Best of Shanghai Day Tour including Jade Buddha Temple and The Bund

Shanghai, China

See all the main sites of Shanghai, 'Paris of the Orient'. Your fully guided coach tour includes lunch as well as entry into the Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai Museum, Bund and Bund History Museum, Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai Old Street, Fresh Water Pearl Gallery, a silk factory and Xin Tian Di, Shanghai's entertainment district.

Your tour begins with Jade Buddha Temple. Built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1875-1909), it contains a priceless collection of jade statues from Burma. The temple is constructed in the magnificent architectural style of the Song Dynasty. Currently the temple houses the Shanghai Buddhist Institute.

Next stop is Fresh Water Pearl Gallery. You'll see the process of pearl cultivation and you may be the lucky participant to be presented with a single pearl.

People Square, in the heart of the city is a vast green area surrounded by great buildings on all sides. Here you have the opportunity to feed the doves to pray for the world peace.Shanghai Museum is a highlight of the tour. The museum design is in keeping with Feng Shui principles. It houses a great permanent collection and hosts various exhibitions with over 120,000 pieces thst showcase the 5000 years of China's history. We recommend you rent an audio phone (USD 5) to make the most of your 1.5 hours' visit.

After lunch, visit the enchanting Yuyuan Garden and Shanghai Old Street. The garden includes many halls, springs and other buildings of interest. The visit brings you back to Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1368-1644).

Continue to the Bund on Shanghai's waterfront. The Bund is Shanghai's most famous landmark and a symbol of old and new Shanghai. Four kilometers long, it has long been one of the most important areas of Shanghai. In the 1930s, the Bund was host to the city's financial and commercial centers.

At the silk factory, see how Chinese silk has been produced since the 14th century. There is also the option to to purchase the silk at low prices. After a drive along the former French Concession District, characterized by beautiful, tree-lined streets wander through Shanghai's hottest new entertainment district, Xin Tian Di. The brick buildings on these two-square blocks have been preserved and transformed into trendy clubs, restaurants and boutiques.

Unsatisfactory._br/_ I had a bad experience on the river tour with the same guide Frank the night before and I thought it might have been a bad day for him, but on the city tour was the same. always walking alone and did not worry that all the members of the group were with him. he answered the questions impolitely. during the tour he ran out of his mobile phone's battery and could not communicate with the driver so he could find us. We waited alone in a corner while he went to look for the driver through the streets while carrying the cell phone with the external battery of one of the participants. very unprofessional_br/_ about the places visited, we spent less than an hour in the museum, which was quite large and had many beautiful things to see. the temple was ok, the pearl and silk factory stops, too long and the vendors too insistent almost a waste of time. lunch quite poor. the stop in the garden was the best of the day.

My tour ended up being a private tour, including a guide, driver and lunch. The tour guide was very flexible to what my interests were and how much time I wished to stay at each attraction. I think that receiving a truly private tour may be a bit rare, but as I was in the offseason January, it was great timing.

not a good tour. The girl that was my guide was just like: this is this and this is that. She didnt have real knowledge of the historic places. Also, I made some questions to her and she couldnt answer properly, and at times she was rude. For example I asked if in China its ok to put vinegar or soy sauce to rice and her answer was Im shocked by your question, of course not!.--but come on! Im a tourist! thats why I want to know those details and ask freely and I dont expect to be judged by tourist guide. Also, dduring the day it was pouring rain and there were no umbrellas provided from the company to customers...which was really bad. Overall, it felt more like a taxi driver taking me to places and a companion going with me to those places, adding no additional value to the places I saw. Also the english of this tour guide was terrible, I could understand only 3 out of 10 words she spoke. It sounded like she was speaking chinese with some english in between. I wouldnt recommend this tour :

We didn't enjoy our time on the best of Shanghai. The Jade Buddha Temple was really cool. I feel we could have just taken a taxi there and avoided the fee for the Viator tour. We got to the silk factory It was literally one mill where they give you about a 10-minute explanation on how silk is created then the next hour is a sales pitch. Same thing happened at the pearl factor which is just a store on the bund she showed us how to tell real from fake pearls then tried to sell us. It felt as if the driver/tour guide got a kickback if we bought something. The food was typical American Chinese food we'd get in the states. We didn't even have a choice of what to eat. I would have much rathered have him say we have this much to spend and if we want anything above that amount, we would have to make up the difference. We ended up ditching the tour midway through and walked back to our hotel.

I really enjoyed this tour. We saw some nice sights, and i got to meet other travellers aswell. We had a good time : The only downside is that the pick up during the morning took 2 hours. The people who were picked up first had to sit that long and go from hotel to hotel. Because of this, the guide really stressed through the sites.

