Experience the most spectacular hike in the Victoria area on this 4.5-hour adventure with a local photographer. See the stunning vistas of Finlayson Arm, the Gowlland Range, and the Olympic Mountains on this 3.6-mile (6-kilometer) journey with 650 feet (200 meters) of elevation gain. This guided tour includes transportation, professional photo (emailed), snack, fruit, water, a dash of Vancouver Island's fascinating history, plus some incredible scenery, and great fun, of course. The difficulty level is considered moderate and the maximum group size is six people. Victoria area hotel pickup and drop-off included.
This tour begins with a 9am pickup from any Victoria-area hotel. The Gowlland Tod Hike is close to town but far enough away to experience the natural beauty of the area separated from the city. This tour is approximately 30 kilometers from downtown, starting from a lesser-known hiking trail that leads into Gowlland Tod Provincial Park.
After a 15-minute climb, the trail levels off to the first view of Finlayson Arm, the beautiful fjord that cuts deep into Vancouver Island near Victoria. From here, the hike rises gradually while walking among Grand Fir and Arbutus trees. Along the hike, the guide will add a dash of Vancouver Island’s fascinating history.
Next, leave the main trail to descend down to a rock platform with an amazing perspective. Then the final ascent moves to the top, at about 1,400 feet (430 meters) above sea level. Depending on the weather, see stunning vistas of Finlayson Arm, the small mountains in front of Victoria, the Juan De Fuca Strait, and the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. Remember to breathe.
Required equipment: Hiking boots or good hiking/running shoes (no sandals please) and a light jacket, depending on weather.
This was by far one of the best tours our family has experienced! The guide, Mark, was fantastic and extremely attentive to our safety and to making sure we were having a good time. Although I thought the hike was challenging could be because I am a bit out of shape...too many great pastries here in Victoria, the rest of my family had no issues with the hike/climb up and down the mountain. The scenery was beautiful, and the pictures that we were able to get were priceless. I honestly can't say enough about this tour except to do it...you won't regret it! Cheers to you Mark for the highlight of our trip to lovely Victoria, British Columbia.
