While you’re in port in San Diego, explore the city by both land and sea on the San Diego Seal Tour – the Southern California version of the duck tour. On an amphibious vehicle that travels on land and in water, you’ll spend this shore excursion driving along the waterfront and splashing into San Diego Bay. It’s a fun-filled adventure for the whole family.
This 90-minute shore excursion is a fantastic way to see the best of the San Diego waterfront and San Diego Bay during your limited time in port. On an amphibious vehicle that drives both on land and in water, you’ll depart from Seaport Village, located on Harbor Drive at the Embarcadero.
As you travel along the beautiful bay by land, you will hear stories of early sailors and the history of the bay. You also will learn about the importance of the military in San Diego, home to several US Navy and US Marine stations. Pass by San Diego International Airport, dedicated to aviator Charles Lindbergh, just one of the many people you will hear about on your San Diego Seal Tour.
Then, you will splash down into San Diego Bay from Shelter Island, where you begin the water portion of the journey. As the seal boat travels through the north end of the Big Bay, as it’s often called, keep your eyes peeled for a chance encounter with a California brown pelican. The Big Bay provides views of Point Loma (home to the Cabrillo National Monument), Naval Air Station North Island, the Point Loma Submarine Base and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The area is also a popular playground for seals and sea lions, so don’t look away from the water for a second!
You will head back and land and return to your starting point via Harbor Drive, passing the Maritime Museum and cruise ship terminal along the way.
Tour route is subject to change without notice due to weather or traffic conditions.
Please note: This excursion is located within a 5-minute walk to the cruise port, so you determine the time you return to your ship in San Diego port. Please allow yourself ample time to enjoy the excursion and ensure your timely return to the port. This excursion is not covered by our worry-free policy.

This is soo much fun and quite relaxing ! Captain Charlie and his first mate guarantee a good time while also providing tons of information. Even our teen and tween forgot their "cool" attitude and enjoyed it big time !

I liked the tour. It was a little cold because there are no windows, so I totally suggest taking a sweater. I really liked the part where we went into the ocean. We got cool info about the marines life and all the different military things they do at the naval base. The best part about the tour was the seals. They were too cute and there were so many of them. It would be cool to do this tour again.
