Walking Tour of Fisherman's Wharf and North Beach with Cable Car Ride and optional Alcatraz Ticket

San Francisco, United States of America

Take this guided walking tour and see the best that San Francisco has to offer! Visit the famous Fisherman’s Wharf, take in fantastic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and visit Washington Square in North Beach. You’ll also see key attractions such as Lombard Street, Coit Tower, and have the option to visit the legendary Alcatraz Island. After your tour, receive a ticket to ride the famous San Francisco cable car and continue to explore the city on your own!

Join a small-group walking tour of Fisherman’s Wharf and North Beach in San Francisco. To begin the 2-hour tour, your local guide will first take you to a location with a fantastic view of the marina and the Golden Gate Bridge, where you’ll stop for a great photo opportunity. Then, explore Fisherman’s Wharf and continue to Lombard Street, known as one of the world’s most crooked streets.

Next, take a scenic walk towards North Beach. The best way to explore this San Francisco neighborhood is to take a walking tour. Here, see Washington Square and the Saints Peter and Paul Church. You’ll start to see why North Beach is known as the Italian neighborhood as you pass the numerous Italian restaurants and gelato shops.

Leaving North Beach, get the insider’s tour of the back alleys and all the secrets they have to offer. Your tour guide will show you a hidden staircase and path that winds its way up to Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill, where you’ll take in breathtaking 360-degree views of the city. End the tour at Levi’s Plaza, where your guide will provide you with a cable car ticket so that you can continue to explore San Francisco at your leisure.

Alcatraz Option
If you select the Alcatraz option, you will visit Alcatraz in the morning and meet your walking tour guide at 2:30pm.  –  Take the ferry to Alcatraz Island, one of San Francisco’s most popular attractions, and take the award-winning audio tour to learn about the famous escape from Alcatraz, the prison's notorious inmates and much more!

A very informative and fun tour of a great part of San Francisco finding out things about the city that we would otherwise not have known. Don, our guide, was great fun and very knowledgeable and was able to adapt his tour to accommodate some requirements of other members of the group. Some great recommendations for places to eat

Our walking tour was great. Don is a fabulous guide. Don really knows the city and is willing to go the extra mile if you truly want to. Having the tour in the morning was exceptional because crowds hadn't started to really form yet. This was a highlight of our trip. Thanks!

What a great tour! I got confused about the meeting time and Kelsey called me when we were on our way and the tour group was already departing, she made sure I was able to meet Don, our guide on another street. We met with them no problem. Don, our tour guide was knowledgeable and personable, we had a great time walking along Fisherman's Wharf, getting to see the actual fishing side of it, along North Beach, up to Coit Tower and looking at the beautiful views of the Bay area.

We had an excellent walking tour of San Francisco with Don! He ran the tour with only 4 of us, when I had been previously told they couldn't run it with less than 5 people. He even spent 3 1/2 hours walking us all around the city, when he was only required to do 2 hours! His commentary was great: very informative and a lot of fun, interesting facts. He also stopped at an Italian focaccia place, and bought some, and shared it with us! We also got some cable car tickets, and tickets to visit Alcatraz. Alcatraz was so fascinating, and a lot of fun! Overall, an excellent tour thanks to Don and Viator!

Our guide was brilliant very informal walk gave us lots of choices about where we should go on the tour. It ended up being a three hours as opposed to two. He showed us loads of things we would have never found ourselves and also recommended lots of great eating places too.

Something you can do on your own with a walking map. Guide was very good.

Don was an excellent host providing exceptional knowledge of the area. What a great city. I was very dissappointed that the cable car ride was ONLY 1 way and that you had to pay another 7.00 to get back. We were looking forward to this ride and because of this did not take it.

What a fantastic start to our holiday in San Francisco. We thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour, learnt a lot about the area and got a feel for the place on Day One of our trip. Don, our tour guide was excellent. Having lived all his life in this lovely city he was extremely knowledgeable and gave some great tips of places to eat and visit whilst we were in the area. Brilliant and highly recommended.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. We learned tons of history on San Francisco. I would recommend having atour guide for part of your trip, then go out exploring on your own.

It was raining n wet. No way to take photos as most scenes were not clear. Tour guide talked to us under the rain. Rushing through because of rain. Not much insights into various places. Guide didn't get Alcatraz tickets for us but told us queue n get ourselves. Not enjoyable trip.

This was our second day in San Francisco. As we were the only couple,Tony was able to personalise the trip to ensure that we were able to visit places we had not already been to. Especially enjoyed the walk round the wharf area and through the gardens from Coit Tower. Saw places that we would not have found without local knowledge.

This was a fun tour - we did it our 1st day in town to get a feel for the place. My mum and I were the only two people on the tour so that made it even better - a private tour at no extra cost. The guide knows and loves her city which is always so impotent and you get to see nooks and crannies that a normal tourist would never know about or simply walk past without knowing. Definitely a worthwhile tour if you want to ht the ground and get a feel for this great tangible city.

We booked this tour in August. All in all I think it is a very good deal. The walking tour was informative and the guide friendly. The tour lasted almost 3 hours. We purchased the Alcatraz option which is a must see. Truly a unique experience. Others who reviewed this tour mentioned the cable car tickets were only good on the date received. That was not the case for us. Our tickets were good anytime. One thing to note is that the cable cars are a tourist attraction so the lines at the beginning/end of the routes are very long (hour plus) and the cars are packed so you may wait a long time at a mid-point stop for a car with open spots. I would suggest taking the car after 7pm when the lines die down. Also the tickets are for a one way trip with no transfers so pay attention to where you get on or you might get a very short ride.

I felt rushed on this tour. We also didn't see much of north beach IMO. Would have been nice to concentrate slightly less on fisherman's wharf, but maybe I just chose the wrong walking tour!

Review by:   Taylor L,    June 2013 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The walking tour was ok... she gave some information regarding the area but it really wasn't that interesting overall. I felt like she was trying to sell us other tours instead of giving us information. We did not end up taking the Cable Car Ride because they don't tell you that only one cable car runs at a time and it was an hour and half wait to get on it. Alcatraz was awesome and definitely worth going on however you can do that on your own and not pay for the walking tour as well. That was the other issues, Viator does not give you the option to pick what time you would like to catch the ferry over to Alcatraz so my group of four was split up. When we called the company to have them change the times so we could all be together they said that it was our own fault for not picking out times all together but the website did not give us an option. Just buy a decent San Francisco travel guide book and do it on your own!

It was awesome! We had the best tour guide, she was knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. The walking tour was timed perfectly. I wish we would have had more time to enjoy the views from Coit tower. Alcatraz is a must see and has beautiful views of the city.

the tour of fishermans wharf was very informative, the walking tour thru the north beach area and up the hills to coit tower, all wonderful but very tiring for an older traveler, Alcatraz was incredible and the audio tour hauntingly real.

Excellent! The walking tour was very informative. I felt we were able to get more history and a better feel for the city than obviously on our own, or get off, get on bus tours. I highly recommend.
