While a brisk stroll is one way to admire this nightly light show, why not cover more ground on a Segway tour of Chinatown, North Beach and the Embarcadero? It’s a rare opportunity to take this two-wheeler on the streets of some of San Francisco’s most famous neighborhoods after dark. Your guide keeps you, family and friends on track with fun trivia and facts about the sights you pass, and there are plenty of stops to take photos along the way.
Join a troupe of Segway riders on Beach Street, along Fisherman’s Wharf, to gear up for your evening ride with a 40-minute safety orientation. Along with a helmet and safety vest, you’ll get hooked up with a radio device so you don’t miss any of your guide’s commentary along the way. Once you feel comfortable on your two-wheeler, hit the streets to see Chinatown, North Beach, Fisherman’s Wharf and the Embarcadero lit up at night. It’s a great way to see the city in a new light!
Depart from Beach Street to head up to North Beach, or what locals consider the city’s Little Italy. The streets are flanked by bustling Italian restaurants, with the scent of authentic warm dishes wafting from the doorways. Imagine the Beat poets and artists who once roamed the neighborhood as your guide shares history about the counterculture movement at Washington Square Park by Saints Peter and Paul Church.
Cruise over to nearby Chinatown, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. Along the lantern-lit streets, peer into dim sum houses, admire temples and appreciate souvenirs that dangle from windows and spill over display tables. If you visit in mid-winter, expect to see festive decorations in honor of the Chinese New Year.
From Chinatown, head east toward the waterfront to take in the Bay Bridge, which appears to be dressed in tinsel; it’s actually a light sculpture known as Bay Lights. Continue along the Embarcadero past the Ferry Building to Fisherman’s Wharf for a look at the historic piers and harbors. Enjoy nighttime views of Alcatraz and Fisherman's Wharf before ending your Segway tour at the start point.
Not only was the weather perfect, but our small group of four was led by a wonderful tour guide, AG. AG was knowledgeable of the areas history, which made it fun to hear about the lesser known facts of SF. Not only did she tell us about he history and culture of the neighborhoods, she let us in on a few good places to eat, too. This was my second tour and the two were different, which I liked a lot.

Prep time a little boring, but tour was a very memorable time. Stop for some dim sum - was great. There were six in our party and all had a great time. We now look for similar tours when traveling. Do it!

The staff and guides were great and had us all up and running within about 20 minutes. I think next time i would opt for the park tour as the traffic was so bad during parts of the tour we ended up spending a lot of time stuck in one place.

My family did night tour with Tre, the whole experience went very smooth from training to getting on the road. Guide was very informative, fun and always kept eye out for the safety of the group. Highly recommend seeing city on a Segway.

What a great time, and a great way to see the city. Carlos, our tour guy, was fun, informative and lead us on an adventure seeing parts of the city we would never had seen on our own. The portion of the tour in Chinatown was highlight of the evening. I highly recommend this tour. Not to mention, the Segway is a blast to use. We can't wait to try another Segway tour.

If you like fun activity and want to have a good time, you have to try this. I was a bit nervous at first because I'm not good with keeping balance but the crash course at the begging of the tour helped a lot. The company is very careful with our safety. Tyler, our guide, is so patient and calm and just coooool! Thanks a for good time, Tyler the extraordinary tour guide :P

We were a little nervous trying Segway for the first time on the roads of San Francisco at night but the tour from start to finish was excellent. We had Aaron as our tour guide who was a genuinely nice and friendly guy who didn't seem as though he was doing it for the tips. The training at the start was really helpful and gave you confidence before you set off. After we started to explore the streets Aaron was extremely knowledgable about the city and gave a lot of information throughout the evening and was happy to take photos of everyone. It was a stand out tour and one of the best we did on our multi city trip to the USA. The Segways were excellent and I'd like to get my own now! I like the way Aaron never mentioned anything about tips and there were no signs about it like many of the other tours we went on, this was a nice touch and he deserves tipping highly for his excellent customer care and service. Highly recommended.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to be riding around the roads of San Francisco on a Segway was brilliant tour guide was very funny and great entertainment to. Perhaps the tour went on a little bit to long, but still was brilliant and great fun for all ages.

