking a tour with Viator. THE BEST

Even though it was cold and pouring rain, I would still recommend this tour! Our bus driver was funny and informative, the tour guide at the sight was knowledgeable and very helpful. I was there in September, which explains the poor weather, but with fewer fellow tourists, you get a better view!

This as a bucket list trip that met and exceeded our expectations. What the people running this have done is create a well oiled machine that allows visitors to travel to Middle Earth and experience the Shire. My sincere congratulations to everyone involved in this venture. It was an amazing experience to walk around and appreciate the scale of the undertaking. Pretty decent amunt of time permitted around the Hobbit Holes and in the Green Dragon.

Very fun tour, about a hour bus drive from Rotorua. A beautiful setting which makes you want to see the movies again. You get an pale ale or cider in the Green Dragon which is good but they only gave us 15 minutes in the crowded Shire gift shop which was disappointing.

Wow, can't say enough about this tour. Hobbiton set is amazing, guide was great, plenty of time to take photos as we walked around. Bus driver didn't allow us any time to shop for souvenirs at the end of the tour so was VERY FRUSTRATING. We actually had to make an itinerary change to go back on our own. Also, Tucker, our bus driver, was very nice but was falling asleep during the drive back to Rotorua. I had to keep talking to him to keep him alert. He crossed the center line a lot! It was scary.

Well organised. Interesting commentary from coach driver en route to location. Good commentary and interesting information and detail provided by tour guide. Time provided to take lots of photos. Overall, good value for money, but it is packed with coach tours so limited time to look round at end of tour, but there is time allowed to stop at the souvenir/gift shop selling mostly poor and tacky items.

Outstanding! I can't fault it. The Hobbiton village is so beautiful. Much larger than I expected and appears fully functional with vegetable gardens, washing on the clothes lines, flowers everywhere, I think there are 39 little houses, a pub and wheelhouse and lakes. I was gobsmacked. It was perfect because we also had fantastic weather.

We enjoyed the Hobbiton tour a lot! Emily gave us a lot of interesting details about the set. The only thing I would have changed is the size of the group...42 tourists crowding around one guide made it difficult to hear her. I think 20 would have been a more realistic number to comprise a group.

This is an outstanding 1/2 day tourist adventure. Everything is taken care for you and the movie set is kept in pristine condition. Highly recommended and walking around the set is amazing. Great photo opportunities. Excellent value for money.

The Hobbiton Movie Set was amazing. There were more Hobbiton doors than I had expected. There was also a complimentary drink at the end of the tour. Recommend travelling to the venue on your own if possible as the premium for the travel from Rotorua cost quite a bit.

The movie set was fantastic and there were lots of fun NZ tips on the drive up however, there seemed to be some confusion when we first arrived on the bus. We ended up sitting on the bus for a solid 15 minutes while the driver was chatting with some tour guides below but we were never told how long we would need to wait or what was going on. The free beer was a nice treat too. I wish we had had longer to sit and enjoy it. The tour was absolutely worth it in the end though!
