Tequila, Tacos and Tombstones Culinary Tour

San Diego, United States of America

The Tequila, Tacos and Tombstones Culinary Tour offers you the chance to sample some of the finest cuisine in San Diego’s Old Town! While you explore this historic district, the site of the first European settlers in California, you’ll sample delicious libations and get a taste of some of the district’s 25 restaurants. If you love authentic Mexican cuisine, or American history, Old Town won’t disappoint.

The Tequila, Tacos and Tombstones tour lets you walk on the ghoulish side of San Diego – the Old Town district, also known as the “Birthplace of California,” is one of San Diego’s most fun and interesting neighborhoods. It’s also considered by some to be haunted, so grab a friend’s hand if you get spooked while walking past El Campo Santo Cemetery and the Whaley House (officially designated as a haunted house by the US government). Old Town is also home to original adobe homes from the early 19th century.

As you’re exploring Old Town, you’ll taste authentic Mexican cuisine and enjoy small samples of tequila and cocktails, so come hungry; by the end of the tour you’ll have had the equivalent of a full meal.

A wonderful way to spend an evening in San Diego, this culinary walking tour will dazzle your taste buds, titillate your sixth sense and appeal to your sense of adventure – plus you can brush up on your California history.

This is the best tour ever!!!! Our guide was wonderful.!!!!! She had lots of great information stories. Her knowledge of the area is outstanding. We had so much good food. If you only have time for one tour , take this one. The night was lovely. The walk enjoyable. And again our guide was fantastic.

Guide was nice and organized. But tour felt like a bit of a sham and not worth the price. Margaritas were good, tacos not so great. Aside from restaurant stops the tour takes place on street. There are a couple of ghost stories and that's about it. We saw another ghost tour, might be a better deal.

Would have been better if we were told ahead of time we would be eating what amounted to a good size supper when all the stops are included. Very tasty and historically informative. Highly recommend it. Our guide Kevin provided a good amount of historical information on Old Town.

The food was great but it was difficult for our guide as we were a family with another younger couple. We did not have a lot in common to get the group to bond...but I would reccommend it.

We were really looking forward to enjoying the drinks and food along with learning a bit of history. Rochelle was friendly and enjoyed telling stories of Old Town. It was a perfect evening weather wise and we did meet some friendly people. We have been on several city food tours where there is more mingling of participants however we found that those who were in groups of fours stuck to themselves and were hard to socialize with. We also felt like the size of the group was too large 20 /- people.

Fun and tasty tour of Old Town. Had good margarita's and tacos at each stop. You will get full, don't worry. Each restaurant stop give you enough time to sit, chat and order drinks at the bar if you're that thirsty.

We usually love this kind of tour - small group, led by a local, history, etc. Unfortunately, this one didn't quite meet expectations. A lot of waiting. Not a lot of history or information. The guide was a nice enough person, but this was what I expect from a $10 tour - not a $50 tour.

We had a nice walk learning local history through Old Town stopping at several restaurants where we sampled food and drinks. We were pleasantly surprised at how much food you actually received and the interesting ways familiar foods were prepared. We do not drink alcoholic beverages and all the merchants were very nice about making special drinks for us. Where we stopped for dessert of root beer floats at end of tour there was a very nice patio area near by with a free live band where we sat for a while.

Only 1 and 1/2 margaritas. The taco at the first restaurant was good but the food at the other two restaurants just so so. Not much history except for the cemetary but even that seemed to be all guess work. I would have preferred another margarita over the root beer float, it upset my stomach. The tour was not worth the money.

Taco and margaritas at first stop weren't very good, but the tacos, quesadilla, churros and margaritas at the next three stops were good. Graveyard tour was very interesting, and our tour guide was excellent. Nice small group, just 8 of us.

This tour seemed to be relatively new and had some kinks to work out. The meeting address had changed since I booked it, so it's vital to reconfirm with the tour group. One of the restaurants seemed a little unprepared for our group, but all of the food was exceptional and the drinks were outstanding. The stories of the places on the tour were a little urban legend-ish, but it was probably meant to be more entertaining than educational. This tour is a great way to visit several of the excellent restaurants in Old Town San Diego and get a feel for the sights there - Old Town is really worth the visit. The guide was very nice and accomodating. This tour is probably best for adults - I brought my 11 yr old son and he was a little freaked out by the ghost stories in the cemetery at night. I wouldn't say it's inappropriate for kids, just that it's going to depend on how well your kid handles ghost stories (and we brought him a bottled drink along since I didn't - and still don't - know if the restaurants would provide soft drinks.) Overally, it was a fun little tour and a good way to explore Old Town.

I really enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it! it is a great way to visit the Old Town in San Diego and learn a bit more about the birthplace of California. Our guide Michelle was lovely. We had some great tacos and tequilas, going from one restaurant to another. It was a small group of nice people and the atmosphere in the restaurants were very cheerful.

This tour was a great introduction to the Old Town of San Diego! We tried a few local specialties which were very tasty, and we really enjoyed the fact that we were in 4 different local restaurants in one evening, and trying different typical food and drinks. We also loved that it felt like being in Mexico for the evening, but without having to travel there and feeling very safe! I would really recommend it!