Was disappointed we were taken to both a silk factory and a pearl shop to try and get us to purchase stuff. If I wanted to go shopping, I could find plenty of locations to do that in Shanghai on my own. The tour took us to the Shanghai Museum, but we stood in line for about 45 minutes which was the same amount of time we had inside. The provided lunch was ok, but definitely a hole in the wall type of place. The biggest benefit of this tour was that it took us to the highlights of the city by private van. But could also have seen all of them just as easily by taking the clean, safe, cheep and efficient subway system in Shanghai.

We were a little disappointed with this tour. Firstly the vehicle was an estate car and very difficult to get in and out of if you were unfortunate to get the rear seats. Secondly our guide seemed in somewhat of a rush and many of us felt that we only glossed over the highlights. The museum at the beginning of the tour was very interesting but our trip to the Bund seemed rushed mainly due to the obligatory visit to a Jade and Pearl shop. Our small group of 4 refused to visit the Silk shop and asked to move directly to the Old City and even that seemed rushed. I would have liked to spend time wondering the shops but we apparently didnt have time for that. As for the French Quater, the area we were taken to comprised 1small street lined with restaurants which we literally ran through. That was it and the tour ended at 3pm. Thankfully we asked and were taken back to the Old City instead of our hotel so as not to completely waste the afternoon. I would not recommend this tour.

This is a great one-day tour of Shanghai. You were able to see all the highlights and learn about the city. Rita was an amazing tour guide. The only downside was the rain if you didn't have an umbrella you could purchase one from a local vendor.

Though the sites were nice and the guide was nice, the people who run the company are a rip off. I chose my date by what my ticket said. Being a first time international traveler I did not know of a time or day difference. I though that my itinerary would properly reflect that. So I booked the day before I arrived, and when I arrived explained that to them. They said it's not our problem, you pay the 200 fee now... Wow, talk about putting a sour taste in my mouth for the whole experience. How could I enjoy myself after being ripped off?? And they include a meal with the trip which you eat with everyone else in the group, family style. They don't tell you what the food is and bottled water is not inlcuded. Tap water is...eww! Yes, I got sick, I've been sick for 3 weeks because of the water and food. So no, I really don't have anything nice to say overall.

Whirlwind overview -- great when you have very limited time and Shanghai, or when you want the survey so you know where to return for a deeper look. The last stop was the French section -- it would have been great to have time to stop at one of the cafe/tea houses for light refreshment at the end of the day.

Timely pick up from the hotel. Shanghai museum was nice but not enough time to see everything. Museum is free of charge to everybody and would be better to go there by yourself and spend more time. We were a little bit rushed thru the Jade Buddha Temple, impressive Temple. Lunch was good and walk on the Bund was short as well as the walk thru French Concession. Good tour if u r short time in Shanghai.

Tour guide was called Frank. He gave excellent information regarding all aspects of Shanghai past and present and informed us about each place visited with enthusiasm and was keen to answer any questions asked. Frank added to the enjoyment of this trip which was one of the most interesting and enjoyable excursion we have ever made. The variety of places visited gave a good insight into Shanghai life, in fact Frank made this trip most enjoyable in every way. Cannot recommend more highly. Photos not to hand yet.

I went on this tour because I tried the other Viator tours and they were great, but this one not so much. I also saw many positive reviews here - well, we should already know how positive reviews are forged on the Internet. Specifically, people praised the guide Frank - yes, he is knowledgeable, but he was very hard to hear, his manner of presentation was not very good, and I think he didn't actually care. On the other Viator tours the guides spoke loud were equipped with loudspeakers, I never had problems hearing even in much larger groups. In places like temples and museums the tourists are given receivers, so everyone can hear even if the guide speaks softly. Speaking of which, he left us in a museum to ramble around on our own - we'll meet at 10:40 in the lobby, he said. There were organized groups with guides in this museum, and guides at the other Viator tours would walk us around and talk about things, but not this one.

While Shanghai is a city that requires more than a day to get to know, this tour is as close is one is ever going to get. Our guide and driver were great, constantly informing of local history yet looking after the group like a wise instructor. Great experience!

We were just two of us in this tour, me and my wife. This part was OK. Our tour rushed us through the sites that fast that we did not have time to enjoy each and any of this places. Silk factory is actually a showroom in which the main objective is to make you buy stuff from there which is actually not bad stuff, but a little more expensive than in Shouzou. At the pearl gallery we were supposed to learn about how pearls are produced - instead another showroom from where you can buy pearls and jade. A tour to take only if you don't have time to visit the objectives by yourself.
