This popular kayak tour will allow you to kayak the La Jolla sea caves and ecological reserve, which boasts an amazing array of scenery and wildlife you can't find anywhere else in San Diego. As you paddle alongside your expert naturalist/biologist guide, keep an eye out for sea lions, dolphins and even an orca!
No experience is needed! Your knowledgable guide will help you learn the basics and tour you around one of the premier eco-tourist destinations in San Diego.
After a brief paddle instruction and safety talk, you'll take your kayak down to the beach in La Jolla Shores and paddle to the La Jolla Sea Caves taking in the gorgeous views and watching for the abundant wildlife. You'll also go through the incredible rock formations and caves (if conditions permit), through the expansive kelp forests and wildlfie hot spots and cap it all off with a kayak surf ride back to the beach.
You can see numerous types of sea birds and usually sea lions, seals and sometimes dolphins or even orcas!
What to Expect:
Be prepared to get wet! For safety reasons, the tour operator does not guarantee going into the caves on tours. Entrance to caves based on
ocean conditions, safety and participants ability as determined by
guide.
This tour is recommended for ages 6 and up. Participants must be able to swim.
Tour was great...friendly staff, well organized, easygoing, and fun! Saw lots of wildlife. Comfortable pace of tour, we did a fair amount of paddling but it was split up nicely not to feel too difficult. Recommend going in singles unless you and your paddle partner are super in sync!

It was a great experience going into the caves and seeing the sea lions so close! We are a family of four with two teens and they loved!

We had a great time! The guides were knowledgable about not only the fish in the ocean, the mountains landscape, and the caves.

Myself and my two teenage girls went out with two guides and two couples. We really enjoyed it. The guides were very friendly, funny and informative. While it does take some strength to row, it's not an extreme effort. The girls did fine in the kayak together, and I did fine by myself. We got to see some wild life and go inside the cave. We'd certainly do it again, and recommend the tour. The only problem we encountered was parking. Be very prepared to walk 2-3 blocks to get to the place, so arrive early. Other than that, you'll have to walk a little ways to the beach, so if your feet are sensitive, bring water shoes. Ultimately, it's worth the trip and time.

Great guides, great views. So much fun to be out on the water and get some background on the houses, the environment, and efforts to keep the ocean there pristine. The cave was interesting thought not really a focus. If the water is rough don't expect to go in since the guides have to guide you in by swimming in-between two boats. We went in and were greeted by two seals about 10 feet away on a ledge. Worth the time and would do it again.

We had an amazing time kayaking on the sea caves adventures. The guides were knowledgeable of the area and professional. We would do this again just wish we brought the go pro to take pictures!!

This was not as advertised you don't go into the caves and explore you just go kayaking

Sea Kayak tour was good...perfect length at 2 hours. Go early because parking is very difficult to find. They have rental lockers at the place but many weren't working properly and we had to take everything to our car, which was a pain, but overall the tour was really good.

Great guides. Problem is we didn and #39;t get to go in the caves. Maybe don and #39;t title the tour La Jolla Sea Caves if not going in....regardless of sea conditions, find a way to tour in by the land route then after the kayak portion not just leave us unsatisfied.

Pretty disappointed with this tour. Parking is VERY challenging in the area of the shop and the shop itself was chaotic -- communication with patrons who most likely have never been in the shop before to know what was going on was almost non-existent and communication between themselves appeared poor, as well. Fortunately, we were familiar with kayaking as NO time was taken to instruct those that were not and that failure led to other problems as there was frequent need to wait for those that were struggling. The 'caves' themselves -- or the one small cave we saw -- was really unremarkable.

We had a great time with a great tour guide. To Kayak in the cove was really beautiful and a unique experience. Our guide, Dawood, really spent time and effort making sure we all were informed and involved in the experience. His enthusiasm about the natural diversity and beauty was great. He was respectful and friendly . I brought 2 teenage boys and we all had fun. It was a memorable experience._br/_ Rebecca

Loved the variety of sea life we encountered and how knowledgeable our guide was. She shared with us not just information about the coast, but also her passion for environmental conservation. Unfortunately we could not access the Sea Caves due to sea conditions. Bonus: she pointed us to some fantastic places for fish tacos in the area. Great way to enjoy La Jolla.

Yes!!!! This was my first time kayaking and it was amazing!!! La Jolla is beautiful and to see it from that view is pretty special. The guides were both awesome!_br/_ Unfortunatly we did not get to go into the caves due to HUGE waves. But we did see a sea lion UP CLOSE and personal. So fun!

Knowledgable guides and amazing tour. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who loves the ocean and marine ecosystem. Great value for the money spent and doable even for those who've never kayaked before.

My husband and I did the tandem kayak and we were very close to 375 pounds. The guide should have recommended that we do separate kayaks because we did not have an easy time manuevering our kayak. The waves were pretty big that day and we were unable to go into the caves which they do warn you about. I would recommend that if it is your first rime kayaking to not do it on the ocean. The guides were knowledgable and nice.

We had a wonderful time and Graham the guide from Ireland couldn't have been more fun. Super easy tandem kayak, beautiful day and kits of critters to see. The inside of the cave was cool. Historically fascinating piece of LA Jolla.

What a gorgeous adventure for this first time kayaker! Our guide Nick was wonderful. Hike Bike Kayak takes small groups out as compared to other companies that were in the water at the same time as us. Our tour was much more personal and always within earshot of the guide

Our guide, Brian was excellent! My boyfriend and I are land-locked city kids and neither of us had any experience with kayaking. But, our guide was patient and informative, which made our excursion fantastic! I would recommend taking some Dramamine beforehand. I don't usually get sea sick, but I was not feeling well towards the end of the tour.

We had a great time with our group of six. Although the shop was very crowded the morning of our tour, we were all processed quickly and efficiently with our life jackets and helmets. After a short walk to the beach, we broke into much smaller groups and were assigned a personal guide. David took our group of 3 tandem kayaks and he was great with our small group. He was very knowledgeable about the area and taught us San Diegans quite a few things we didn't know about the area. The tour of the sea cave and the ride back to the shore on the waves were the highlights of the trip. I would definitely recommend this company and trip to others.

Joe our guide was awesome and this tour was amazing! We never kayaked before and after quick tutorial and safety gear, we were off in the ocean. We did the tandem which was easier to row. Visited some caves and saw sea lions up close. After tour was over, we spent day on beach.

If you love nature this tour is definitely a must! Although the weather could have been better our tour was amazing. We got close up to the see lions and also got to go into the cave since it was fortunately only cloudy and cold, not windy. I also appreciated that the tour was not only going to the caves and back, but that our guide provided us with information about the sea life and the La Jolla area.
Review by: Brenda J, January 2014
Didn't get to go near the caves as the ocean was pretty active that day but the tour guide was bet knowledgeable and did a great job of pointing out really neat stuff to the group. Great for both kids and adults.