This is an awesome tour. 14 year old daughter and wife went with me. Papa duck, a.k.a.Devon, is a charming tour guide. Great informative tales of " the City" with a great flair of humor. We will be back. The group we were with became like family.

This was more fun than I could have imagined. I was worried that I would feel awkward on the segway, but it was a very natural feeling kind of like skiing, I'm told. The guide was great and the training was just right. We learned a lot and it was just so amazing being able to do that in the city at night. Be warned that you are going to be on your feet keeping balance and everything for about 3 hours, so do your stretches before you go! We can't wait to go back and do all of the rest of their tours. For a family of 4, I gulped a little bit when I paid for us all, but it was WELL worth the price!!!

The best tour I've ever taken in San Francisco. The training and support provided by the staff made learning the segway no problem. This is a must do and I can't wait to try out the other segway tours around the bay.

I liked our guide and the place was really good with safety and making sure we were all prepared but the tour itself was not very interesting or engaging. You advertised lantern lit lights of Chinatown...but they are not lit up...we did not stop for photos anywhere along the tour although you advertised photos stops. You advertised stops at Hyde Street and a chance to check out the light installation that makes the bay bridge glitter...we never went near the Bay Bridge. We never saw Alcatraz lit up at night. We did not end our tour on a sweet note at Ghiradelli square.

I went for the Halloween tour at night. Unfortunately the wireless receive and headphones to hear the guide were very poor quality so I had a hard time hearing him while riding and missed quite a lot. That being said, riding around San Francisco on segways was a whole lot of fun and I got to see areas I wouldn't have otherwise checked out. The guide was also more than happy to repeat what I missed during breaks in the tour and afterwards so I felt like that helped partially make up for missing so much. He was extremely knowledgeable and there were a lot of great historical stories I learned about regarding certain areas or specific buildings or landmarks. I'd definitely recommend this tour if I could hear better. If part of the reason you're considering the tour is just to ride segways like it was for me, then it's worth it. But make sure you can hear well BEFORE leaving on the tour so they can replace your receiver and/or headset (that was my mistake). Better yet, bring your own headphones.

THIS WAS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR TRIP. SAFETY WAS A PRIORITY SO WE WERE GIVEN PLENTY OF PRACTICE TIME BEFORE COMMENCING OUR TOUR. CARLOS, OUR TOUR LEADER WAS VERY INFORMATIVE AND MADE US FEEL VERY RELAXED. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TOUR TO ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE BEST PARTS OF SAN FRANCISCO AT NIGHT, WHILE USING A FORM OF TRANSPORT WHICH IS TOTALLY FUN.

I am so embarrassed that my tour guide's name has escaped me, but he was amazing! This was such a cool way to see parts of San Francisco and hear its history that you probably wouldn't be able to see or hear in other tours. Learning to ride the segway was a bit unnerving at first, but it's incredibly easy! We stopped to take photos and my group was so much fun! Worthwhile experience!!!

This tour was fantastic! The crew we had was very thorough in our instruction session. I thought I could master the segway immediately being athletic in nature but it took a while to let Droid (the name of my segway) do the work. I found myself over-thinking the process. Devon (I believe that is his name) was our instructor/leader and he gave me the confidence I needed master the segway. I have never had such an exciting adventure and the nighttime ride with the full moon only added to the beauty of the night. I thought the night trip was better than the day since there is less foot traffic and car traffic going on.

An absolutely safe and wonderfully exhilarating experience was provided by the tour operators. Professionalism is their watch word. Devon showed us San Francisco as the residents see it with his special flair. This is definitely on my To Do Again list when I return to San Francisco.
